1off each side, to keep things balanced, or both from the same side?

Might be better to just do a halving and lose the legs.

Lose both legs and get into wheelchair racing. You'll be down to 120 lbs in a year.

How about setting more reasonable goals? Forget about losing 90 pounds in six months or whatever. Chose to lose ten pounds and do it.
Once you have done that, you'll see how easy it was and set out on losing another ten.
In ROTC, the first week of school we had a meet up where all the scholarship people met each other in a bonding session. We went around the room and everyone laid out their goals. Some wanted to be Generals, some wanted to use the Army as a stepping stone. One little guy I'd hardly noticed stood up and said his goal was to make Deans List and put on some muscle.
Think small. Get a couple small victories under your belt and then set intermediate goals. We know you are going to lapse. Build them into your schedule.
One meal at a time. Forget trying to lose lots of weight. Just make your next meal healthier. Not healthy, just healthier.
I remember a video A-Rod put out a few years ago addressing teenage obesity. His summation was- it's okay to eat a potato chip, just not the whole bag.
One meal at a time.
I will again recommend Nutrisystem. Last year, you complained about its price. How did trying to save some money work out again?
Just vow to eat healthier for your next meal. Nothing more and nothing less.
Last tip- pay cash for every meal. Credit card users at Burger King spend about twenty percent more than cash customers. Lose weight and save money. Does it get much better than that?

I think that I have set a realistic goal for this attempt. It is 60ish in 9 months. Realistically I have a weekly plan. My goal is to be down 4 pounds each week with my weigh in on Mondays'

Just looked at my food budget for June. We spent $309.54 on food for the month with a family of 4. I think nutrisystem is something like 400 for 1 person. I am doing weight watchers this go around which I like doing. It really shows you how bad food is. I am fat so I get 59 points which is a ton. If I want a big mac I can have one for 15 points. I have been finishing each day with 20 points left.

one thing different for this attempt is that I have added exercising into the mix. Nothing overwhelming but much more than I did before.

Set a penalty for yourself if you don't reach your weekly goal. Make it something that will really motivate you come day six of each week. Failure should never be an option.

When I was much younger I used to wrestle. We had to weigh in the morning of each match and the day before was hell. We did all the things that were horrible for the body but we made weight. Try running with Hefty bags under your clothes for hours. Induce vomitting. Take diuretics. The coaches would give us this powder that is so sour that when you put a little on your tongue your mouth would salivate and you would spit into the toilet until you lost the necessary weight. Amazingly, you could spit out about 5 pounds per hour.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

Keep it simple, s****d ... (KISS)

Accurately record your weight first thing each morning. Any day that it exceeds the day before (by say, 1 pound) is a fasting day. Allow yourself water and a few coffees and heck... Unlimited lettuce.

It will take about 1 day to learn the discipline to avoid that punishment. You'll never need to fast more than 1 day and you can hardly gain weight over the week. EVER.

60lb will be a doddle. It will be Sooooo steady.

Yeah seeing high school classmates who were wrestlers and took it seriously nutrition habits has to be about the most unhealthy thing I’ve seen from individuals still developing (freshmen-sophomores). 95-100 lb male high schoolers with lockers full of empty slim fast cans not eating normal food, sleeping in the locker room over lunch because they had no energy, ex-lax, anything to cut weight.

Eh, it really depends. When I wrestled, I weighed about 175-180 normally but my weight class was 160. Most of it is water weight. If a weigh in was Friday morning, I’d be pretty fine if I was 170 Thurs morning. By thurs night I’d be 163-164. Float 2-3 pounds over night, wake up, and drop another 1-2 pounds. Easy. By Friday afternoon I’d already be 170 easy if not 175. Of course we’d all throw on our trash bags or if we were fancy we’d have plastics (basically plastic work out gear you put under your sweats & sweatshirts). On Thursday hit the treadmill for 30 minutes, then 10-15 minutes in the sauna. Do both again. Then you’re good. If you’re really a fatass then you tell the coach you’re leaving school Thursday during lunch to go to the gym (or run the track) and he’ll call you out of class for the rest of the day. Considering half the time Thursday class after lunch was wrestling PE, it worked out especially well.

There’s really no point in gradually losing weight throughout the week when it’s far better to lose most of it in the last 16-24 hours before weigh in. Then again, I lost weight incredibly “easier” than some others, so YMMV.

Note: This is NOT what you want to do if your goal is to lose weight long term for GWAE. Just eat right and exercise. Drink a ton of water.

Because everyone cuts weight. Wrestling at 160 but weighing 175 is a pretty good advantage.

This.

Can you possibly explain why they do it this way as opposed to LL football style? We had like a 1-2hr window on game day that closed when the intro started. You could weigh immediately and spend an hr or two garbage bagging around the property, but that, obv, leaves no room for advantage. And while perhaps not healthy, it's not as bad as the drastic cuts found in combat sports, IMO

Just seems... well, stupid.

"Weight classes" in football, IME, are pretty broad and mean almost everyone can play, except the super super fat or skinny kids. In wrestling, weight classes tend to be pretty small with 5, 10, or 15 pounds in between each class. You obviously can't do that for football (a team sport) because there aren't that many kids that can fall into each weight class, especially when you consider people are going to be different sizes in football on purpose (linemen are going to be bigger than a safety or corner back).

Or if your question is the other way around, which now re-reading it that seems to be the case -- why doesn't wrestling do it like football where they have a broad weight class. I would say, mostly because there are enough kids of different sizes to warrant it. You can have a 170 pound lineman in football on the same team as a 135 pound safety. In wrestling, you just simply can't do that. Weight is just such a huge factor.

Or perhaps I don't really understand the question? Another way I may interpret the question is how/when weigh-ins are done. I can't speak for how they were done in the 1920's, DRich can speak for that. :) But back in my day, well....there are a few different ways they did weigh ins. In high school (folkstyle) wrestling, if it was a dual match (1 team vs 1 team), then weigh ins would be about 1-2 hours before the match started. We pretty much always wrestled up a weight (so I wrestled 171 in duals but 160 in tournaments) because I obviously wouldn't be able to hit 160 for that, since the duals were after school and that'd just be terrible. Everyone on the team did it from what I remember. For smaller or easier tournaments we'd all move up a class and I'd also wrestle 171.

Most tournaments were Friday + Saturday, so you'd have to weigh in Friday morning, I think 2 hours before the tournament started. One day tournaments were always only on Saturday. No 3-day tournament existed. For us heavier folk, it was nice because they'd start the tourny at lower weight classes, so we had more time to re-hydrate before we had to wrestle. The second day, we'd have to weigh in again, but you'd get an extra 1 pound allowance, so if you 160 on Friday then you had to be 161 on Saturday. A lot of kids would be 0.5-1.0 pounds under weight....I don't remember ever being that low. If I had to be 160, I'd either weigh in at 159.8 or 160.0.

Then there's also freestyle/greco roman style wrestling (which is run by USA Wrestling, not high school). Tournaments ran on Saturday + Sunday and they always had weigh-ins on Friday night. You didn't have to weigh in again, which was super nice and made cutting weight that much more important. When I wrestled freestyle & greco, I wrestled at 130, but by Sunday afternoon I'd be pushing 145 easily, if not 150.

Wrestling someone 10 pounds lighter than you, you can very easily tell they are a whole lot lighter. Wrestling someone 10 pounds heavier than you, you can very easily tell. An anecdote here, but it was also pretty damn easy to guess what someone weighed. At a dual match or tournament, you'd look at the other kids and be like, "Alright, that guy is 135, that guy is 140, over there is 145, he's 152..." and of course I'd be right.

Another anecdote but I like the story too much not to tell. So one of the coaches got a hair up his butt one year and decided to institute a "healthy weight loss" tracking system or some nonsense. Basically, after practice we'd have to weigh in and log our weight. On Monday, if we weren't within 3% (or some arbitrary figure) of our weight class for the Fri/Sat tournament, we wouldn't be able to wrestle in that weight class. That coach was an idiot (he did this so his son could wrestle varsity even though the kid was terrible, and he [coach] knew we wouldn't be able to be within 3-5 pounds on Monday of our Friday weight, which is why he did this, I'm pretty sure).

Anyway, the scale was up against the wall near an open door in the wrestling room. It was a digital scale (they all were), so you'd be looking down at the ground to read the weight. Well, me being a brilliant fellow had a great idea, but it took some teamwork. Obviously I wouldn't be <165 on Monday, so I came up with a plan that worked pretty good. Sometimes when kids would step on the scale, a kid behind him would put his foot on the scale to make it seem like he was 5 pounds heavier. A practical joke, if you will. Pretty common.

So I'd get on the scale, reach my hand up onto the door and lift myself up a little bit. It's pretty difficult to do that and let the scale stay constant because keeping an exact equal amount of force on your hand on the door is pretty damn hard. So I'd have a friend behind me, put his foot on the scale as I got on, my hand on the door lifting myself up. Coach would be like, "Wtf RS, quit being an idiot and moving around, let the scale do its thing." Meanwhile, I'd be adjusting pressure/force on my hand holding me up, and the kid behind me would be like, "Haha, gotcha, I had my foot on the scale." As soon as I got my weight to show 163-165 or w/e for more than a second or two, I'd get off immediately, and the coach would be content that I actually weighed that much. My record was actually 189 and I got it to show 162 LOL.

The head coach wasn't such an asshole but he was always paranoid I wouldn't make weight for some reason. At one tournament where I weighed in at 160.0, by the end of the day I was at 178. He asked what my weight was and I'm obviously not going to tell him the truth. I figured he'd be relaxed if I told him I was only 7 pounds over and not 17 pounds over, so I told him I was 168 instead of 178. To me, losing 7 pounds would have been a piece of cake. Anyway, he blew a damn gasket and was pretty damn furious. Good thing I didn't tell him the truth, he would'a stroked out immediately. He calmed down a bit (not much) when I reminded him I had NEVER missed weight and he should be more worried about some other kid (that kid missed weight at 140's so he wrestled 145, then on Saturday he missed 146 so got DQ'd...LOL). Of course I made weight the next day weighing in at 161.0. I ended up winning the tournament, too.

Thank you... that is the plan. Right now it is 94 degrees and 71% humidity. This is about the grossest day in a while, especially to be at a picnic. Had 4 beers and now destroying water. Wondering how this will affect my weigh in. Had about 9 bottles so far but also sweating. Hopefully the water weight goes quick.

Was a little disappointed last night. When I got home I did a weigh in to see how bad the day was. I really did not eat that much, especially compared to what I would have before. I weighed 290.. wtf +1 for the week and +5 in 1 day. Weighed myself in the morning and was at 288. I am doing a fast today.. Have not had anything at all yet, not even water. I am pissed after yesterday. I weighed myself right before posting this and I am at 286. I guess I have extracted some of that water that I drank yesterday.

I am determined this time I tell ya..... going to hit this fing goal.

TBH, I havent restricted water. Just too lazy to go to the kitchen. I had a large glass of water a little bit ago. No food yet today, starting to feel a tad hungry though. Gonna drink more water to see if I can get the hunger to go away. 4 more hours will be a 24 hour fast. Maybe make it to 24 hours and have a light snack? Or maybe just go to bed and eat breakfast for a 32 hour fast.

If you can make it to bed time, why not take the free 8 hours or so?

couldnt make it. I just had an apple and a bunless cheeseburger. 24 hours was harder than I thought, well. 400ish calories for the day is probably the lowest that I have ever done.

Don't worry about your day to day weight. Just pin up a paper & pen on your bathroom wall and weigh yourself every morning and write down your weight (for consistency). Also, JUST DRINK WATER. If you think you've had enough water, you haven't -- drink more. Don't drink soda (any kind), juice, or alcohol -- that's all the devil's drink.

Low carbs, low sugar and lots of fat and protein and you will not want to eat more than once a day. I did this and started at 195 pounds. First month lost 20 pounds, second month 10 pounds. I am 2 weeks into my third month and weigh 159. I eat once each day and then fast for 24 hours. Rarely am I hungry.

My number 1 beverage is the store brand cans of seltzer water. I still drink diet occasionally, but actually, prefer just carbinated water by a quite a bit. Then, iced tea. I especially like green iced tea, which seems to be catching on a bit.

24 hours gets easier. Sometimes it's just easy.

I play the fasting by ear. There are times where I don't feel great within 24 hours so I eat. Some of my longer fasts have been unplanned. I start a short one and I feel fine so I keep going.

Right now I'm doing keto cycling with fasting. However long I feel like on keto, with fasting mixed in. Then I take a while off, with some cheat food, but also lots of fruit and stuff.

I've taken a decent chunk out of that last remaining wall of flab.

That was my first rule. No calories in drinks at all except for cream in my coffee. I have not had a pop, sports drink, juice, or milk all week. I did have beer yesterday but that is a once off during an event. I never drink at home.

I bought some seltzer water stuff this week and I can not stand any of it. I tried that bubly stuff today. It felt like it was burning my lips. I bought a case of diet cherry pepsi. that is one of the diet drinks that I like. I am ok with the taste but it does not satisfy any type of cravings at all so I will probably just throw it away.

I wonder how much weight someone would lose doing everything exactly the same as before except no calories in drinks, no candy, and no fried foods.

Yeah, over on r/hydrohomies we call club soda / seltzer water "spicy water". It's the best of the best. Just drink all the seltzer water you have....you'll end up liking it, trust me.

is that because it burns all of your taste buds off and you cant taste anything. It had a "dry" taste to it. Not sure how water makes me feel like I am drinking powder.

I started on Sunday july 14 so my official 1st day weight is back up to 289. Goal is to be 235 by the spring fling so 7 pounds a month should be doable.

Week 2. July 22nd. Weigh in 286. -3 pounds

A little disappointed in the week. That one day messed me up but there was still progress. If I can do 3 pounds every week then I will succeed.

steady as you go. Just like blackjack, you'll encounter variance some weeks you lose 6 and some weeks you lose none. Just be introspective when you lose none because that indicates you consumed Something you shouldn't have.
The cheeseburger without a bun made me chuckle. The cheese probably had lots more calories than the bun you didn't have. Bet you didn't have any lettuce or tomatoes on it. Hope you avoided mayo and ketchup too
Was it a quarter pounder or bigger? I'd have gone for a regular Micky D quarter pounder with cheese. Small but a mix of flavours and textures. With few calories

Fibre fibre fibre. Ra Ra Ra!
Psalm 25:16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Proverbs 18:2 A fool finds no satisfaction in trying to understand, for he would rather express his own opinion.

My wife is now drinking hard seltzer water. I think it is called White Claw.

At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

I picked up a Soda Stream at a garage sale for $10. I just fill the bottle with ice water and it's gets all bubbly. I like it better than plain ice water.

It would be nice to be able to point your phone camera at any plate of food and have it give you back the calorie estimate And file it in a tracker.

That was an episode of Silicon Valley. They invented an app that could do that, but the prototype could only distinguish "Hot Dog" and "Not a Hot Dog" or something like that.

Tonic has quinine, not club soda.

Club soda is seltzer with some added minerals.

Losing again after a 3 month stall. In 2018 I was 245 lbs. I hit 195 lbs on my 45th Birthday this May. Bounced back up to 202 by August. 190.0 this morning.

Maybe 20 to go. 5' 10".
