Its NOT Anti-Gambling, Its Tax Fairness. Alabama is taking the gloves off to keep its self casino free. Not only were there TWO recent and very expensive cases on the Bingo Corruption issue (Each went to a Jury, Each Jury said NOT GUILTY) but now Alabama is taking on the Injuns!!

Here is the gist of it. [Southern Drawl ON mode].
Now I ain't no power broker or policy planner, I'm just a simple lawyer acting on my own as a private citizen and the fact that I was in the past the close friend and strategist for the Governor is just a coincidence. And I ain't at all Anti-Gambling, I'm just in favor of fair taxes. [Southern Drawl OFF mode].

Despite all them jurors saying Not Guilty in the Bingo Cases, we are keeping up the pressure and this time we are going after them highly profitable (to the Indians) casinos. We know that the County in which the casinos are located will want that tax money and will tax the bejeezus out of the Indians if they can, so what we are going to do is get them casinos OFF THE RESERVATION and ONTO COUNTY TAX ROLLS which of course means into bankruptcy court since gambling on County Land ain't legal only on Indian Land.

So once the casinos are re-located with the stroke of a pen, we can close them up 'cause the Governor just don't want no gamblin' in Alabama, but don't think I'm Anti-Gambling, I'm just a believer in fair taxation.

“On Feb. 24, 2009, the United States Supreme Court handed down its decision in the case of Carcieri vs. Salazar, tossing out everything we thought we knew about the legal status of Poarch Creek Indian lands,” commission chairman David Stokes said at an April 13 news conference, according to the Brewton Standard. “In that decision, the Supreme Court ruled that under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the federal government has no legal authority to take land into trust for any Indian tribe that was not a recognized tribe under federal jurisdiction by 1934.”

Stokes said that the Poarch Creek Indians came along too late to have protected land, according to the Brewton Standard.

“The Poarch Band of Creek Indians received federal recognition in 1984 — 50 years too late to have lands lawfully set aside by the federal government,” Stokes said. “The Poarch Band of Creek Indians has spent the last three years actively lobbying Congress in Washington, D.C., for a so-called Carcieri-fix.”

Stokes said his job was to protect the people he represents and said that all people and businesses should have equal protection under the law.

“All who owe taxes should pay taxes. It’s only tax-fairness we are seeking.”

Sheriff dropped from sixty four million dollar verdict. June 27, 2012

Montgomery Advertiser.

Lucky Palace and 15 charities sued VictoryLand, its owner Milton McGregor and Warren after the sheriff refused to issue the casino a license to operate charitable electronic bingo across the street from VictoryLand at the Shorter exit on Interstate 85. Lucky Palace and the charities argued that the three worked together to keep a second casino out of the central Alabama county.

Alabama has the poorest people in the country. Casinos
would just make them poorer.

I don't know if the dispute is over that or not... its more a dispute of who in Alabama is going to get rich making those poor people poorer.
