You know, the depth of knowledge and professionalism here can't be touched the more areas of this forum I read, BUT, you guys resemble the other site in a minor way with the snipe'ing and cliques of regulars, many aren't innocent babes. That isn't unusual with public forums however . I certainly don't see evidence of mod abuse here or mistreatment. And some people like myself brought it on themselves, like myself and accepted a justified time out.
If there's anything about a 'shadow of themselves', that other board would qualify.

They felt they were wrongfully banned, and recall that the Wiz once posted to the effect "If you don't like it here, go start your own forum."
They have done so: the "Lounge" section of GF is now "their" forum.
WoV is not perfect; as with anything created by man, it is a work in progress.
My suggestion: view their comments for both entertainment value and also to aid in a bit of collective introspection and self-reflection; they are not stupid people, and some of the points they make are worth thinking about.

How is it remotely appropriate calling BBB such terrible things?(BBB is a very nice honest person who's willing to help others) It's one thing not liking how she moderates the forum or her views(I have not always liked some of her forum decisions), but there is no need for the personal stuff. You think we should fish that penny slot ticket out of the toilet I guess.

Mr V said Larry and Freddy were the ringleaders, but the thread simmered along quite well for 6-7 months before Freddy entered the picture. Who left here about that time? I looked, didn't come up with a substantial guesstimate.

Methinks there are some folk who attach WAY too much importance on web forum posting, and the artificial pseudo characters in it & who done who & who likey youse or dissed theys... Whether done from inside the huggy-likey tree-fort or not, methinks that's NOT ever a very good thing. Maybe a little bit of it is inevitable, and harmless to those doing it, for a time, but to be stuck in that indefinitely and go on mistaking it for things that are anywhere in the same time zone as the word "important" gets just plain pathological after a certain point. That point being not too much past puberty. "OMFG! Suzie didn't even say 'hi' in the hall after third period...!"
And in the rare occasions when someone really does so, if they aren't close blood relatives or someone I have decades of shared experiences with or someone I regularly swap spit with in the shower, then they are seriously troubled folk for their own reasons that really have nothing to do with the acquaintance who is the latest object of their preoccupation.Quote: Some Wisedude whose name I forgetI stopped concerning myself with whatever I might think many people think about me, when it finally dawned on me how seldom they really do so.
But pretty please, I still wanna be annoyingly important enough for a minute in someone's fevered noggin to get my fake forum screen name ridiculed at least a little by exiled nutbars nutty enough to obsess about being so friggin' wack that they're wigged-out about getting tossed from the somewhat tamer nuthouse.
Quote: WizardThis is interesting! Billy here created a whole bunch of accounts in 2009 and a few more in 2010. Then let them simmer for 6-7 years. Since they were all created with the same IP address, which it made it easy to link them all together. Here is a list of them: betbet, billryan, bthefox, burr804, cmcart19, crapzout, dna32wr, dougalou, dpieramico, hammersmoke, HTamburin, Jeffpatrick, jumbofrank, kmsea, leef3053, moneymaker, Mudbone, poppycarl, qkm1958, rgin94134, twilighter, waynemc7, yllib4.
Nice try Billy.
I may have been hasty in the banning of billyran. It was based on his IP matching that of a bunch of other members who signed up close to Halloween 2009 and rarely or never posting. Turns out the IP address is a general one for American Online. As someone else posted, the geographic location near Wichita may be based on that being the geographic center of the lower 48 states.
It seemed a little fishy that all these people signed up close to the same time, but maybe that was an IP address AoL was associated with at the time.
So, welcome back, Billy. We got off to a bad start, for which I'm sorry, but you're good with me. I won't be watching you too closely ;-).

EB, Axel, youse guys,
Thank you very much for the kind words. I'm touched.
I lost a night's sleep over it the first time someone sent me to GG to see the thread about me, a couple years ago now, I think. Since then, meh; a couple of cheeto stained masterbators with spank me Mommy fetishes. (Ooh, there's a quote good for a month's entertainment, guys. Have at it.)
MrV is not wrong about one thing. Dig into criticism, whether it's polite or obscene, you can usually find opportunity and improvement. I look for that, (though not from those guys; they're around the bend) and continue to offer my best, whether it's THE best in every case or not. And so we go on. Live and learn.
I'm pretty sure there's gotta be a site somewhere on the web dedicated EXACTLY to that. With pics.Quote: beachbumbabsa couple of cheeto stained masterbators with spank me Mommy fetishes.
(I really just wanted to quickly quote it to preserve the catchy phrase, just in case you fall prey to an unfortunate impulse to dilute it or something. It beats the hell outta bananas at bat.)
Pointlessly & for no good reason, I ask: Was/is there a semi-famous "Freddy" that's like an ax or chainsaw wielding main character in a series of some dead-teenybopper type movies or something? I'm not much up on that part of the cinematic art world, but it seems it was something like a "Freddy" that was involved when someone was making 'teenybopper-go-boo' jokes and they patiently explained to me what it was about when I wasn't getting it.Quote: WizardofnothingWho is the pos Freddy over there?
The "ban hammer" has fallen on too many decent members and this forum suffers because of it. Yes, they all "went off the rails" at some point, but what caused it? Oh, who cares...just ban them.
My favorite moderator is "Face"--he is evenhanded, does not suspend at the drop of a hat (even though other moderators have overrun him when he decided to warn instead of suspend), and engages in conversation not pontification. I guess there is a "secret moderator" out there somewhere, which still seems silly if it is true. I know being a moderator is a thankless job with no pay...and the best moderator is the one who you know is a mod but barely notice that he is one.
This board is not as good with so many decent contributors gone. Even if they were part of their own demise.
Quote: BlueEagleSeriously? I frequent this forum and I don't even remember what happened to KewlJ. Now I'm curious, but not enough to spend time searching through the suspension discussion threads. I admit that it does seem a little suspicious that someone who signed up two years ago would make their first post asking about a certain member, and understand that the member would come under scrutiny. However, for Wizard to make that reply, I'm honestly not surprised by the OP's response. For Wizard to take it as a personal insult and issue a three-day suspension -- well, I understand this is a democracy, but that is ridiculous.
I agree. The Wizard's first post was uncharacteristically weird and uncalled for.
The OP's response was about the attitude of the post. That's not a personal insult. Shame on the Wizard for banning him.
This is the banning practice that I don't like about this forum. I've have had worse comments posted about me in this forum and no one was banned. But when someone insults an administrator, the long knives come out.

It looked as if he was trying to stir up sh*it. I'm not saying he was, it just seemed a bit suspicious to me. I realize that some people love drama and stiring up a little sh*it. I don't think The Wizard likes drama.
There was absolutely no reason to start a thread titled KEWLJ for the sole purpose of asking what happened to him. That alone was cause for suspicion. It really doesn't make sense. The OP could have went to the discussion about the suspension list or general discussion and asked the question. He could have searched the forum and found out what was going on. He could have PM'ed someone and asked.
Either way it's not that big of a deal. Who cares if he asked the question, and who care if Mike said he will be watching him? If someone is so easily offended they should avoid online forms.

Saw that. He's done the same about Singer. Not smart to do that out loud and on the internet where the FBI might find it. I sense a lot of jealousy out of him by ripping on UX guys and the "top AP's".

Well, that is a post that got my attention. Death threats usually do. I think as many eyes should see that message as possible, so I am going to violate my own rule against relaying messages from banned members as quote it below.
Quote: Mickey CrimmYou take it like a man, Shack. I know you are a secret lucker of this site. You are a dead man walking. You sealed your fate when you created that suspension list and called it your "hall of shame." Who the fuck are you to judge? Did you just appoint yourself? Do you think you have the right to put people's names up on the internet on a board called "the wall of shame?" Do you really think you hold that right to disgrace people at your whim? Shack you are going to take my name off your wall of shame. And guess what else, Shack. You are going to take everybody off your shame list. You are the shame, punk.
Guess what, Shack, you little bitch. If I ever see you in person I'm just gonna start popping 44 caps in your ass. Do you know why, Shack? Because I'm self appointed just like you.
Link.
I would like to thank KewlJ for being the only one at that cesspool to repudiate that post. In all fairness, Mickey later retracted it. However, in my opinion, death threats are not something to be shrugged off the next day because you were in a drunken stupor. In my "weird and creepy" way, I wish MC to be properly and publicly shamed for that post. I also wish there to be an evidence trail, should anything happen to me.
Since I have banned others for passing on messages from banned members, so shall I now suspend myself. See you three days.
No doubt my absence from this board would not be missed nearly as much.
Besides, I have major auto repair projects to tackle, and these boards distract me.
Who knows, being a sacrificial goat may not be so baaaaaaaaaaaaaa-d.
Breaking your own rules... *GASP* LOL... that will be the first thing they bitch about.Quote: WizardWell, that is a post that got my attention. Death threats usually do. Are they breaking some cyberbullying laws? From the sounds of it, it's risen to the level of daily cyberbullying you, Mission BBB and a few others.
I'm just surprised the owner of that site allows this to go on.
Edit to add. http://cyberbullying.org/advice-for-adult-victims-of-cyberbullying
You should also take the time to check your state laws. We have discussed some of these laws on this blog and have a summary of many applicable laws here. In Wisconsin, for example, it is a misdemeanor if someone uses computerized communication systems to “frighten, intimidate, threaten, abuse, or harass another person.” It is also against the law to “harass annoy, or offend another person.” See what the laws in your state are to determine if the police should get involved.
If the threats or comments are detrimental to your health, safety, or occupation, you might want to consult with an attorney who specializes in harassment, defamation of character, false light, intentional infliction of emotional distress, or similar types of civil action.
