It’s pure BS we are accommodating these people unwilling to learn the language of the land.

And I will gladly still call anyone unwilling to learn the language of the land an idiot. Just as I would be considered if I moved to Iran and expected to be accommodated.

When the Heights first was turning Latin, my Uncle put up a sign saying Speak Gaelic and English or be gone. The neighborhood went from Irish to Mexican and Dominican and the bar lost a fortune. Never piss off a potential customer unless you are sure they can be replaced.

I don’t think this is all that surprising or avoidable.

IQ’s are normally distributed:

That means 16% of Americans have an IQ <85, just due to natural variation. Even given a quality education, most of those people are going to have significant difficulty learning to read.

This is why I disagree with many (not all) “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” arguments when it comes to policy. There are a lot of people who don’t have bootstraps.

I was reading that this trade war is going to cost the American family about $800 a year. Those tax cuts are looking good now, eh?

My dad is a small farmer, not his primary source of income anymore and said that the tariffs last year cost him about 20k. If that’s the case then it would have cost larger operations hundreds of thousands.

I don't get it
Republicans used to be for free trade
Now because of Trump
Republicans no longer believe in free trade and instead believe in socialism where the govt is forced to support private failing businesses with billions in tax payer money
This is just wrong
What happened to republicans supporting capitalism and letting private businesses succeed or fail without billions in govt handouts

Hey, now. I personally am getting g a $13 refund. I thought I might owe, but heck $13 is $13.

I don't understand tariffs as well as our president, so somebody help me out.
I am sitting on $10,000 worth of TSSD merchandise, made in China. Effective now, new imports pay a 25% tariff so the same stock will cost more to replace. The bottom line is my competition will now pay more and thus charge more.
The item that I paid $1 for, my rivals are now paying $1.25 for. I can sell for $2.25 and make a better profit than their margins on a $2.50 price point. Consumers who were paying $2 now will pay either $2.25 or $2.50.
How is this a good thing?

Sidebar. Because of the way specific crops deplete different nutrients in the soil you can’t really grow the same crops in the same fields year after year. Typically I’m the Midwest what is soybeans one year will be corn the next year and vice versa. Those sort of decisions kind of have to be made a couple years ahead to have a chance at effective crop. And the pot comment...different climates different things grow well in different types of soils, as well as legal issues in majority of markets. Terapined you are making extraordinarily ignorant comments. It’s reasonable to be against the subsidies but unless you think it’s reasonable to predict these tariffs multiple years out, my point is there’s not much those farmers could do to decide this late what’s going to be in their fields this year other than grow nothing while transitioning. BTW pot is cheapest in Washington and Oregon legal markets, $20-$35 for what charge $40-$75 in most other markets.

Hemp could make a great replacement for soy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp#Uses

Amazing amount of products can be made from hemp, and it's much easier on the soil and requires 1/14th the water as does cotton.

A tariff is a tax, yes. Its purpose is not just to raise revenue but to make a nation economically independent of others and to bring its citizens to rely upon each other rather than foreigners. Nations that have risen to the top of the economic ladder didn't do it thru free trade. Economic nationalism puts America and Americans first. Tariffs are optional and can be avoided by not buying Chinese junk. Buy American and support a worker making a livable wage.

Laughable diagnosis. 30 years too late to "Buy American". American greed caused American bankruptcies by the thousands for small and large manufacturers and suppliers.

There are now many whole categories of goods you can't buy American if you wanted to, for any price. And a lot of those, especially electronics, clothing, goods of metal or wood, were first developed by us for us, but jerks like Trump went offshore for their suppliers and undercut American products.

Speaking of laughable...your new tagline is not just full of lies, it's complete hypocrisy. Trump and his Administration is the most corrupt, venal, dishonest government in the history of this country. I cannot imagine who can ignore the dozens of people in high positions who have resigned in disgrace, are indicted, or are in prison for malfeasance. The list would fill an entire page of this forum. What a joke.

Tariffs are the taxes that made America great. Before the globalists such as FDR and Wilson decided to try and destroy us. The Tariff Act was one of the first acts passed by the first Congress. Its purpose was to encourage and protect manufacturing. It is one of the key reasons America grew to preeminence on the world stage.
The lefties plans of doing each other's nails and selling burgers to one another is not what makes a country strong. What great nation was ever built with free trade?....lol

It's a disaster to democrats. Economy booming. Unemployment low. At all time low for women and minorities. Respect regained amongst nations that was lost during the Obama farce. This is a disaster for democrats that need a return to the poverty, hopelessness, unemployment, divisiveness of the previous 8 years so they can pretend they can fix the problems they cause. There are always a lot of stupid people that will believe the same lies over and over and over.

Yup, I hear Putin made Pompeo wait for him for three hours the other day. If that’s not respect, what is?

Deep State Blame Game: Comey, Clapper, Brennan Spar Over Who Pushed ‘Pee’ Dossier as Credible Intel

Oh please. They're not fighting over who gets the blame.

They're jockeying for who deserves the credit for outing Donald as a piss fiend.

Trump gets the kind of respect you give a slobbering jabbering lunatic on the bus who is armed with a knife.

How many other nations respected us enough to drop out of the Paris Accords? How many left the Iran deal when we did?
I hope we don't find out, but I suspect very few will join a war against Iran. Maybe his boyfriend in North Korea will help us.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

If we start something in Iran, I don't see any other nation joining us, or doing anything except criticizing us heavily. And they'll be right .
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I agree that we should stay out of Iran. We missed the prime opportunity to turn them into a parking lot back in 1979. However, if TPTB decide to do the bidding of Saudi Arabia then....#GoUSA
