This question has always intrigued me about the movie
Ground Hog Day. When you consider all the things Bill
Murray's character did, how many days did he wake up
on Feb 2nd to accomplish all of it.

He screwed around for a long time doing other things
before he even learned the piano and ice sculpturing.
For a middle aged man to be proficient on the piano,
starting from scratch, would take a couple years I would
think, even if you practiced 3 hours a day.

Didn't he also somehow get medical training?

But, yeah, the piano thing takes a LOT of time.

On a related note, just how many individual days are shown in the movie?

There were several sequences of very short scenes, where the editing was to skip to the same time next day, to re-run the scene using the new knowledge.

I guess about 40.

They give hints throughout the movie that everybody
is reliving Feb 2nd, which they obviously would have
to be. Phil Conner is the only one that doesn't forget.
There are references to dejavu, and when Mcdowell's
character is introduced to the young bride to be, the
girl says 'Don't I know you from somewhere?'

Its an interesting idea. You would almost be forced to
do what he did, find something you can do thats
different everyday, like reading or learning the piano.

At least 40. They probably shot all the scenes of Phil
waking up and getting out of the bed all on the same
day, or couple of days. I'm sure Bill Murray got real
tired of getting in and out of that bed.
