Even if it wasn't spelled out who would cover the costs beyond the comped amount, I think common decency would be to chip in or split the amount that people consumed beyond the comped amount. This wasn't a business transaction: it's a dinner with friends. You were kind enough to invite people to enjoy a dinner with the understanding that part of it was free, but I don't think anyone could or should assume that ALL of it was free. Did no one think to ask how much the total cost was going over the comp amount?
Anyone remember the Father Guido Sarducci routine about how he had acquired the check from the Last Supper, and it showed someone ordered a drink yet they split the check 13 ways?
I mean, their "side" is that of most women. If you ask them out, then you should pay for everything because after all you asked and they're gracing you with their company. When it comes to friends, I think that's a really shitty attitude for them to take towards you, but that's just my opinion.
Oh well, no more comps will ever be spent on them, I hope.
$300 comp. 6 people. $50 per.
5 of them split tax and tip.
If they had an expectation that it was totally free and are balking at paying (or can’t pay) anything…suck it up and treat them. Probably wouldn’t offer again, though.
Good friends get the comp, pay any overage or any related fees, leave the tip, buy drinks, drive you home and kick you over some cash and good information as they drop you off.Quote: RomesNo, your friends aren't very good friends.

(snip!)Quote: RiverjordanThey argued they felt I should pay all of the tax and tip since I invited them and these were my Comps. I argued common courtesy would be to pay a fair share of the tax and tip. My Friends were disgusted and thought I was being unreasonable and refused to chip in for tax and tip.

Among Your Friends, apparently yes.
Among other groups of friends, I don't know. Maybe?
I know that when my friends were dining off my comps, I covered the gratuities, but didn't fight if they wanted to kick me a few bucks to defray their share.
I earned the comp, I used the comp to entertain my guests, I paid the tip.
I did not pay the tip if they were using my room comp and I was not staying. I checked in and tossed them the key, asked them not to surprise me with room charges.
Apparently I need more good friends like AxelWolf.

I think everyone could use a good friend like Axel. Of all the people I met in Vegas, he was by far the most helpful and friendliest.
Quote: OnceDearHi RiverJordon, Welcome to the forum.Quote: RiverjordanSo, I had $300 in Comps and I invited some Friends to use my Comps up at a Restaurant. We all had a good time until the bill came to about $386 with tax and tip. My Friends purposely didn't bring any money and just assumed I would pay the tax and tip for everyone. I was upset and told them I thought everyone should split the tax and tip since Comps do not cover tax and tip.

My Friends were disgusted and thought I was being unreasonable and refused to chip in for tax and tip. I paid the roughly $86 in tax and tip as it was clear none of my Friends would pay the tax and tip. And the Waiter was getting anxious. Instead of thanking me for using my Comps with them, and paying the tax and tip myself, they are all upset with me for even asking them to chip in for tax and tip. Was I in the wrong here?

Was this comp'ed meal at a venue in Vegas, Miami, somewhere else? Serious question!
$86 in tax and tip? So how many friends were there. Are they ex-friends now?
Does ANYBODY leave home without cash or a credit card?
I'm not taking this post seriously. I'm surprised that so many did.

It was a Restaurant in Miami. I had 5 Friends. The bill was $300, so the tax and tip was roughly $86. We are all still good friends. They claimed they didn't bring any money because they assumed I was paying for everything. They did pay me all of their portions.

Why double post it on WoV's sister site, which is not gambling focused?
You're new here, so you get a bye.
It was a plain bad idea for me to post this thread at DT.
;)
I wonder who will be first to get suspended for insulting the new member from Miami by accusing him/her of being a certain ex member not of good standing.Quote: ams288Your friends sound like some real “Karens” to me…

We already had some edgy insinuations.
I ADVISE to keep such accusations out of thread and direct them to Wizard for his deliberation.

Quote: StarburgerI was invited to dinner with a casino buddy who had comps but he made it clear beforehand that tips and taxes were not included in the comps and I was fine with that and I paid my share of the tax and tip. So you definitely should have made it clear beforehand that tax and tip were not included in the comps.

River Jordan is to Starburger as Clark Kent is to Superman. This has been known for years.
