During my recent trip to California, I was denied access to a casino whom I shall not name here. I have a very unpleasant conversation with the staff despite my best efforts to be polite, reasonable, and explain my case. Ultimately, I had no other choice but to turn around and walk away, but the experience was humiliating. Iím a mature woman in my early 50s and Iíve been going to casinos since I turned 18.

COVID19 forced me to transition to online gambling temporarily, but thatís just not it. Nothing can replace the look and feel of a genuine casino floor, which is why I was eager to go back to one. However, I find myself thinking about an underlying problem: Iím fully vaccinated and revaccinated against COVID and I take tests before and after every trip. Iím conscientious about my health, so why are people like me still denied entry into casinos??

To get one thing out of the way right now: Iím not an anti-vaxxer, nor do I have anything in common with them. I understand the concerns of the many facing this pandemic, and I follow all of the rules. But the damn mask is so restrictive that I get the feeling Iíll suffocate if I wear it for more than 5 minutes. After my unpleasant experience, I came across this article: https://theavtimes.com/2021/02/12/5-things-to-know-about-the-face-mask-policy-in-californian-casinos/ .

Apparently, this is a thing now in all casinos, which doesnít make sense to me. People go there with money in their pockets to spend it on casino games. Forcing people like me to wear masks only costs them valuable business, which is much needed after the year we all experienced. It just doesnít make sense!

It's not just casinos. It's the whole state. I'm not sure why you would target the casinos or act surprised when it's a statewide requirement. Have you seen California's
covid numbers in the past fortnight? I'd worry less about masks and try and convince my neighbors to get vaccinated. That seems the best way to put covid and masks behind us in the not-too-distant future.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

A mask is at most mildly restrictive; you knew the requirement yet for some reason hoped it wouldn't apply to you.

Oops.

As often happens in a casino you lost that bet.

Get one of those $50 blood oxygen meters for your finger from Rite-Aid and see how low it goes when you wear a mask. If it goes below 90%, you may have a medical exemption claim. All these people who already had COVID-19 and still have a hard time breathing might qualify. Maybe dine outdoors where it's not so stuffy.

Hey at least you donít live between San Francisco and San Jose, you only have to indoors. Every picture Iíve seen of my niece at swimming or soccer (soccer is parent/child so they donít even really mix) everyone is wearing a mask, outside.

I hate the mask mandate, but the mandate is the mandate. The exception to remove to smoke, I find beyond ridiculousÖbut thatís typical.

The Governor of Nevada has set a standard to remove the mandate that I do not believe is even remotely reachable thru 2022.

Current case rate in Las Vegas is 129. It must get below 50 for 2 straight weeks. No chance.

It was 131 seven weeks ago. That translates to YEARS with a mask mandate based on gaining a couple points every few weeks.

You have state and Federal laws and mandates. Some are controversial. Some may even be political.

I reckon the mask/anti-mask, vax/anti-vax topic is controversial enough for me to close this thread under rule 19.
Feel free to discuss this passionately at other forums, such as http://diversitytomorrow.com

Other moderators or Wizard may re-open this thread, and if they do, I'll recuse myself from moderating it and wish them luck.
