Yes, I know this might not appeal to everybody.

But I think it is a pretty darn good deal, so
I will mention it.

The Southwest.com website once again has
the deal where if you sign-up for a Chase
credit card ( $ 69 annual fee ), you will
get enough points for 2 Free RT tickets.

SWA flies non-stop from where we live, which
sure makes a long trip easier.

This is an exceptionally good deal.

I signed up a year and a half ago, and only got ONE free flight. So this one is twice as good.

I signed up for a biz and a personal, got 100,000 miles and used some Marriott points to push it to 110k, which gets my wife free flights every time she flies with me on southwest, because of their companion pass perk. Very good deal.

In an ideal world, someone would have posted this
BEFORE I ALSO signed up for the Credit Card and only
got the ONE bonus flight, not 2.

Great deal. I signed up about 10 months ago- only got one free flight at sign up.

I use the card for everything possible and earn enough points for about 3 or 4 free flights per year.

Thanks for that info, DM. I'd be interested to know what benefits cards people use. I had to cancel the SW card after one year because they wanted to charge me a $59 annual fee, and I didn't spend enough to earn any substantial amount of miles.

So what I do usually is sign up for a card, take the bonus offer (whether it be airline miles, or $100 cash back), and then cancel the card before the one year period. I have no loyalty to any particular issuer and have had cards from AMEX, Chase, Capital One and BofA. So far my credit has not taken a significant ding but it can be hard to get accepted for some high credit score cards. I try to do a bunch of apps in one day to increase my chances.

I find the United (formerly Continental) Mileage Plus card to be a very good deal.

Here are a couple that I use and can
recommend.....

Hilton Honors American Express
====================

- No Annual Fee

- Cell Phone, Grocery, & Cable TV earn 6x points

- Hilton includes Hampton Inns, so we easily
have enough points to stay free there a
couple of times a year. The per night
redemption rates can be as low as 7500
points, but are usually 12K to 15K or more.

- We used free nights to break up the drive
to AND from Florida at Christmas.

- I can get referral points, so if you might
be interested in this one, pls PM me.

First National Bank of Omaha Visa
======================

- No Annual Fee

- 5 % back on ALL Gasoline purchases.

- This card is a No Brainer imho ! ! !
Especially with gas at about $ 3.67
per gallon here.

Re the SWA CHASE Card:
================

I don't know that the Southwest card is that
great for earning airline tix. It would be
nice if CHASE/SWA did something special
for the current cardholders.

BUT I do book my rental cars through the SWA
website to earn bonus points. That is independent
of the credit card, you just need to have a
SWA Freq Flier #.

We live very close to a regional airport, so
if we are planning a long drive, we pick-up
a rental car. The weekend rates are usually
very reasonable. I also offset the rental
car rate a little bit by getting better gas mileage
than my SUV.
