I like taking a bus. You don't need to have had a good night sleep, stop drinking, and can gamble longer. For many a car is just more convenient. So if both are convenient and cost effective for your needs:

Q: Do you prefer taking a bus or car?

Car. I am always alone, and do not have to contend with maybe dirty, stinky, loud, obnoxious, inebriated, dangerous? passengers. Save a LOT of time, and always have a guaranteed seat. Probably waiting at the bus stops is even worse than the riding. I value my life.

When it's cost effective, CAR!

It saves so much time, allowing you to go directly to where you're going.

I priced renting a car when I come to Vegas in October for my first 2 days. Total cost, with the taxes and B/S fees, is $53.41. Subtract the price of the bus, add an approx gas usage, and you get an over/under for the bus aggrevation.

For me, the bus aggrevation is way over, so I'm getting the rental.

I voted "Car" and responded based upon my planned Vegas trip.

Then I saw this:

I live in NJ. Often, I'll take the bus - but only one specific bus.

Academy Bus has a bus that starts in NYC, makes one stop on the Parkway, then goes to two casinos. You then get a schedule of return buses, and a one way ticket good for the next FOUR DAYS. I get on at that Parkway stop.

If all I'm planning on doing in AC is casinos and stuff on the boardwalk, it's the way to go! $32 for the bus, $25 free play.So it costs $7 - that's less than gas and tolls for the remainder of hte ride. Plus, on the way back, I can sleep for the first hour - the most boring part of the trip.

s2dbaker: Where you coming from? You might want to consider it.

I was at Vegas and a one way car rental to San Diego was cheaper than a bus ticket. Now the price of gas probably through it slightly towards the bus, but for two people the car was cheaper.

I never stay in town long enough, or plan to go to places far enough away, to justify renting a car vs. just getting bus passes. Yes, you do have to put up with a few, shall I say, "inconveniences" (for example - the smell at the eastbound stop across from the Orleans), and it does restrict where you can go (have fun trying to get to M on a bus). It also helps that (a) I am not the world's greatest driver, and that's in my own car, much less a rental, and (b) I tend to "move around" during the day (and stick to the strip, where I usually just walk, at night).

Having said that, I probably will rent a car next time, in order to hit the more remote areas I haven't been to yet (e.g. M, Red Rock, Green Valley).

In my three trips I've never rented a car. First trip I relied on the monorail, next two on the bus system. It's fine if you're content to stay on or near the Strip and Downtown. You can go elsewhere, but not everywhere, and that takes longer.

Maybe ??? Its always weirdos, winos and whackos on the buses. They are slow, dirty and have arrogant drivers.

Oh, I wouldn't mind a shuttle bus for a few minutes or a casino bus since everyone is a gambler and will keep to themselves, but I don't want to ride some public bus and have to associate with people like me.

I was the "other". Explanation - Bike. The 600cc, real fast kind. The size and speed gives the mobility to scoot around faster. If traffic comes to a complete jam, you can trickle up the middle or down the side at a leisurely 10mph. Faster than walking and faster than 0mph log jams. If you're new in town and kinda lost, you can just whip it around, no bothersome 3 point turns in traffic to make. If you need to stop because your so lost you have a momentary loss of everything, you can just pull over anywhere and gain composure without backing up traffic even further. Parking's never a problem, and those guys that park on the line and take up two spaces go from being irritating to welcome, as they've basically saved you a spot. You never have to share your ride with anyone, and it takes the worst part of the trip (boring ride) and makes it a highlight. Bike's all the way.

If bike's not possible, then car and car only. I hate being stuck somewhere and hate waiting for rides. If I wanna go, then I gotta go. Buses are for city-folk and school children, of which I am neither.

Car. Last time I used a city bus there was some guy looked just released from prison who managed to get himself slugged by a guy at the stop for calling him a name he should not have. And that was just two of the assorted crazies I saw that day.

In this town, a car is a must. In New York City, a car is an albatross.

Just adding a little politeness - If I were the only passenger I would not be associating with someone ..........like you, as you say.

I bet this guy wishes he had a car today. I had my back to him. All I heard was a blood curdling scream, brakes squealing, and then the screams and wails of the witnesses.
