Once these casinos open back up you're gonna see some sweet deals being offered to all the whales in the world... Management's gonna need a few big wins to get back in the black!

The whales already get “sweet deals”.

At some point don't they also leave themselves vulnerable to a lawsuit

Let's say every casino Nationwide closes but one or two and then people get sick and can trace the infection to a worker at that property. Can't an argument be made they refused government orders to shut and spread the infection

Casinos are always susceptible to claims against them. I would think shutting down is self protection also

Only if there was an actual order to shutdown. So far most NV casinos that shutdown did so voluntarily. As far as I can tell there are no state or local level shutdown orders anywhere in NV.

Many other states such as NJ have already ordered physical casinos to be shut down. I would guess it would only be a matter of time for NV to follow suite.

My guess would be, casinos would already be losing money if they are operating with minimal guests, so shutdowns may actually be in their best interest until this subsides.

Definitely. They can cut staff just so much....but the cost to operate might simply not be worth it.

Well Manitoba government just told the casinos to close tonight at midnight.

The timing of these things is so silly. Close your casino at midnight! Don't wait for a quieter time! Or a more sober time. Social responsibility be damned! Forcibly send a fleet of half-drunk ploppies onto the streets in the name of public health!

Or here, close your bar at 5pm on St Patrick's day. You can get your lunch revenue, but forget about the dinner crowd or revelers. Never mind that we've known about this issue for weeks, you've ordered supplies for a big night because of lack of other direction, and now you'll lose that money in addition to the costs of closure; it's just not permissible to stay open one more night.

The situation evolved SO FAST, so ferocious, so unknown....that truth be told, no one has a darn clue what is the right or proper or acceptable way to proceed. There was no playbook for this event. This is akin to a nuclear bomb going off in a large city and the survivors have no guidance, no path, no what to do, no where to go.

This virus has become the very definition of flying blind. There are 15 different possible methods advocated for every 1 enforced.

Unprecedented times.

China seems to be improving. The problem is they were ground zero and I suspect they concealed it for too long from the rest of the world in the hopes they could contain it themselves. They couldn't.

If I was leading a country that wasn't having a big issue right now...damn right I would lock it down to incoming anything.

From what I understand many medical supplies and associated stuff come from China

Punish them and we could wind up in worse straits

I don't think there is any easy or right answer, frankly.

The mandated closures here in Vegas are ridiculous....not from a standpoint of right or wrong on the containment side, but from inconsistency.

Close down senior centers...but leave Dotty's open?

Close down schools....but leave certain casinos open.

Those being pushed out of MGM today are heading over to Ballys or Caesars. Where is the logic on the containment side? It's as if MGM is saying we will do our part....but others not? Might as well leave it all open then.
