Is it just a coincident, or does it have something to do with the word "blind" that means you cannot see
Quote: andysifI know what a "blind" in poker means, but I wonder what is it's origin.

I would think it's because you're forced to bet before you see your cards..."blindly" placing a bet.
That's what I assumed.Quote: tringlomaneI would think it's because you're forced to bet before you see your cards..."blindly" placing a bet.
How about some tricky terms (note that I do NOT know these origins. I am genuinely curious):
Boat
Broadway
Wheel
Steel Wheel

My guess about broadway is that the queen (broad) is in the middle. I'm most likely wrong though.

The origin that I have heard for boat is that it is called that because it takes flushes down the river. ie. boat beats a flush
Broadway - Not sure if this one is real but 10-A straight is the best straight and Broadway has the best theater so they said "you can't beat Broadway". I got this off the internet.
Wheel - comes from the Bicycle company that makes cards. Again internet.
I couldn't find anything for steel wheel.
A-10 straight, top straight.

I was watching the 2012 WSOP Main Event on YouTube today. Around day 6 a player had an ace of diamonds as a hole card with a 2,4 and 5 of diamonds on the board. Lon McEachern referred to this player as having a steel wheel draw. I don't know the origin of the term steel wheel. In fact, I'd never even heard the term before.
In another main event I saw Annie Duke, after having a bad day, say that she wanted to get off the Schneid.

Also seems to make sense because of all the "stars" faces, the king, queen and jack.
A steel wheel is a A-5 straight flush, so the allusion is to a monochrome wheel.

I always thought a "steel wheel" as a wheel that is difficult to break (beat), but similar idea. Such a great hand in Omaha 8. Not sure I have got it though (probably have online). I know I've got the wheel for low and a 2-6 straight flush in a live game though which is even better, but only got 3/4ths. Couldn't believe that one.
Now I want to play this game...been awhile.
