I don't see that anyone else has mentioned this...

My wife and I were at the Plaza yesterday on a coupon-book run. (The 2011 ACG) I went to sign up for the player's club, but it was unmanned. One of the waitresses had to find a slot tech to staff the desk. She signed me up, and gave me the freeplay for the machines. But she said I couldn't use the table-game match play coupon because the table games were closed. It was 4:30pm on a Thursday. She didn't say, "Come back later tonight" or "Come back on Saturday." She just invited us to use the other matchplay coupon for the Vegas Club.

We had a wonderful meal (as always) at Firefly while watching the Fremont St. Experience. I felt kind of bad for using the slot coupon and a coupon for Firefly. We tipped well, as the waiter will probably soon be unemployed.

As we were leaving, we heard an overhead announcement inviting everybody across the street to a full selection of table games at the Vegas Club.

Are they really still working on renovating the hotel? How could they possibly bounce back from this?

Did they move some of the table games from the Plaza to the Vegas Club? I don't recall the Vegas Club as having a "full selection" of games, but the Plaza did when I was in town in October.

According to the Current Blackjack Newsletter, they are temporarily removed while they are remodeling.

Yes, the Plaza is still being remodeled, Some of the dealer went over to the Vegas Club, as its their sister casino! They didn't put in any more table games at the Vegas Club, what you see is what they had before they did the move. They didn't take all their dealers over to the Vegas Club, just a few went over there!

They kept all their engineers working to help with the remodeled, but the rest of the staff was laid off!

The Firefly is not owned by the casino, and does have a walk in clientele, so they might make it through the renovation!

They also have a new manager for the casino, that started before they shut the casino table games down, and the hotel part of the casino!

Can they bounce back, well that depends on the management, and what kind of customer service they have when they reopen?
If they reopen and are just one more casino that sweats they money, they might have a hard time of making it! There is nothing like coming to Vegas, only to be run off from a table game that you like to play, just because you are getting lucky, and winning!

Everybody has casinos in their backyards now with casino in just about all the states, why come to Vegas, if you are being treated like you are doing something wrong if you are winning!
Corporate greed is killing this city, high food prices, high entertainment cost, and yes let's not forget the gauntlet you have to walk every time you walk down the strip with the porn slappers shoving porn cards in your face with every step you take!

Great place to take your wife or family, these people are invading my space when they shove one of these cards in my face!

Only time will tell as to how they do when they reopen, I wish them the best of luck in these tough times when they do reopen!

I have been saying for years that it seems silly to operate two pits that are doing such small business. It would make sense to move some of the electronic table games from Las Vegas Club over to the Plaza.

One would logically think you would move some of the table games from Plaza to LVC.

This table shows what the Gaming Commission believes is in the casinos as of 30 September 2010
GAME Plaza LV Club
TWENTY ONE 11 13
CRAPS 2 2
ROULETTE 2 2
3-CARD POKER 1 1
PAI GOW POKER 1 1
WHEEL OF FORTUNE 1
LET IT RIDE 1
POKER 4
KENO 1
BINGO 1
SLOTS 700 600

The licenses at the Plaza for the Rat Pack is Back, the Firefly, the Seattle's Best Coffee, the McDonald's, the Noble's Pizza, the Subway are still in place, so I assume they won't close the building down. The Greyhound bus station may move to the old Downtown Transportation Center.

Las Vegas Club has a small unused poker room as well. I don't know if they will move poker from the Plaza.

The Downtown Las Vegas group for the last several years had
11 casinos over $12 million in gaming revenue
5 casinos from $1 to $12 million in gaming revenue (Western, La Bayou, Mermaids, Gold Spike, Golden Gate).

In September the stats changed to:
10 casinos over $12 million in gaming revenue
6 casinos from $1 to $12 million in gaming revenue

So either the Plaza or the Las Vegas Club dropped to under $12 million per year in gaming revenue. I assume that it is the Plaza.

Last time I was at the Plaza/VC their dealers were beyond break-in. Like, literally off the boat from Guangzhou or something. It was weird. Not sure why anyone would want to play there when they give such a shaft to their table game quality.

Last time I played at the Plaza, the dealer was fast-spinning. As soon as she removed the dolly, she spun the ball and waved her hand about 20sec later. There was hardly any time to get any bets down. I never went back.

Actually, I tried and she ignored me. Its an old trick, it keeps the serious players away when you're sweating the money.

Sadly the Plaza used to be a fun place to play. Even up to a few years ago. They had live bands. Not the best but they were good.
Bartenders were good and a great chat. Best was watching the Ho's and Johns interact.
