Not sure if this was posted already.

A South Korean man and woman were each sentenced to more than a year in prison on Monday for a card-game gambling scheme last year that defrauded a Connecticut casino of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Prosecutors said Young Su Gy, 60, and Wookyung Kim, 34, traveled to the Foxwoods Resort Casino from South Korea to play Macao-style midi-Baccarat, a game in which the house dealer handles the cards.

Several times last fall, Gy used a so-called holdout device in his sleeve with which he could switch cards in and out of a game to his advantage, prosecutors said.

Ooh, hard time in a Connecticut prison. They probably have cloth napkins and you have to dress for dinner.

It isn't easy living in a state where our poor would be other states middle class but we muddle through.

How do you use an up the sleeve hold-out device if only the dealer touches the cards?

Collusion?

And how on earth can you reap such rewards for your card switching activities unless its going on and on and everyone is napping?

Dealer looking down her dress as she leaned over to talk to the elderly player? How many times did the FloorPerson miss that? How many times did surveillance miss that? Somethings wrong here. This can't be the full story. Whatever time they do in a low security country club is not much of a deterrent anyway.

How was this finally detected? Female dealer?

In other words, nobody has any idea how much it was.

How do they come up with THAT number?

Yeah, you'll get to rub elbows with the likes of Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel. The poor guy's lost without his ascot.

Are minorities still deported on sight? I heard gas is always $6 a gallon to keep out the riff-raff.

Bob,
not quite a wise and thoughtful two-cent reply.
You're showing more your colors than Connecticut's colors: Connecticut is a very liberal, democratic, and politically-correct state. A bit cash-rich in comparison to most states, and with nothing to apologize for. Plus they're the home to Foxwoods and Mohegansun.

Besides, cheat a casino and get issued an orange jump suit.

I'm sure they treat the prisoners soft up there. They could use a Sheriff Joe. He knows how to make people hate jail.

Sigh.. I hate when I have to explain the obvious. IT A JOKE! Its very un-PC to say things like that, to suggest a state doesn't allow minorities. Connecticut's rep is its all David Letterman's and Kennedy clones and the place where the rich people in NY have their summer homes. I live in MI and the joke here is, if you absolutely have to go to Detroit, drive a car that you wouldn't mind seeing stolen, or don't go.

I've seen a lot of this, but I must say the "house dealer" part also gets me. I don't know how they'd make the switch if casino personnel are the ones handling the cards.

I'm ignorant of the "midi" version of Bac, but I do recall seeing a scam that was similar. Every player was issued a 2-card hand, and this guy simply cupped his hand over the cards and brought it to his lap. I almost think it was during the Bac portion of the scams; perhaps Midi is dealt in this fashion? I always thought all forms of Bac were just 2 hands against each other.

Hold outs are gaining in popularity again. It seems crazy that some contraption made in the 1890's could hold a candle to todays tech, but ever ingenious is the thief. Most people think Poker when they hear hold out, or at least some sort of card game, but they've even been used to switch in loaded dice, albeit rarely. And probably the best one of all was used by a dealer to nab chips out of the float. If people weren't driven by greed, and would only steal from winning tables, a chip float hold out could work indefinately.

Most people outside of the Northeast ask me where Connecticut is. They become quite interested to find out it is a small island off the coast of Florida. They are even more amazed to find out tobacco is our main cash crop. The second part is true!

Someone mentioned Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Uh no thanks. AZ can keep him and his less than stellar performance. Odd how the people in AZ who can read reelect him since Violent Crime in AZ overall declined 12% but in Maricopa County it's up 58% since 2002 according to the AZ dept of Public Safety. But with all the criminal investigations into Sheriff Joe about missing money I hope he looks good in a pink jump suit. Maybe he and Munnell can share a cell.

But I have heard nothing overly nice about CT Prisons. I live next to a women Fed Prison. They are not as hot as I had hoped.

People love or hate Joe. I have to love a guy who tells prisoners they will stay in tents since if it is good enough for our soldiers it is good enough for them. He flat out says jail and prison are to punish-not to rehabilitate and deterence is secondary. Crime up in Maricopa County? Probably as any place with such growth will have that. Joe has lately told the feds if they will not pick up illegal aliens he will. He simply does his job. I slept better knowing he was sheriff there and wanted him to run for govenor at the time.
