There's a wide cross-section of posters and lurkers here, but I suspect we all gamble pretty frequently.

Then again, maybe not.

Here's a poll to take the forum's pulse.

I buy a lottery ticket once or twice a year, and go to Vegas every one to two years, so I said "twice a year" on average. I would gamble more if I didn't live near s****y Indian casinos.

If I’m not on vacation I’m in a casino probably 6 days a week.

Fri - Sun is horse racing time for me. I’m probably at a casino quarterly unless it’s a Vegas trip year.

Occasional sports bet if I’ve got a strong opinion.

I hit the casinos about twice a month.

That's enough to scratch the itch, yet not so much as to lead to insolvency.

Three to four days a week when in town. I've yet to make a trip out of town to gamble, except for running down to Laughlin.

Who 'gambles'?
Any private business open to the PUBLIC (ie. droned out casinos) cannot have a criminal trespass enforced against an individual without GOOD CAUSE (Disruptive or Disorderly conduct). You will never go to prison for being thrown out of a casino for legal advantage play and then returning because it's simply unconstitutional 'as applied' to the individual. 'As applied' constitutional issues must FIRST be raised in DISTRICT COURT (trial court) to have it thrown out. You CANNOT raise it on APPEAL This is the best kept secret in the world of casinos not just in Vegas but everywhere in the country. Thank me later.

I voted for "bi-monthly." I'll make trips to visit a casino maybe 3-4 times a year. Throw in the occasional visit to the local card room, you probably get around 6-8 times a year.

I play poker maybe 24X a year and visit casinos maybe 6x a year -because my nearest casino is a terrible Indian casino.

Counting BJ or playing poker is still gambling ZK. On any given day you or I can lose even if we have the long term advantage.

Then I guess I gamble every day. My stock portfolio goes up or down thousands or tens of thousands of dollars every day. My EV might be +8% annually, but my ride is probably similar to a BJ AP player.

Counting is only gambling if you're underfunded or overbetting your bankroll in the short run and not letting your edge actually kick in over time. Actually nevermind, im cursed so I very likely can be the .003% who lose in the long run after thousands of hours. Sorry, youre right, let me keep my mouth shut. Nevermind, too late, divine intevention is already underway.

Not all gambling involves wagering.

For example, if a guy passes on a blind curve he's gambling with his life.

If a guy cheats on his wife he's gambling he won't get caught.

But the intent of the thread was to focus on wagering for money, fighting against known odds.

Really, when you think about it, recreational gamblers such as myself are really doing somehting incredibly dumb playing games of chance when we know the odds are against us.

Oh, the humanity!

I gamble or place a bet just about every damn day. I'd estimate about 10-15 days a year I don't do any type of gambling...most of which would be when I'm out of town on a non-gambling trip, but even then, I'm probably doing something even on the day of travel, because stuff still gots to get done. Some days (rare) I just don't do any type of gambling, because either I'm being lazy or there's nothing to go do, but oftentimes it's also just because I'm working on stuff at home trying to figure out how to make a play happen, record keeping, etc.

I have been on quite a few plays where it's impossible to lose money unless the casino FK's you. I guess that's still a gamble.

If I had my choice, I would never step foot in a casino unless it was for dinner or something non gambling related.

There are some plays that are super fun and some that are very boring. Sometimes I can't wait to get done and just go home.

ROTFLMAO. Now you are just being silly.

You may have gotton the wrong impression. I love doing what I do, however, I would rather be fly fishing or be a successful artist.

I know the show American Pickers probably isn't at all what they show on TV, but in my imagination I think I would be in heaven doing that and making money.

I’m not sure how much success you’d have trying to fish for flies, but hey, you do you! (Joke, btw....) I can see how that’d be tough in Vegas though. We aren’t known for our many rivers. (Which is good because, like trees, rivers are also awful.)

But I don’t see why you can’t do artist stuff on your spare time? I don’t know anything about art, but I do occasionally watch YouTube videos on art stuff like learning how to draw and stuff. Idk why I do, but I do. Just get a mallet, paint, other supplies, and go ham. Or get a sketchbook with them fancy pencils that piss me off because I swear they’re all the same except supposedly they’re different and my art teacher in HS got mad at me because idk how to draw for sh** even though she was actually a nice lady she just seemed mean sometimes and idk why I’m rambling. There’s some guy on YouTube I watched a bit and he does animations as well as flip books, which I think is pretty cool. Not that I’d do it, but I think it’s cool nonetheless.

During WWII, Japanese Zero fighter pilots were taught as part of their training to pursue and catch flies using chopsticks to enhance their hand / eye coordination.
