Mrs Mosca wanted to take her, she turned 21 last month.

I gave her $100 and taught her the first rule of casinos: "Understand, that right now you can keep that $100 and walk away. That is now yours."

She took her $10 free signup money and, at .50 per bet, got it up to $60 playing Mr Cashman slots. She lost it back and kept the $100. She thought it was boring, and, being a college student, $100 represents real money.

Mrs Mosca won about $75 playing slots. I bought into blackjack with $400 and cashed in 2 hours later, $400... exactly even. The deck was brutal, though. It was a real slog to get even after some horrible cards. I kept getting 14s and 15s against 10s. But I did finish even. Daughter watched the last 20 minutes, but had no idea how lucky I was being.

Thank goodness she's not interested.

I'm sure she was interested in the young men in the casino.

I'd feel better if she had kept the 60, instead
of giving it back. A woman can become hooked
on gambling at any time in her life. If a guy isn't
hooked by the time he's 18, he probably won't be.

Yeah, I think she felt obligated because Mrs wanted to share time with her. I don't know for sure, though, because I was at the tables.

This thread is ironic because I am doing almost the exact thing tonight. I go to an 18+ Indian casino. I just got home from college (I'm 21) and I'm taking my sister who just turned 18 to celebrate her birthday. I have been very big on emphasizing the "night out" as opposed to the gambling. I'll take her out to dinner at one of the restaurants, she'll probably want to go swimming in the pool, we'll hang out in the room etc. She will get a 10 dollar sign up free play and I will give her 40 bucks and explain the same thing that Mosca did to her. I don't think she is high risk for becoming hooked because she is very tight with her money, but like Bob said you never know. I think my sister will have a similar experience to you with regard to playing the machines, but I'm hoping she will enjoy the resort amenities and have a fun night.

My parents brought me to the casino for my 18th birthday and I do have to admit that I now get the gambling bug. I always play responsibly though, playing perfect BS at stakes I can afford, takings lots of breaks in my play, completely avoiding high HA games and knowing when it's time to go home. My comps have easily exceeded my expected loss.

That's why my wife refers to Blackjack as "GRIND" !

1. It would be hard for me to feel any type of excitement if gambling with someone else's money. 2. Slot machines ARE boring :) She has good taste!

Indian casinos give good comps. My wife is always
getting rooms and slot credit. If I'm going and she's
not, I'll take her card and use the Bally roulette
machine to get cash for the credits, as much as
$60 a week, and give it to my wife. Dan thinks this
is a crime and I'm scamming the casino. Oh no...

Flea: I have to disagree. I have never been rejected on a comp request by the Seminoles and find they're willing to give 1/2 your average bet worth back per hour in dining comps for bj...

So if I'm at the 5.00 table for an hour of 6:5 I could get a 2.50 meal comp. I'll have to ask.

I gess that's how it works out. Its better than I seem to get at cet or MGM for small stakes. Coconut creek has no 6/5. That's where I play.

I've heard similar murmurings about not playing bj at their joints, because apparently they don't fan Out the cards before dealing. I certainly have my suspicions, but Overall ive experienced a fair game.

Flea: what turned you off so much about their casinos?
