I'm just going to go ahead and say what many other AP's and knowable gamblers are thinking. As far as Gambling With An Edge goes, this episode was kind of embarrassing to everyone. I was not sure if I should grimace, laugh or feel bad. I think I did all of the above.
Many red flags regarding her AP career, if that's the path she continues to follow. I hope Bob and Richard did everything they could in private to set her on the right path.
There were a few interesting things Bob and Richard had to say, especially, the story about the BP not taking directions because he thought he knew better.
what are you saying?
what does this persons ethnicity have to do with anything?
nobody is going to dispute that there are untrustworthy gamblers or wannabee APs of every ethnicity
what are you really saying with that title?
your choice of this for a title seems to me to be almost bizarre - it seems to me you are suggesting that persons with this ethnicity are not trustworthy
to summarize: 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐀 𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐋𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐄
it makes me wonder what kind of things are roaming around in your mind
again, while most of the time I regard your posts as valuable, sometimes you really strike out - big time

The title was quite appropriate. And not offensive at all.
I think the politically correct term is blasian tho?
that makes it a whole different thing
it's not the first time I've been wrong about something
to Axel: sorry dude
Quote: mcallister3200your self righteous self.
yes, I'm self righteous
no apologies for that
I value people who try to be righteous more than those who don't give a sh.. about being righteous
merriam webster definition of righteous:
"(of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous"
It's all good dude, I've made a mistake (once).Quote: lilredroosterokay, my bad - I didn't realize she was calling herself that

Quote: PokerGrinderIs there somewhere I can start listening to every episode they’ve had? I’ve only listened to a few here and there.
Would you like one of these devices as well?
Yeah sure, I get it, as long as you play more stuff with an advantage than you do with the disadvantage you should come out in a long run, but it it almost seemed as if it was a foreign concept to her.
Quote: AxelWolfShe seemed surprised when they told her she shouldn't be playing - EV stuff. That's like the second rule of being an advantage player.

While that is true, I work and then play crap at a casino. If you are working as an AP there isnt anything wrong with playing crap for fun.as long as you are separating it and it isnt everytime you go
I agree, I myself have done my fair share of -EV gambling. It kind of sounded to me as if she enjoyed it much more than she should. It didn't seem as if it was something to where she was just killing a little time here in there. And, at such an early stage in her "AP" career, that's usually not a good sign, oftentimes it usually only progresses as time goes by.Quote: GWAEWhile that is true, I work and then play crap at a casino. Yes that's the feeling that I got too. Like she was playing bj and couldn't walk by carnival game without stopping with nonadvantage. Probably why her backing stopped.
I dont think many bj aps use cards for comps and drawings but I could be wrong there.
there was a part in there where they were talking about her traveling with a fellow blackjack player / mentor.Quote: GWAEYes that's the feeling that I got too. Like she was playing bj and couldn't walk by carnival game without stopping with nonadvantage. Probably why her backing stopped.

Bob said, he was a cute guy or something like that. Black Asian said some complimentary things about this fellow. Richard had said well, he's married.
I was thinking, not for long, if she listens to this.
I don't really care, but I just want to understand, is saying black Asian racist or something? It's not like I said, Q. what do you call black Asian? A. a car thief who can't drive. I guess that would be considered a racist joke, therefore an inappropriate title.Quote: beachbumbabsI retitled the thread to make the situation clear.

funny you mention this. We were somewhere and we were talking to this black gentleman with an irish accent. When we left I asked wife, we say african american here, is he african irish? how does that work?

It was an easy way to avoid any further misunderstandings about what the title meant. The edit was for people scanning the thread list or just joining the discussion. It took a dozen posts for everyone to understand it WASN'T a racist title and provocation, but what the guest called herself, on an episode of a gambling podcast.

Black Irish are people who tend to have dark black hair, blue or green eyes, fair skin. (An unusual combination, think it's a particular tribe from centuries ago with those dominant genetic traits)(note: blue eyes are generally recessive, I acknowledge, but this grouping apparently lacked eye pigmentation), as opposed to the rest of the UK, including many Irish who tended to brown hair, blue eyes, paler skin. It's just descriptive, but was at one point used as a derisive epithet, when those Irish were considered an underclass.
I'm sure there's a useful etymology if you Google it, but that's the general reference.

I know a white guy from South Africa who gets a big kick out of saying he's African American.
Your guy was just a black guy from Ireland.
The way I see it, African American is just a more specific term. Soul food. Blues. The word "janky." These are largely African American creations. Reggae is not.

So the term african american is just a US term because we like to label everything? In other parts of the world they are just black? How about canada, since they are north america are they African American? We need PG to weigh in on the term.
Are you saying if she didnt call herself Black Asian, but if I used the words Black Asian to describe her, that would be racists?Quote: beachbumbabsIt was an easy way to avoid any further misunderstandings about what the title meant. If a black Asian calls me a white american or whatever, would that be racist?

The problem is inflection of voice.
People reading on internet forums hear the inflection in the heads (even though it may be incorrect)
"There goes a Jew"
Is it an insult if the person is Jewish? Usually it is because of the inflection in the voice, the lilt of disdain that can be detected.
So when putting things in writing you have to be cautious about these terms

People in France go out of their way for American blacks but can't stand their native blacks or African black immigrants.

No. I'm saying that the title, in isolation, was questionable in a public forum, but in context was informative and specific. So I put it in context. Somebody googled those words, WoV thread will probably come up, and appending GWAE episode should keep it clear.
had you just said all that in the first place.Quote: beachbumbabsNo. I'm saying that the title, in isolation, was questionable in a public forum, but in context was informative and specific.
