I have been watching as Atlantic City is dying a slow death. Unwilling to try new ideas, tightening of playing conditions and comps make it inevitable that AC will no longer be a destination of choice. It has been interesting to see how the politicians are now pushing for online gambling and sports betting. They may have a chance with the online gambling but there are to many obstacles in place for sports betting. Its a shame if it wasn't for Bill Bradley you would be able to place a bet in N.J.

May I have some of the readers opinions?

As a long time visitor to AC I believe that it began dying after the n'th casino was built. If they had stopped two casinos short of where they are they might have had a chance.

I stayed in the Hilton last month - Thursday night - on Friday morning there was hardly anyone in the place. Went over to Harrah's at the marina for the next two nights and it wasn't too bad but that was Friday and Saturday night. We went down to Bally's on Saturday and the place was dead as a doornail.

I don't think sports betting would save them there just aren't that many sports bettors around. Once the PA joints opened most of the AC crowd stayed home. Now that they have tables in PA and Delaware I doubt AC will ever recover. Maryland also has one slots parlor operating and will be adding two more in the next year and it wouldn't surprise me if they added table games before the end of next year. Since I live only a few minutes (literally) from one of the venues if they offer tables the only reason I would go to AC would be for the ocean and I generally make about 8 trips a year along with two or three to Vegas.

They are trying to get more involvement with poker tournaments, black jack tournaments and the like. But on a recent trip through Wild Wild West I couldn't help but notice that they are down to one craps table. I don't know what the Claridge is doing but I've been over there a couple of times and didn't see anyone except baca players.

You make some good points. I am curious about something, thou. Maybe you or our readers can comment. If there are not a lot of sports bettors why are the professional sports leagues deathly afraid of sports betting expansion?

Well, from the "(WAY) Too Little, (WAY) Too Late" department...

They are finally expanding the Parkway.
