Skynyrd stopped using the Dixie flag in late 2012:
"Original member Gary Rossington said the decision was made because the flag was unfairly being used as a symbol by various hate groups, which is something that we don'tt support the flag being used for. The KKK and skinheads weren't perverting the flag. They were re-appropriating it. This isn't the Nazis repurposing the swastika from Hinduism and debasing its meaning."
They brought it back - and then rid of it again.

I drink on the job all the time. I also work from home.
Quote: HomelessnycStart going to your job drunk, report back how that ends up
Again, it depends on the job.
Mickey Mantle famously hit a home run while staggeringly drunk. When asked how he did it, he said he simply aimed at the middle ball.
In my time as a club owner, I tolerated drunk performers, dealt with drunk bartenders and fired drunk bus boys.
When critics of US Grant accused him of drinking too much, President Lincoln said to find out what he drank and send it to the other Generals.
In any event, no one is suggesting these protests are affecting players performance.
We just all figured he was a total idiot as he hid the drinking well. Turns out he'd been drinking all along.....plus he was an idiot.
Terapined makes a good point -- what's the point of having rules if you're not going to enforce them? High five! :-)
Quote: FaceA decent opinion. Here's mine. I've one American Flag, a burial flag. I'm the only one who's touched it since it was folded by the honor guard and presented to my grandmother...
That particular flag means something to you.
Quote: FaceThing is, I've had other American flags. I remember the latest. Just a Made in China piece of polyester on a nickel popsicle stick. It hung in my garage for a bit, and then it fell.... America 2017 is, IMO, a wretched cesspool of horses**t, and I'll not disrespect the walls in my home in such a manner. ..
The meaning of the 'flag' to you has degraded in every other sense. I get that. I'll just leave it at that.

Like I said, snowflakes can't handle it.
There was a YT video of some girl going crazy over the General Lee being on display. Demanding it be removed in an hour or she was "going to go on social media and start a letter writing campaign." The guys near the car mostly ignored her. But it shows how lefties cannot handle something so simple as a car from the one of the most wholesome, family shows of all time.

Generally if you are good at what you do you can bend the rules somewhat and get away with it. This includes apparently NFL players who want to peacefully protest at a game.
MSN is reporting that former Ranger Anejandro Villanueva's jersey is the top seller at the NFL shop since he was the lone Steeler to not protest with the team.
See I can be even-keeled sometime.

Of course, you're making a point as well. Righties can't handle it when a bunch of people decide to kneel for a national anthem or protest a Confederate General.
Skynyrd couldn't handle it either and rather than keeping it to make a point, the band decided that the symbol wasn't important enough to him.

Of course, if you're good at what you do, then you get leeway when you bend the rules. People are confusing that with doing the right thing or it being okay.
I've seen extremely rude players at casinos saying things to dealers & other employees from "suck my d***" to "f*** off" and a bunch of other crap.....and some get away with it because of the amount of money they spend and lose. That certainly doesn't mean it's okay to show such gross disrespect just because you can get away with it.

Not true on any issue and never has been in a group as large as the military. Also include vets.

They should protest on their own time. These screwballs seem to forget that in the end they are nothing more than paid entertainment. Definitely choosing anytime other than during the Anthem would have helped their cause.
Quote: FaceSorry to turn to fiction, but Jeff Daniel's character in The Newsroom, remember that rant? Fiction, sure, but there's something there.
It is rare that I'll post here...but The Newsroom...Face, I friggin loved that show!
Unfortunately, news done the right way in America won't draw eyeballs/sell ads...wasn't that one of the premises of the show. If you aren't selling some "us vs. them" narrative like Fox or MSNBC, you're cooked. You think Cronkite would draw an audience today?
Geezus, just look at this thread...what a complete waste of time with the majority of posters firing off one liners. No one wants to have a real debate here, it is rightie this and leftie that...might as well quit now Face, you ain't gonna find anything of quality here.
Today's government and media are a reflection of who we are. The majority of Americans don't like to work hard anymore or create value...just pay me my money, and that is $15/hr minimum by the way, whether I create that much value or not. Gotta get what's owed me by The Man so I can get home to watch the latest episode of the Kardashian's or The Apprentice. I mean really, what does that say about America today that we have a never ending iteration of Housewives from somewhere receiving any eyeballs these days?
It happens because our society doesn't want to think hard either....we want to live self-indulgent lives (or watch others doing that) and be entertained by our mindless posts on FB, Instagram or dare I say WoV. So much more fun than actually accomplish anything significant. Sure there are exceptions to everything, but that is basic 'Merica today both on the Left and the Right. How does that expression go...."We have found the enemy and he is us!"
We are in such bad shape that we sanctioned this country to chose between Hillary and Trump to lead us forward...those options tell you all you need to know about the US Politics. The Dems couldn't figure out that maybe it was never going to be "Her Turn" & a freakin Socialist was the only one to challenge Hills in the Primaries and the Reps had 87 candidates including idiots like Cruz, Little Marco & Rick Perry instead of rallying around a moderate like John Kasich that might actually pull some votes and support from left of center.
So here we are with Trump...did we learn anything? I doubt it, but if this country was ever ripe for a centrist candidate from either party that had the courage to tell the fringe in their Party to pound sand, they'll be POTUS in 2020. Unfortunately, the Dems will put up Elizabeth Warren or some other hard left whack job and the Reps won't have the balls to tell The Donald he is really going to have to win a Primary Race again to get the 2020 Rep Nomination so we'll end up with another 8 year waste of a time that we could have used to get back to becoming the greatest country in the world...but that will have to wait 'cause the Real Housewives of NY is about to start and 'Merica needs some mental stimulation.

You can't live another person's life for them. You can only hold true to who you are, and respect that other people have a right to their opinions. The essence of freedom is to live without fear of judgment or condemnation.
The flag represents millions who died for it. Many millions more fought for it, many of them here, on our soil, just within the last half century. The kneeling thing is not disrespecting the flag. It's a prayer that those who wave it live up to it. It's an expression of disappointment, but also of hope, because the flag holds such promise, that we can find ourselves again.
For me, that means we all work together towards our common purpose: that all American men and women ARE created equal, and entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I think they have a point. Same one you have, as it happens. It's just been framed differently.
Segue....
If I were running America, I would do the following:
Everyone. Everyone. Would serve 2 years somewhere. Labor on infrastructure. Childcare or educator. Military. Logistics and support. Minimum wage + room and board. Capitalism can wait that long while you pay your national dues.
Congress would be term-limited like the Presidency and many Governorships.
Total transparency in election donations. Overturn Citizens United. Limit campaign continuations per person.
Healthcare ... gonna get blowback for this, but on this one thing, Bernie is right. Single-payer, get rid of for-profit medicine. Cap malpractice awards. They've had their chance.
Cut military spending somewhat. So much of it is black ops and secret I don't know where to start.
So much more...but that's enough red meat for one post.

Perhaps Caitlyn is more your style (-;Quote: IbeatyouracesThey're all ugly.
Government would be essentially as limited as possible and only extend as far as it needs to, not as far as people want. Stuff like road work, police, fire department, military, etc. are things IMO only the government can really be in charge of. Government benefits as we know them today wouldn't be done through the government. If you want a retirement plan, any type of insurance, etc., you do it through a private company. Government steps in when necessary, not just because someone wants them to step in.
Of course, regulations would exist so the companies can't screw over people, monopolize, etc.
Laws would be much more common sense and none of this bullsh** technicality nonsense. You break into someone's house and slip on something, break your neck....you can't sue them, you end up rotting in jail for the rest of your life. If you get in a car accident and your BAC is 0.01% you don't get charged with a DUI.
You're taxed on what you purchase and tax goes to that government service (ie: gas + car purchase tax goes to roads), if there is one.
Health care / health insurance -- You can buy health insurance if you want to. If you don't want health insurance but have lots of money or forego it, you sign up in some system with the hospital (like a big network of all hospitals) saying you got the money to pay up to $X amount. If you don't have insurance or money, you're SOL. For the rare times when someone ends up in a hospital and cannot be identified (ie: crazy car crash), you get treatment up until you can be identified. Everyone would be taxed a small amount for this service, whether you want it or not.
Take power from the federal government and put it in the state government. If you want to live in a sleezeball liberal state, move there. If you want to live in a regular state that doesn't suck, you move there.
But ultimately, the biggest problem is with power comes corruption. That's a purpose of the checks and balances system our country's founding fathers created, to keep any part of the government from gaining too much power and control. But really, it's whoever has the upper hand on the other is the one that decides what happens, whether right or wrong. On top of that, having the government "keep itself in check" is like having 3 children, saying Alice is in charge of Bob, Bob is in charge of Charlie, and Charlie is in charge of Alice -- they'll keep each other in line for some time until they figure out they don't have to keep each other in line because their parents aren't watching them and they can do as they please.
Unfortunately, from here on out, the government can really only get stronger. It's not ever going to get weaker. Over time, it'll turn into the likes of North Korea.

Sounds more like an authoritarian to me. That's how dictatorships start.
NFL players have every right to wipe their ass with the flag if they like, the NFL has every right to discipline them as they see fit, and you have every right to boycott their product if you don't like it. That's how this freedom thing works.
Suggesting an employer MUST fire an employee because you don't like something they did is the very antithesis of everything the flag/anthem represents.

Don't look at me, demanding an employee be fired for doing something you do not like is liberalism 101.
As to the anthem, I remember at least in the 1990s that players must stand respectfully was in the master contract. Supposedly the NFL never felt the need.
This is going to go bad for the NFL. The public does not want to see players acting like asses during the anthem. Liberals will love it, but that is what, 25% or so of the population, and a part that cares for sports less than the whole?
This has been brewing, people tired of this and that way players acting like asses. Last year is proof they have started tuning out. Trump's remarks were just a catalyst but brilliant. He is making the left say, "IT IS THEIR RIGHT TO ACT LIKE AN ASS DURING THE ANTHEM!" That will not play with the Reagan Democrat crowd. Even immigrants who might lean left will ask what is wrong with these people. Trump is a master of stirring the pot.
Back to the NFL. This will just get worse and worse all year, they will deal with it in their winter meeting, but watch for them to bend to the players and keep driving away their old fan base as they have been for years. They think people will show up same as the trash man does every week. They have to learn the hard way.
