I can also try at GN but I'm not sure who's over their now either, I'll need a head count and time, I know It's hard to say what time everyone will be done with dinner and socializing. Can someone give me a good guess based on past years?
It might come down to winging it and haveing to ask GN to open a new table for us and allow other people waiting on the list to join.
I will need a headcount so speak up.
I think we have like 7-8 people and should be done with dinner around 7-7:30pm, so 8pm should be a safe bet. This is my educated guess from current details and prior events.Quote: AxelWolf...I will need a headcount so speak up.
Quote: PokerGrinderI made a reservation for 7:30 April 21 at Nora's for 8 people. 7:00 wasn't available so I went with 7:30. Nickgamingstuff you never got back to me about Friday so as of right now I don't have you included in the reservation.
A last minute change of plans has me in town this weekend. I can make dinner at Nora's if there is room to increase the reservation. If it is a problem or a hassle, no worries.
I will be @ MSS on Saturday ~around 5pm (as per the Wiz's post).

On a much less important note, I think I'm going to make an executive decision here and say that 5:00 will be the official meeting time at the Main Street Station. As usual, we'll have drinks and appetizers for an hour as people trickle in and plan to order main courses around 6:00. Why so early? As far as I know, nobody planning to go is staying at the MSS, which would have helped reserving a table, so as an unannounced group our odds will be better getting a big table at 5:00 than 6:00. I'll try to get there even earlier to reserve a large table but am doing an organized 80-mile bike ride that day so can't make any promises.

I'd love to get in on some random small side bets of waitress trivia or other random things =P.
Tomorrow, at MSS, is this at the brew pub?
Ok I'm confused here, is the poker game supposed to be tonight or Saturday night?Quote: PokerGrinderJust a reminder to Billryan, RDW and our anonymous guest that dinner tonight is at Nora's at 7:30.
The Wizard"I'm up for poker.
Speaking of head counts, what is a good number for the Saturday dinner? They will ask when I ask for the table."
I think figured it out... I hope. Nora's is a separate dinner event. And then a dinner and Poker is on Saturday?
I somehow missed there was also a dinner tonight. I think others may have as well.
Tonight's dinner is just a separate dinner/meetup for anyone in town tonight that wants to meet up. You should go and harass PG about his travels down and the promotions he came across ;-).
Address is 5780 W Flamingo dr
Hold on....My magic 8 ball says..............Quote: RomesYep, dinner and poker (main event and meetup) is tomorrow night starting at 5pm at the Brew Pub in MSS.

I'm wearing a Winnipeg Jets tshirt and a Red Sox hat. I'm a white guy with a beard and the reservation is under Rory.
Quote: KeeneoneThanks to PG for organizing/setting this dinner up. It was good company and good food @ Nora's.
Your welcome. It was very enjoyable!
Thanks for a nice night out, and I hope we all share in the Winners Circle first Saturday in May.
Billryan I agree. My veal parm wasn't as good as last time I was there.
Quote: PokerGrinderRS we were talking about that lol.

I have not been to Nora's since they moved to the new location. I always enjoyed it but I have heard when they expanded the restaurant they hired many new chefs and the food quality has really tapered off.
I guess that no one ever made money at a restaurant, either. Why do some people have too many "expectations" with restaurants?Quote: RSWelp, I forgot to cash out my $20 voucher. :(
What does that have to do with him forgetting to cash out his voucher?Quote: InTimeForSpace1I guess that no one ever made money at a restaurant, either. Why do some people have too many "expectations" with restaurants?
Quote: InTimeForSpace1You can, if I'm not mistaken - who knows - get comps, etc, for also Disneyland. And this seems to amount to coming out with more than you went in with. :)

Is that what they call it these days? I'm so out of touch.
You being a person? Then whatever happened to "attack the writing; not the writer"?Quote: RSThis is why people think you're a robot.
Gambling has to be the epitome of dysfunction. People write about even their personal tragedies on the gambling forums; and the others respond in kind with similar dysfunction and awkwardness. The normal psychologically healthy boundaries twinkle and fade. Reminds me of a fortune in a cookie, "Your friends are not your friends." They exist only because of and for the casinos, in a very strange "symbiotic" sort of relationship started by the casinos, of course. After all, they are the same and like-minded as freakishly exceptional, but still do not know each other beyond the defense of their collective dysfunction.
I'm about as "pissed" as not having been to a McDonald's in over thirty years. Damn!Quote: beachbumbabsI'm pissed that I'm missing this again this year, so I hope those of you in town will show up and make it a great event. And take all of Axel's money later. :)

This is not accurate for this specific forum. We meet in real life. We work together on game design and distribution. We play together, whether ploppies or AP's. Gambling is the basis of these friendships thru this forum, sure, but most here are professionals of one sort or another, at least those who post regularly. Can't speak for lurkers or drive-bys, but there's a loose group of about 100 people who get together on gambling -related activities, some to the larger events, others who meet up ad hoc, usually in Vegas, but not always, some do both.
I can't say I appreciate your dismissing our friendships as dysfunctional, either. We share an interest in games but also in each other. This is how people meet now; online, and to many peoples' credit here, follow through with real friendships, partnerships, and/or mutual profit.
Very few basement - dwellers among us. Most have jobs, most have families, and other interests beyond gambling, though the large percentage in the profession tend to concentrate more time here.
The only reason there's not more variety and personal discussion here is that the Wizard has specifically asked the members to keep most discussions within the confines of the forum purpose (wiser gambling and Las Vegas related threads ). But since many of us know each other, we pay attention to the personal when it is brought into the conversation.
One thing that is very unwelcome here is the kind of dismissive judgment you brought in this post. If you don't care for the company you're keeping here, the door is as close as your logout. Or you can be part of the community. Your choice.

You're dead wrong. Enjoying gambling without being addicted or compulsive is not fundamentally different from a person who has scuba diving as their hobby.
Quote: billryanVini, Vidi, Vichi !
Can we assume you won the most at the poker game last night?
This is fundamentally true but gambling does have an ability to be engaged in without regard to geography whereas scuba diving usually requires a trip to a body of water and can not be performed online.Quote: lilredroosterEnjoying gambling without being addicted or compulsive is not fundamentally different from a person who has scuba diving as their hobby.

Heck no. The much more prestigious Shackleford Trivia Contest.
Doc, in the short time I've been reading your thread, your warmth and personality has always shown through.
You and the missus have my deepest sympathies for this heavy loss. It should be the other way around.
You and Mrs. Doc will grieve on your own time and depth, No one can tell you to 'get over it' for there is no getting over this. But with time, you two will learn to live on and find strength and support from each other and well meaning family.
That took a lot to write and maybe it's part of your coping process.
It's all going to be a blur for awhile, but try to keep the room mate strangeness in the back of your minds. Something's not right there.
Please take care of yourselves and God speed.

Quote: RS"Hey Klaus, what's the capitol of Germany?"
For those who weren't there, that is an inside joke. At the poker game I bet $5 with AxelWolf that the dealer would know the capitol of Germany. He spoke in a German accent and was named Klaus, as evidenced from his name pin. Fortunately, he wasn't too insulted. He said, and I'm paraphrasing, "That would be Berlin, of course. A better question would be what was the capitol of the former West Germany?"
BTW, the same dealer game me $5 for knowing the capitol of Mongolia.
