The Current Blackjack Newsletter specifically says the Hard Rock in Vegas uses it. Contrary to popular myth, it isn't like the movie Minority Report, where everybody is scanned as they walk through the door. They would have to suspect you were up to something before they would run your face profile through it.

Thats a totally different story than they tell on their website. They say the Stratosphere uses it and save 500K a year because it spots bad guys as soon as they walk in the casino. What really happens is, they suspect you, look up your pic on Biometrica and Griffin, then toss you out. I read an interview done in 2002 with a Strip surveillance big wig and he claimed they were using it THEN, which was total bull. Its a ploy to scare advantage players and nobody believes they have the technology to tell a Chinaman from an Italian, let alone pick out one middle aged White guy from a crowd and ID him.

Facial recognition programs isolate facial images, rotate them to a standard position, compare the face to twelve reference faces generating a number for how well the faces compare and then generate yet another number which is the product of the individual twelve comparisons. Searches are based on that final number.
Its not a speedy process and its not at all some sort of instantaneous awareness.

Many camera images are of poor quality and many cameras simply have poor focus, particularly for subjects in motion. Certain attention grabbing displays often induce males to look in a certain direction which helps to normalize the views amongst the images, but even getting a computer to know where a person's head is located is not always that easy to do.
