After a couple surgeries last year, getting my strength back and golfing again.
The most used club in my bag was the 3 iron
I seem to have better shots using the 4 iron rather then the 3 iron
Ditching the 3 iron and going with the 4 if on the fairway when I need distance

We got a top golf facility in Tampa and just checked it out
Really fun. Combination golf/bar /restaurant/night club
Kind of pricy
Me and a buddy went for lunch and 90 min of hitting balls. Bill came to about 100.00 for both of us

You may not believe me, but I for some reason don't slice nearly as much as when we played. Good to hear you are back to chasing the dimpled balls....

I used to golf twice a week and was probably the worst golfer who golfs twice a week. I haven't golfed in two years now because of health problems. I have a surgery scheduled soon and will probably try golf again after that. Hopefully after full recovery my golf game will be back to it's original terrible state,

I think I can give you some competition in being a terrible golfer
I went out a few days ago to Diamond Hills golf just outside of Tampa
I bogeyed the first 3 holes and was absolutely thrilled.
Usually 2 to 4 shots over par each hole.
Regardless I still love playing

There any cheap places to golf in Vegas? Can I rent clubs n stuff, too?

I golfed a bit when I was a kid, but was too busy to really focus on it and git gud. Although I did spend many hours a day after school just chilling on/near the putting green, just practicing my short game, or whatever you whippersnappers call it these days.

If you are willing to golf during the hottest part of the day some courses do a $20 special during the summer. Renting clubs tends to be very expensive. Your best bet is to borrow some or buy a used set at a yard sale.

I knew one guy who put himself thru college on a golf scholarship so he must have been good at it.

I knew of one golfer who when he wanted to kill his wife hired some golf hustlers from his local club. Are the golf hustlers numerous and obvious about their lifestyles? Sort of like pool hall types used to be?

The Mesquite Valley courses are nice, cheap and a good bit cooler to play on. Downside is it is about ninety miles away. Upside is you can get pretty lubricated on the ride, if you aren't driving.

Despite growing up on a golf course, and having a father who is an avid golfer, I do not play at all.

Recently I played for a bachelor party. We went to the worst course we could find on purpose so we could dick around. I think this course is getting replaced by a housing development, and it's pretty obvious the owners have completely checked out. It was $25 including cart to play. I think they are just paying 1 guy to mow the grass at this point.

I played bumper carts more than I played golf, because this is literally the only place where it would be possible without getting kicked out.

It is a dry heat! We live in a desert, so you have to be out and about at some point during the summer. Why not spend 5+hours outside in a golf cart? :)

I have played many rounds of golf (poorly btw, 20+GHIN). Yet I have not played one round of golf in Nevada. This needs to change.

What Phil Mickelson pulled off yesterday really disgusts me
I play and I have never ever seen any player pull the stunt Phil pulled
Its cheating in my book and he should be thrown out
Instead he brags about cheating.
This not just any golf game
This is the tournament that determines this country's national champion

Phil hits a putt, he misses, its going long and down a hill
He rushes up to the ball and actually hits it while its still moving down a hill
WTF
Later he brags that he made the right move taking a 2 stoke penalty preventing the ball from finishing its natural roll
I am shocked he was not thrown out.
There is a 2 stroke penalty for doing this by mistake
He did this on purpose and the rule is you should be thrown out
Do the right thing Phil, withdraw
You cheated and its obvious

Whoever is enforcing the rules at the US Open is a clown with no backbone and no respect for the actual rules

I've listened to a bunch of the commentary. I have accidentally hit a ball while moving (bad bunker shot where club hit ball second time while ball in air). That is the spirit of the two shot penalty. What Phil did was mocking the men who set up the course. They would have been within their rights to disqualify him. I would vote with you, to disqualify, but understand it is not 100% clear. But it is not cheating per se. He admitted his error and assessed himself the two stroke penalty. It is up to officials to disqualify him.

I think it was a serious breach of the rules and he earned a DQ. Very poor sportsmanship and not particularly honorable. A bit weak on the part of the USGA. Maybe his position in the tourney made a difference. He was well back at the time. What if this happened and he was in the Top 10?

His responses afterward were not truthful IMO. Another utter failure at the US Open for Phil. Combined with the B. Walters crap of a few years ago, I have soured on Lefty. He seems to be turning into a rich, spoiled, evil villian type of character.

Most of the courses we play in Vegas range from $40-$60. These are generally not the courses the tourists play. You can find $25 rates afternoon during the summer if you can tolerate the heat.

My $100 is a little high after thinking about it.

There are some decent courses in the area for 30-50 with a cart, but the nicer courses are 60 or more. I always budget for at least 3 lost balls so that is probably about $5, then of course you need that hot dog, beer, and probably a gatorade at the turn. Cheap courses will probably run about $50 with everything.

I just looked at North Park which is a decent course. It is only $20 per round if you walk. BUUUTTT, no way my fat ass is walking 18 holes. Yes I know that is exercise bla bla bla, but a cart is $19.50 for 2 people. So I guess if I play with someone and split the cart it will be $30 a round. Maybe I should look into playing. For some reason I had it in my mind that it was much more. I think that is because I used to play some country clubs and nice courses.

18 rounds is way to much for one day! :) :) :)

Question for the group.:
Do you lose more or less golf balls while playing in Las Vegas. One would think with fewer trees and water hazards you would not lose as many. Golf balls tend to be expensive.

The Vegas courses I've played are 'low' on the lost ball tally. I am an EXPERT at finding balls. I would say on an average round i find 10 more than I lose. I have perhaps 1000 golf balls in a garbage can in my basement, with hundreds more in bags. I keep meaning to donate them to a local youth golf thingie.

$20 for 18 and a cart down south (Holland or Concord) AND you can BYO cooler AND wear cutoff tshirts without disproving glares. There's no better place in WNY to shoot a 120 =)

I reckon I could give you a run in ball hunting, but ever since I switched to SpongeBob balls, I'm not in the woods as long. The yellow really stands out.

I started playing regularly about 5 years ago. Thinking I needed something to occupy my time in retirement, golf is MUCH cheaper than gambling.

After 2 years of GolfTec lessons, my GHIN handicap is down to 16.

I'm also a regular at The Fremont Spring and Fall Golf Tournament. 4 nights, 2 rounds of golf, 2 meals a day plus food coupons, monetary prizes for the top 3 teams in a scramble format and parimutuel betting on the teams. All included for $645. It's a lot of fun and i'm one of the youngsters who participates at 58. A nice mix of Mainlanders and Hawaiians.

Yesterday i played 18, after work, at the local Native American joint(Sandia)here in ABQ. A beautiful desert course since they have access to plenty of water. Despite the 100 degree heat and little wind, I shot a 91 from the white tees. No lost balls. And the course was set up for the annual Sun Country PGA tournament(VERY tough pin placements I'd never seen before). I payed a twilight rate of $39 which included a cart. We finished up around 1930.

I's be interested in a WOV Golf outing in the future.

16 is pretty solid IMO. IIRC the average # for all GHIN members is around 15. I would hover around 20 when I played a couple times a month.
A future WOV outing would be nice if possible. I need to replace my irons. Sold my ping set, but have yet to replace them. I really should start playing again.
