Quote: Face from Relationship threadWe've got another card counting competition at the end of January, and the prize is another paid trip to Vegas at the end of February. I'm still banging out mid-12 second single decks, so a trip to Vegas just might be.../puts on sunglasses....in the cards
Quote: Face from Relationship threadPerhaps come February, this epic shitstorm will have given way to my typical devil's luck...
12.7 seconds took it, and back to Vegas I'm going to take another shot at the title. I don't know what to say, I'm chuffed to bits =D
I'll be sure to report back once I see what condition my condition is in. Stay tuned...

Nice! How many cards do they take out of the deck to check the result at the end? I hear about these competitions and people listing their times, but I'm never sure if it's just 1 or 2 or 3 cards removed...seems like at 12.7 seconds a couple of cards would make a huge difference. Actually on re-reading the Wizard's recap from the BJ ball last year, sounds like they removed 4 cards.
Good.
It will be good for you.

Thanks! Here we do three rounds with 1, 2 and then 3 cards removed. It's strange that 1 card adds a disproportionate amount of time to the count. 1 card I'm in 14's, 2 card 13's and 3 card 12's. In Vegas, they do one big round of all the contestants with 3 cards out, then narrow it down to the top 25% of that group for one more round of 3 cards out. Winner takes it.
Last year I qualified with an 11.6, but had some confusion with the scorekeeper (Mike Aponte, MIT) and bunged my final round score. Winner last year took it with an 11.06. I know that time is doable, and with the right flow of cards and laying it all out there, I think I can get into the 10's.

Good.

No doubt.
Now let's just hope it will be good TO me ;)
I see he's a speaker at the conference, "Perils and Pitfalls of Proprietary Games". I was just wondering what to expect.
Wiz, teliot, anyone else attending this year's WGPC?
Remember that line from Croupier... always go by your first estimate of the count, chances are you are correct.Quote: Facecard counting competition...

Yup. That fact holds true in all things.

Nevermind, I see both Wiz and teliot are presenters this year. Apparently so is Don Johnson, and he'll explain "how he did it". Lots of conferences I'm looking forward to this year =)
If you win the Vegas competition, does it go into your employment jacket like a career achievement? ;-)
Congrats Face. Bring it home this year.

And I just had the image of security standing behind somebody going, 'Sir, the count is +5. Based on your play previously, you should be up another unit.'
Good luck!

I had that same image, with Gordy Howe then turning around and saying " F*** YOU, Face. Get back in the penalty box "

You gotta know the offense if you want to play defense ;)
As far as professionalism goes, winning is little more than bragging rights. I know a lot of people amazed at my time, but I'm not getting job offers over it. Strangely, we all thought getting nicked for counting and being put in OSN or Griffin would be just such a badge of honor, proof we knew what we were doing. Turns out it would mean termination lol. Who knew? ;)
Yes, I'll be there, speaking twice. Mike is also speaking.Quote: FaceAnd I'm going back again. Now I can do a mid 10sec while singing a song, and I set a personal best of 9.3s just last month. Here's hoping thirds time's a charm...

Just got my itenerary. I see you're doing a side bet workshop on the third day, but I don't see your other engagement. Care to tell?
I was going to ask you praying types to give a shout out for some rain in the eastern Florida region, as betting on the 500 on Monday instead of missing it due to flight on Sunday would make my year. But when looking for the weather there, I saw that a car pierced the catch fence in today’s Nationwide race, sending 28 fans to the hospital.
Maybe send those well wishes that-a-way.
Quote: FaceWhelp, I leave for LV in about 14 hours and, as a single man, I haven’t begun to even ithink about packing. Near as I can figure, that puts me right on schedule ;)

Have fun, and good luck in the card-counting competition!
Quote: FaceThanks Aces. Here at the Monte Carlo now. After a double dose of Vicodin for the plane ride, then a turbo charged captain and coke upon landing, I forgot that's why I was here. I also forgot where my room was, and even the number. But I made it back, pulled out the deck, and was still putting down high nine/low ten second counts. There should be no way I lose this...
What was the winning time last year? I don't recall if you mentioned it.

Darryl Purpose, a former member of Kenny Uston's team could count down a deck perfectly in 8 seconds. That has been widely recognized as the record. Can a deck even be dealt in 8 seconds or did he slide them from one hand to the other?

I'd say probably yes, he's sliding from one hand to the other. I've seen a number of different methods, but for me, as well as most of the fastest I've seen, that is the method used.
