Most people will move up or down income quintiles in their lifetimes.

Quintiles, a lovely word.

quin·tile
1.
Statistics
any of five equal groups into which a population can be divided according to the distribution of values of a particular variable.

I'm going to start using it in sentences
just to confuse people. It sounds so
authoritarian..

Medicare comes out of FICA payments. Social security does as well. As does unemployment. It's an error of thinking to include them into general expenditures when they have their own (and separate) lines of revenue. (Sidebar edit: WHY is it fair that EVERYONE pays 7.62% on their first 100k or so, and then it stops being deducted? Why shouldn't it be that same percentage of ALL income? You aren't double-taxed in FICA.)

Slight correction. Medicare is a separate 1.45% tax paid by both the person and the company in addition to FICA. Also the Medicare tax is more a true tax than FICA, as it does not end at any high income level. There is also some additional .9% bonus tax the 'rich' pay for Medicare. FICA ends at the value that the government figures out a max payment, which is now around 130k, not 100k. Since someone making 40 million a year will get the same payout as someone making 130k a year, they are 'contributing' the same amount. That's why I always say it is complicated as to how to consider FICA, as a tax or a contribution.

I want a liberal to address these numbers. 2 million out of our 325 million pay 70% of our taxes. I guess the numbers are just shocking to me. Do you truly believe that it is fairer for the 'rich' to pay even more? How much is enough? Should the top 2 million Americans pay 90% of our taxes? How about all of the taxes?

Simply asking the question shows a liberal bias. Broke people have no money to pay, so the burden must always fall on unequal amounts. One way to make any distribution "fair" or "fairer" is for the government to figure out how to get blood from stones. The other way to make things more fair and for tax payers to be better off is for the government to stop spending so much. Until they do that, any questions of tax fairness is focus on the symptoms, while helping to make the underlying problem worse.

Until the government can figure out a way to get money from people who don't have any money, we have a system that is good enough to cover their spending. If any rich person wants things to be more fair, they can do what the underclasses used to do and go on strike.

Turns out that if your husband has bareback sex with a porn star while you're home nursing your newborn, it will garner some sympathy.

Republican hero John McCain is unfortunately on his death bed due to brain cancer.

He’s requested a eulogy from Barack Obama, and that Trump not attend the funeral at all.

If they just banned fast food and cigarettes, or refused to subsidize those making those decisions, healthcare would be affordable for most....ridiculous of course, but cars/guns/anything that contributes to a large number of deaths seems to be on the table for discussion.

Fast food really probably should be given the idiot tax like cigs and cost $15 a meal for the good of everyone who’s not interested in self destruction.

Sad yes. Some of trumps comments on McCain show he height of his verbal pettiness.

Should there be not only term limits but an age limit on some of these positions? I believe John is 81. I personally don’t want anyone over 80 making any decisions for me, too unpredictable for mind or Heath to deteriorate quickly. Donald, Hillary, and Bernie were all too damn old to be running for president in the last election IMO.

IDK. I lobbied Strom Thurmond when he was 93 and still grabbing bottoms. He also could still form sentences and his staff either put on a really good show of deferring to his ideas and decisions, or they had him trussed like a Christmas turkey for showtime. Honestly can't say, but I think he was functional even then.

Perhaps, like driver's licensing, there should be an annual physical and mental evaluation for them to pass to remain in office, required to be reported to the constituency, after age xx.

Or perhaps people could simply vote them out. With the Congressional Seniority system so powerful, a lot of formerly powerful people get propped up like scarecrows by their staff just so they don't lose the rank for the state. I think seniority helps more than it hurts, though, because it retains institutional memory and allows for some continuity.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

All the time he thought the media liked him, "independents" too. All the time they liked him the same way the screws on the tier like the rat. Soon as the rat is of no use to them, they abandon him. I remember within days of him locking the nomination up the NYT turned on him. He never got it.

He is one of my biggest reasons for being against open primaries.

Term limits, absolutely, and age limit should be SS full retirement age (right now it's 67 I believe?).

People that old and older are too out of touch with reality and the direction societies are headed to be in charge of anything.

And I don't mean that in a bad way... that's just how it goes. I mean, I'm "only" 41, and I already feel out of touch with a lot of things. Give me another 25-30 years and there's no way I should have any serious responsibilities. The people I work with that are 10, 15, 20 years older than me are clueless about so many things.

In McCains support for illegals he said that if there were any Americans that could work the season in Yuma picking vegetables, he would personally pay them $50 per hour.

He really had something against American labor. Hard to believe he kept getting elected, just shows you how staunch Rep. it is down here. Anything he could do to keep wages lower, he would do.

It says a lot about the current state of the GOP that these truly horrible human beings keep winning their primaries (or even come close to winning them).

For your viewing pleasure....

Donald Trump Motorboating Rudy Guliani dressed in drag

100% legit

The gif didn’t load but I’m gonna say it’s probably #FakeNews

Although I kinda hope it’s real, even though idk what it is, because that’d be funny.

It's very real. It was on all the news channels about 25 years ago (thinking 90s, could have the date wrong). They were being clever and cute, back when it was cool to make fun of men in drag and stuff like that.

Look up Milton Berle, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Flip Wilson. Then figure Tyler Perry - Medea, Robin Williams - Doubtfire, Dustin Hoffman -Tootsie, Dame Edna - Hairspray, bunch of others. Tom Hanks and another guy had a series doing it called Bosom Buddies. All straight men (I think) very famous in their time doing drag. A couple won Oscar nominations for it. Butch guys were expected to play along, motorboat, flirt, whatever.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Brian Steltzer on CNN says

Amazing how much CNN EB watches
He must be a huge fan
Who is Brian Steltzer and why does EB listen to this guy?
Maybe because EB knows CNN is the most trusted name in news

How did the guy from Stray Cats get into the news business :-)
When somebody doesn't believe me, I could care less. Some get totally bent out of shape when not believed. Weird. I believe very little on all forums
