Posting here to confirm that you have it correct: the wife and I will be there, arriving mid-day on Thursday 5/9 and departing mid-day on Tuesday 5/14.
As for rdw4potus, the first time I met him (8 years ago) I asked, "Who is rdw?"
Any of you who attend and don't know the answer to that, you can ask him yourself. And if he skips out, you can ask me.
Quote: DRichI have every intention of participating the night of the dinner. I doubt that I will partake in other activities unless someone wants to take out a big life insurance policy on me for my wife and watch me die after about sixty steps on the hike.
You know there are some pushing just this as investments for a percentage of the death benefit.
Then they pool policies and sell shares to even out the volatility creating a (on paper) steady income return.
My family is ready to go. Its just me now to convince.
I have a full 7 day a week schedule beginning right after those dates and Im not sure I want an exhausting trip to precede that or stay home and chill a bit
First post in this thread has been updated (a lot!) carrying over info from previous thread. First post will continue to be updated every day or two, and thread is sticky'd to top of subforum until event.
Please post any updates of your plans below, and I will edit them into the first post. Thanks!
Quote: beachbumbabsNote to GWAE. That's 20, plus I would guess 6-10 more to come. As a previous organizer, I would suggest you try to set up a party room or other restaurant reservation now, then we can finalize a head count with them about a week before or whatever they need.
Thanks BBB for making the first post so organized.
We are a yes to escape room.
What is poker run?
ETA how did you get that list. I swear I went through the other thread and didn't see some of these names.
A lot of people are planning mob museum. Should we find a place in downtown? Strip? Or off strip?
I’m in for the mob museum, ideally on Saturday afternoon? I’m in for the escape room if it’s on Friday? Hike, sorry Mike but hell no lol. Poker run? Do you mean poker game after dinner on Saturday? If so then yes to that too!
Thats something they might like
let's vote on area for the Saturday night dinner. Also let's discuss type of restaurant. After we have that figured out then We can discuss venue.
We can keep this to PM. Please PM your choice to me.
1. Downtown
2. Strip
3. Off strip
1. Burger type place
2. Higher end place like steak house
3. Cafe type place
4. Italian
5. Mexican
6. other, please suggest
Quote: darkozIf I come would my grandkids be able to do the escape room?

Probably not. They are 40 or 50 dollars and you can only get 10 people or so. I think we had 7 which included wizard and some other forum regulars and we failed miserably. Did you say they are 10? Cant imagine a 10 year old figuring it out

8 and 13
I would normally agree with you except my kids know how to operate and do so much I cant figure out these days at least technology wise
My 13 year old just toured South Korea and learned a good chunk of the language- enough to correspond somewhat rudimentarily so who knows

There are no age restrictions for most. Other than under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Escape rooms seem to work best in groups of 5-8 people. There are alot of multi room escape facilities in Vegas. Sounds like DarkOx might have enough people in his group to get their own room. If not, it sounds like their could possibly be enough people for multi rooms anyhow.
Maybe they'll even have some multi-card puzzles.😀

Multi-carding puzzles?
Hell, the whole family will ace that one
Server asks if I wish to use my points on card
I reply no I dont have enough
My 6 year old replies, "But Grandpa, you have dozens of cards. Why dont you use one of the ones those people give you?"
I think my face turned redder than the strawberries on my plate. (Luckily the server didnt hear him. His voice was still low enough but the family heard him all too clearly)
EDIT: maybe I should delete this post. I dont want to be accused of hijacking. Maxpen just got me reminiscing
Dont comment directly anyone please
EDIT EDIT: If a mod says delete it I will

13 might be ok, definitely not the 8. I dont care how smart the 8 year old is there is no way they would be ok on an escape room. I do know there is a lot of frustration and a lot of cursing.

You're starting to scare me now.
I will research how they work and make an informed parental decision
For that matter my daughter is the real parent so she will have to decide for herself
I have an interesting excuse. I was successful at winning a part (as an actor) in a theater production that has shows scheduled for the March 11/12 weekend. So, I will be on stage! I hope someone will raise a glass to me at the dinner, even if you just mutter (or cuss me) under your breath. And, before I go on stage those nights, I'll wish you all good luck at the tables (or slots) .

they are really hard. The last one the very first clue was you had to look through something and see where there were moved items. LIke there was a missing item on a shelf. If it was in position 1 then in another part of the room the book on shelf one had to be pushed in. The thing is you dont know that the first part is a clue nor do you know what the clue is telling you. We found it after 15 min by an accident.
Quote: gordonm888Sadly, I have concluded that I am a NO, I will be unable to attend the WOV Spring Fling this year.

The group probably failed miserably because the smartest and second smartest of the group were locked in a different room for the first ten minutes. :)

Yeah, I remember it took some dummy to crawl up in the separate room to see what the good players missed.

lmao... yes indeed.
2. I'm a yes for the main event, mob museum, escape room, Friday night craps, Saturday night gambling. My wife is probably 70/30 against attending. She'd have to miss work at the same time she's fighting for a contract for next school year.
3. Kids say the darndest things. Lady in front of me and across the aisle on the plane today was watching a movie. Sex scene comes on. there's no content editing on west jet's films & it's graphic. Kid behind me says "look mommy! It's like you and daddy!"
4. We've.done pizza and burgers in the past. That seems to be the right price point. I think we only did it out of downtown once, when we met at Paris. Downtown worked a bit better, I think.
5. I thought last year's venue worked well, and we could have fit a few more people in that room.
I would be down for the Mob museum, escape room, poker run, and hike! Of course that's a lot of activities and I'm not quite sure when they are or how long my stay will be... but I like the idea of all of them!
Quote: FCBLComishIn reference to escape rooms, sometimes when the whole party consists of people who cannot figure out how to stop the blinking clock on their VCR, some kids may help out more than you may think.....
I don't have kids, so I stayed away from opining on it, but I would think kids those 2 ages, if they're into playing with strange adults in a team, would be very useful. Between how they're learning to think, smaller size, probably better agility, and their familiarity with new data- or e-tools use should be in the team's resources.
Quote: billryanWill people who paid $50 to experience this want to be wanting kids on their team?
Kids in general are not necessarily a pariah.
I wonder if people who paid $50 to experience this will want to be in the same room locked in with WOV members from an opposing political party :)
Breaking News: 8 people found in death grips after being locked in inescapable room. Witnesses said Trump and Mueller epithets could be heard repeatedly coming from the room
The walls were painted MAGA in blood
ROTFLMAO.Quote: beachbumbabsI don't have kids, so I stayed away from opining on it, but I would think kids those 2 ages, if they're into playing with strange adults in a team, would be very useful. You should have just told him/her the truth. I would have, but your mamma's ex stole them all from the safe.Quote: darkoz

You dont tell someone who still believes in santa claus how the world of AP works.
You ever have children?
Quote: PokerGrinderMy flight is booked, I get into Vegas on the 5th and stay for one night. On the 6th I grab my rental car and head for California. I will be back on Thursday at some point until Sunday.
Im also looking into a California side trip if i go.
Priced for vegas to LA were at $59. You sure you dont want to fly there and grab a rental in cali?
Obviously, I wasn't serious.Quote: darkozYou dont tell someone who still believes in santa claus how the world of AP works.

If you bring that rugrat, not only am I going to tell him Santa isn't real, I'm letting him/her in on the truth about the rest of the mythological characters you guys have been lying to him/her about, including grampus MFWSEAP fantasies (-;
Quote: GWAEHey I forgot about Nathan's donation. Dont we have a little cash from nathan or something?
It wasn't CASH that I donated. It was two $50 Amazon gift cards that I donated. :)
