While I am a Christian and believe that gambling within your means is not a sin, if I was in Tebow's shoes I don't believe that I would gamble. I think there are many reasons if I was in his shoes that I don't believe he should gamble, as I don't believe gambling helps the image he is trying to project, espcially to many of his sponsors/investors and fan base. He has created this image similar to the original image Tiger Woods attempted to project as this wholesome family man. You can't project one image, as this perfect saint, and then live a different life. I am not saying that that is what Tebow is doing, but sometimes that perfect image is just to hard to live up too.
Just wondering what the forum thinks.
Woods did, for years, whoring in Las Vegas with his dad, then acting in public like he walked on water.
No, Tebow is just a man ... warts and all.
Now, here's hoping he can develop as a drop back pocket passer ...
I think it comes from resisting the image that Christian men have sometimes about not appearing to be "Mr. Goody Two Shoes"

LoL... that's so true. He was there the last time I was in town, and I wondered why there was no line to meet him.
As far as Tebow, I know the OP has a reliable source, but I wonder how true the story is. Given his high profile, I have a hard time believing that no media outlet has shone any sort of light on the subject. I know there is a pick-and-choose mentality with some celebrities, but as another person pointed out, right now, he is shown as having no vices.
Besides, 10,000 is a drop in the bucket for him. Ben Affleck was known to drop hundreds of thousands at a time at the Hard Rock. My cousin deals there, and he said that he felt Affleck really had a gambling problem. He isn't as high profile anymore and doesn't do it as often, but some of his crap sessions paid for some nice Christmases for the dealers children.
I guess he's counting on the speaking engagements he'll get after he retires/is forced out of football.
I also wonder why jesus would let him lose all that money. You'd think he'd start down 50K then end up winning it all back and an extra 1K with a miracle splitting 10s against an Ace or something.
Quote: FinsRuleHonestly, Tebow doesn't have the money to be dropping 15K in one night on blackjack. There's no guarantee he'll ever get a big contract that will keep him set for life.

I would argue otherwise. He received an 8.7 million contract guaranteed, with 11 million base and up to 33 million maximum. His performance has been pretty solid, it would be interesting to know what his actually salary is.
Assuming his base pay, the man makes 2.2 million a year. I currently make 110,000 a year, which is 20x less then Tebow. By comparison, him losing 15k in one night is similar to me losing $750 in one night. I have lost much more then that in one night.
What happens in Vegas ... was pretty tame for Tim Tebow yesterday.
The Denver Broncos quarterback was spotted strolling through the Bellagio hotel last night along with his brother and a friend ... after catching a performance of the Cirque du Soleil show, "O."
We spoke to Tebow's rep ... who told us Tim was in town for a Nike photo shoot ... and was only in Vegas for the day.
We're told Tebow didn't gamble, didn't party, and definitely didn't attend the big AVN porn convention that happens to be going on down the street.
We asked how Tebow's ribs and lungs were feeling after the beating he took at the hands of the New England Patriots last weekend -- and his rep told us, "He's doing good ... taking his time to relax and rehab. He's been rehabbing non-stop."
We asked how Tebow would be spending his first free weekend in months ... and the rep told us, "He's looking forward to going to church."
As to the blackjack story, I find it unlikely due to the image he's trying to portray, but who knows. The big tip is nice for sure, and may sway some people who wouldn't want him to be gambling in the first place.

I make no secret that I don't like Tebow, but I can respect him. Now, if the whole "faith" thing is just an image, then I not only can't I respect him, but I shoulnd't either. So if he gambles out of his own free will, on ocassion or regularly, that's his business.
What he can't do, ethically and due to NFL rules, is bet on football games. Not even in places, like Vegas, where it's legal to do so.
Quote: rebelaccountantSo I guess he must be counting???? If he's an AP then it's not against anything right? I remember hearing about a movie on here about a group of preachers who started a card counting team.
Holy Rollers: The True Story of Card Counting Christians
Looks pretty stupid to me, but I might watch it as I am currently a card counter and used to be a Christian.

Does PR do appeaerances there a lot or did you just pick that at random. I ask because last time I was there Rose was supposed to be at the sports card shop.
As long as it is not a game they are in I see no problem. If you must then just say "no sports betting" same as dealers here in PA cannot gamble in the state.
