He is right about one thing; I think that most hosts are lazy. I'm on my third one at one casino alone. The first two were a little, but barely, responsive. I was assigned to them-they didn't find me. They've both been sacked for who-knows-what reason(s) but I suspect that they weren't trying that hard with anyone else either.
The last time I was out there (and hadn't seen host #3 yet even though he arranged the room) I was playing at a $50 DD table. I was at the table alone, but for no particular reason. From behind me a host came up out of nowhere, gave me his card, and offered to get me into any tournament I wanted in the near future and waive the entrance fee. It wasn't a free stay at The Mansion, but it was the first time I ever saw a host showing a little hustle (or get up and go, if you don't like the word hustle). He was so new that he wasn't even on the hotel's list of hosts yet while my previous host, who got sacked, was still there :-). .
It's a ruthless, cynical game they play, and unlike most players they're in it for the long haul.

Definitely did not expect my Steve Cyr thread to be bumped up today. I am surprised but not upset. :) One of my rare completely serious threads. My posting quality has dropped tremendously for a good part after this completely outraged thread.
Quote: gamerfreakI have heard from Casino employees that suicides in guest rooms are a regular occurrence. You never hear about it because they have no obligation to report these types of things to the public.
I wonder if this is a case of correlation vs. causality.
Are people committing suicide because they accidentally blew their life savings and retirement funds?
Or have they already decided to commit suicide and want to go out with a bang, so they hit up Vegas to blow all their money in style before ending it all?
Probably both happen....
When they fail in that regard they say "Well, I tried" then snuff themselves: a predetermined act.
Yeah, in-casino suicide is not unusual and is not publicized by the casinos, for obvious reasons.

It doesn't need to be. It's nobody's business except the family's and business owner's.

Coroners personnel generally use freight elevators.
My first trip to Vegas had a lot of bodies but all of them were being found out in the desert.
One elderly woman did trip on a set of two or three steps and the casino turned up the lights and casino security threatened to arrest the paramedic if he entered the casino before the security guard got the okay over his radio.
A casino's concern for the players and the casino staff is not very high.
A casino is concerned about image.
Quote: MrVI believe many suicides result from people who are in dire straits and bring their last remaining money to the casino in the hope of winning enough money to solve their financial problems.

Agree.
Aside from health, which is the most important of all. However, even that can predominately bought.
Quote: LovecompsDo you think that he's right in saying that it's better not to be loyal to one casino, or to have the hosts (who I still maintain are generally lazy) competing with you for your business? I stay with the same casino because my history is there. Which way would you go?
Put it in context.
Cyr is talking about whales / orcas, guys who bet really big.
For them it makes sense to shop for the best deal, and hosts will vie for them because of the amounts they are willing to risk.
Most of us will probably never get a chance to test the waters for ourselves due to financial constraints / limitations.
