Whether it's all bigly over-hyped or a true pandemic, going to a casino today doesn't seem to make much sense. Although seeing people and the way most of them play, it never did. So Mr. and Mrs. Martingale will, for sure, still be there.

What the open casinos should at least do is ban smoking and any other air transmitted habits.

Staffing fewer tables and closing some hotels sounds like a wise business move in terms of bean counting. Not so much for public health.Quote: racquet... Foxwoods said that table games in one section would remain open. That seems silly: crowd all the table game players still there onto a smaller number of open tables?

How the heck can they even do something like that? A person enters only if someone else leaves?
This has gotten crazy.
I'm leaning that we take the next 2 weeks and shut down every non essential business. Declare martial law. A state by state approach is nonsensical. Should be a consistent approach for all 50 states.

Maryland governor issues emergency order to close all casinos, racetracks
From CNN's Liz Turrell
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan issued an emergency order to close all Maryland casinos, racetracks and simulcast betting facilities to the general public indefinitely today.
"This situation continues to evolve and will escalate rapidly and dramatically….these are unprecedented actions in an extraordinary situation, but they could be the difference in saving lives and keeping people safe," Hogan said.
The order does not apply hotels adjacent to the casinos.
The following properties are affected by the governor’s emergency order, which takes effect at midnight on March 16 and will remain in effect until the state of emergency has been terminated or until superseded by other orders:
MGM National Harbor
Live! Casino & Hotel
Horseshoe Casino Baltimore
Hollywood Casino Perryville
Ocean Downs Casino
Rocky Gap Casino Resort
Laurel Park
Pimlico Race Course
Timonium Race Course
Fair Hill Races
Rosecroft Raceway
Ocean Downs
All simulcast betting facilities in the state

The Mississippi casinos remain open and fully operational, but some shows are cancelled. MS Gaming was quoted as wanting to keep their current position "fluid" as the situation continues to develop. We'll see if this is a wise business move or not.

Its all about leadership.
I'm waiting for martial law to be declared so that you can't even leave your house without the government's permission.
On the good side, it's caused a fire sale on Wall Street.
Also, I'm making a lot of money by selling my toilet paper at gouge prices on Craig's list.
And why in the hell are they still letting gamblers still smoke and vape in the casinos!!!

I live in Australia and people were paying over $50,000 on ebay for some toilet paper, you can still get over $5,100 (going by the current bids, with 2 plus days to go).

Maybe to you, but not to those who are immunocompromised or have underlying health issues. This is about protecting those people.
So stay home, self-isolate, and drink yourself silly.

Good Luck, here in PA the State Stores (only place in PA you can buy wine and booze) are having lines out the door.

I haven't heard that. There was a myth about the Bellagio and Mirage closing.
The governor just closed Nevada schools for three weeks. I think it would take the federal government to shutter the casinos here, although I could see some twin-properties like Venetian/Palazzo shutting one of them and transferring room reservations at the closed one.

I would think that the Gaming Control Board would be the logical one to make the call. Do they have any jurisdiction over the hotel parts? Forget for the minute that without the hotel the casino does not need to be there....

What does this mean? Aren't there any bars in Pennsylvania?
Quote: bobbartopWhat does this mean? Aren't there any bars in Pennsylvania?
Of course there are. But if you want to buy a bottle you have to go to a "STATE STORE" (modern called "Wine and Spirit") as PA does not allow private liquor stores. PA is the largest wholesale buyer of booze in the USA. Bars must buy from the State Stores, presumable on some sort of commercial account.

Yep, it’s official.

I’m assuming they realized the problem. If you are fighting this virus...it has to be consistent.
Reckless, it shows where their priority is.Quote: Zcore13Business as usual at the largest casino in Az. Sold out outdoor concert tonight (2,854 people) for John Fogerty. No Az casinos have closed yet. Stores have trimmed hours to restock and clean but no closures. Movie theaters open but only selling 50% of seats to keep distance between customers. The only thing closed are schools through the end of the month.

The problem is, there's only been 10 positive tests in Az. There's no social pressure yet. It might get there though. Medieval Times Restaurant/Show just notified of their closure. That's the biggest thing so far and right across the street from my Casino. Once that starts happening, others feel obligated to go along. That could be the first of things to come this next few days.

I wonder if the virus can live in 120 degrees in the shade. That was the temp when I left Glendale.
That might have something to do with smokers lungs not being as strong as a normal person's. I'm going to have believe that smokers have a higher probability of dying from the virusQuote: onenickelmiracleI don't think there's any connection between smoking and danger to non-smokers. It probably dangerous to The Smokers themselves when they're touching their cigarette and it goes in the mouth. Factors being a smoker if I'm out and I want to smoke are very low. I don't think staying inside going to work for me but being in public isn't working either. As long as everyone doesn't get sick at once that's what people need. All right now I'm at right now. I've had a cough for about 5 or 6 days but nothing else really.
(And in general, as well). Do smokers have a better chance to get it, that I have no idea.

I knew Fogerty was doing a tour, he's stopping in California too. So when you said this, I had to look it up. I got confused by "Talking Stick Resort". I thought, wtf is that? I figured it out. Never been there. When I left Arizona, I don't think there was any casino action. I know The Fort was there, but maybe just bingo. I know The Fort got live poker not long after I left. I went there in '88 when all the "social gambling" (loophole) started poping up in all the bars. Tommy's Full House, I think, started it all. If you weren't there then, I'm sure you must have heard plenty of stories. Phoenix was all the way live between '88 -'90. It was truly The Wild West. Some of the most fun I ever had in my life. Of course, I was 30-something, everything was fun when you're 30-something.
