This Friday night, we will have an hours-long near-total eclipse of the moon. It will be almost six hundred years until the next eclipse of such a duration. It should be visible throughout most of North America, weather conditions permitting.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

(I remember hearing this joke before the August 16, 1989 lunar eclipse.)
