So I had contemplated whether or not to include this in my recent Vegas Blog for fear that I could be labeled a bitch, but I’ll include it here anyway. I’m a pretty feisty girl and like to do ballsy things sometimes.
When I played Blackjack at the Bellagio there was some older guy who sat down at the table I was sitting at (I think there might have been one other person at the table and all the tables there were kind of slow). I like to change things up here and there by raising and lowering my bets or sometimes playing 2 hands at once. I had decided to play 2 hands at once and set a rule that when I lose both hands at the same time I’d go back to playing one hand. So now I’m playing 2 hands at once and then I went back to 1 hand. Then I decided to go back to 2 hands not long after, and then 1 hand again, back and forth. The older guy says with a grimace on his face, “Are you gonna keep doing that??” I was like, “Yep.” And he cashed in and got up and moved to another table. I thought this was funny cuz I’ve always laughed at superstitious gamblers. So, to get my kicks, I asked the dealer if she dared me to go follow him to the table he moved to and play the same way I was. She said he was a regular there and that she didn’t like him and that he’s always giving other customers a hard time so she was like, “Sure.” So I went and sat at the table and kept switching back and forth between 2 hands and 1 and he again grumbled about what I was doing and got up and left to our original table. I could tell he was talking shit about me to the new dealer there cuz he was covering the side of his face so I couldn’t see what he was saying and then the dealer looked over directly at me. I gave it several minutes and then I, you guessed it, went back over to the table he was sitting at again. He grumbled more and got up quickly and moved to another table. At that point I had got my kicks and decided to just leave him alone. I think it’s funny when people get mad cuz they think you’re messing up their cards.

Anyway, the whole point of me sharing this story was to see how many of you actually believe the superstitious notion that someone else can “mess up” your cards. I think it’s pretty silly to be superstitious on a serious level. I get superstitious at times but I always do it just to make things fun but I don’t ever take it seriously. I don’t think I could even date someone who took superstitions seriously cuz it kinda says something about them on a deeper level. I used to get upset when I’d be sitting at a table and someone was making really idiotic moves. I had asked a dealer if what another player does really affects my outcome and she said no. I have to say that since then I can play and have more fun cuz I’m not sitting there getting pissed off anymore at anyone else’s play. It’s made my playing time much more enjoyable.

Now I know some of you already are going to say, "Well if they would've hit their hand instead of standing then I wouldn't have taken their card that busted me." and other variations on this, but on the flip side couldn't you have won as well? And doesn't that sometimes happen? It's funny how negative some people can be.

Are you the kind of person who gets pissed off cuz you believe that another player can actually mess up your hands?

"it's a good thing she's hot, because she's a real B*TCH!"

Seriously, though. I don't have a problem with people changing it up from a superstition standpoint. But it does make it a little harder for me when I'm trying to count. I'm unskilled enough at it (and easily distracted by HotBlondes) that it's helpful if the table is static and I know where the cards will be.

I'm deeply contemptous of superstitions, too, and of superstitious people. But after one time when I nearly came to a fight over passing the salt shaker, I've stopped actively showing my contempt.

Your story is funny, there's no denyingthat, and it was not entirely a bad thing to follow him to a second table (it would have been better if you'd said somethign like "Let's see if this table is lucky.") But following him a second time is too much. Remember the James Bond/Goldfinger principle:

Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is a hostile act.

So, getting the guy annoyed, not on purpose, just happened. Following to a second table is funny. Following him once more is close to harassment. He might have complained to management, or he might have become really hostile. You should ask yourself whehter you want to get in trouble while on vacation.

BTW when I play VP, I'll sometimes whisper to the machine "come on royal!" or "come on four of a kind!" before pressing the draw button. I know it makes no difference. Sometimes I hit a good hand after saying it, sometimes not. Sometimes I'll hit something good without having talked to the machine, too, and sometimes not. It's just a silly ritual I tend to engage in.

I think I can say no one who comes here regularly believes you can mess up someone's hand by your play. So far I havent run into this and I am already getting sour on Blackjack

But seriously, that's just funny.

Of course, if you were a guy, I'm sure that jerk would have been more of a dick, and given you a piece of his mind - not that he could afford it...

Superstitions? I think my signature line says it all.

I think most of the members on this board know that the decisions made by others have no effect on them in the long run. Do you count, HotBlonde?

Your actions with the other player were both childish and potentially dangerous. Casinos are magnets for the dregs of society and many are mentally ill. For your own safety, don't get your kicks at someone's expense. You never know when things could go south.

People comment on my play all the time and for the most part I treat them with respect. I've found it to be +EV and it costs me nothing.

Sounds like you met my father in the casino. He's just a chatterbox of contempt for his follow gamblers.

Well I agree that what I did would fall into the childish category. I was coming from the position of wanting to do something daring that someone might want to do but wouldn't have the guts to do. I could've just left him alone but I was bored and wanting to have fun and see how he would react when I moved to his table. I saw he wasn't happy about it and therefore left him alone after observing his reactions.

I think if you are getting that mad over losing a few hands you should probably not be gambling.

It's supposed to be fun after all.

I am not superstitious and have no objections to hot blondes following me around the casino.

That's what I'm saying! If a hot blonde was following me around, blackjack would be the LEAST of my worries...
Side Note: I actually had that happen once...a cute girl followed me from one table to the other...then BACK, I asked "Why?" and she said "You're my good luck charm!" After that I sat NEXT to her...lol...

That's what I'm thinking. If a hot blond is following me around, I won't care what she does if if I'm winning or losing.
