What do you want to see in a hotel/casino review?
I could care less about a lot of stuff people write,
but there is a list of things that I want to see.

Was the check in an ordeal.

Were the beds uncomfortable.

Was there free wifi in the room.

Was the room noisy in the mornings.

Were the towels fluffy or like they came from a concentration camp in WWII.

Were the casino waitersses attractive?

The games, who cares. Was the pit crew friendly, or pompous old jerks.

Was it smokey.

Was there always a long line at the buffet.

Were the dealers all Asian women with a chip on their shoulder.

Was valet parking fast or did you have to wait half an hour to get your car.

Did the air in your room work OK.

Was the casino always crowded at night or was it a ghost town.

What didn't you like, thats what I want to hear about. What were your complaints, what irritated you.

Thanks for the feedback. I fear my reviews are getting kind of boilerplate. I try to get a balance of personal opinion and factual stuff.

I was mostly talking about reviews I read in trip
reports on other sites. I always want to hear about
what I'm not going to like, what I am going to like
will take care of itself. Thats why movies and play
reviewers who concentrate on the weaknesses of
a production are always more popular than those
that gush about everything they see. Its a lot more
work to figure out what irritated you than what
pleased you.

>I could care less about a lot of stuff people write, but there is a list of things that I want to see.
The hotel itself caters to a wide variety of players and so a review of it must of necessity comment on matters that are not of universal concern. I don't do nightclubs but many people do want to hear about them. I may not have as good luck as the reviewer did but I like to hear about their successes anyway even if its at a game that I won't be playing.

>Was the check in an ordeal.
Was the check in exceptional in any way: ordeal? or Amazingly short? Key problems? Signage, etc.

>Were the beds uncomfortable.
Oddly enough, this is of no concern to me because I think it is simply too subjective. And perhaps I'm often too soused to notice.

>Was there free wifi in the room.
I think there should be one category of "internet access" which should discuss both in-room access and public area access issues.
Tuscany charges for in-room internet but much of the property is some sort of hot zone. If all you want is a few minutes to check up on your emails you don't need in room access but should know if you are being charged for it in some sort of resort fee.

>Was the room noisy in the mornings.
Excessive and prolonged noise is annoying at any time but I like being close to the elevator and know people chat so I often put up with it knowingly. For me its not that much of an issue if the people next door are enjoying each others company, just so long as they keep the TV down or else tune in an interesting channel.

>Were the towels fluffy or like they came from a concentration camp in WWII.
Sorry. I wouldn't notice, but think a great many people are indeed interested in such things as well as the goop and glop that is there as freebies and the spatial issues involved.

>Were the casino waitersses attractive?
Attractive and attentive. Some are gorgeous but don't bring you a drink.

>The games, who cares. Was the pit crew friendly, or pompous old jerks.
Anything that is a standout probably should be mentioned. I'm a pompous old jerk but most important is crew efficiency. Fast? Mistakes? Chatter?

>Was it smokey.
Yeah, thats important. Low ceilings and poor ventilation make even normal smoking annoying.

>Was there always a long line at the buffet.
Whatever lines were either observed or experienced probably should be mentioned but might not in any way be representative.

>Were the dealers all Asian women with a chip on their shoulder.
LOL. That is often a complaint. I don't think the casinos care.

>Was valet parking fast or did you have to wait half an hour to get your car.
Definitely of interest. Particularly the "Early Warning" for valets where there are kiosks to just swipe your card and your car will be waiting for you in ten minutes or twenty minutes or something.

>Did the air in your room work OK.
I prefer a more detailed analysis of temperature and lighting and ability to make changes, tendency for room service to undo such changes, etc. I wish room service would not open the drapes but they always do.

>Was the casino always crowded at night or was it a ghost town.
Yes, this affects many people though it varies. It might be wise to mention this in discussing Comps.

>What didn't you like, thats what I want to hear about. What were your complaints, what irritated you.[/
Definitely what irritated but also anything that was exceptional: particular enjoyments play a role too.

Most casino experiences and hotel experiences have some pluses and minuses. We just want to know in advance what to expect and there is no way a reviewer can even know if his visit was on an "average day" or not.

My biggest complaint is noise in the morning.
I don't get to bed until 3am and at 7am the
slamming of the doors starts. kerBLAM goes
a door down the hall. kerBLAM goes another
one. They can just let them close on their
own, but no, they're the only guests in the
hotel. Then the chatter and the laughing
as they walk to the elevator. Best room I
ever had in Vegas was at Binions. I asked for
a room in the back on the first floor in the
old section of the hotel. There's a set of stairs
in the casino that goes to the first floor. The
room was small, the bathroom tiny, but by
god there wasn't a peep out of anybody in the
mornings, I think I was the only guest on
the floor. And its neat in that section, like a movie
out of the 40's. Narrow hallways, everything is
trimmed in real wood, and the passageways
kind of snake around.

I like to hear about the casinos' selection of games and more specifically about the reviewer's gambling sessions. It's also interesting to read about what kind of complimentaries they recieved for their play. I enjoy Teddys and Wizards breakdowns of what different players clubs offer or if there were any promotions. Personal stories during the stay are definitely an added plus of course. I couldN'T care less about the race of the dealers, how comfortable a bed was, worn furniture or whatever. I'm fine with concentration-camp towels and an army cot.
