Well including this week I'm seven weeks away from my Las Vegas trip. Typically my wife and I watch Las Vegas themed movies in the lead up to the trip. Movies like 'Fools Rush In', 'Oceans 11', 'Oceans 13', and 'The Hangover'. I've never seen 'Casino' although I've heard good things about the movie. Any other recommendations? We've seen the downer movies about Las Vegas too like 'Leaving Las Vegas', but feel-good is probably better to get us in the mood for the trip. 8-)

We've got a number of restaurant recommendations from people on the board. It looks like CUT for a nice steak, Marche Bacchus as an old favourite, we'll get to Tacos El Gordo probably for lunch, Mon Ami Gaby because people raved about the roasted chicken (sorry we're still not ordering the brussels sprouts), and the revamped Wynn buffet because we get a free buffet with our booking.

We've still got to decide which show to see this time.

I want to get some photos of the desert to print off and put up in the house. My reading on the web says an hour or two after sunrise or before sun set is the best time to photograph the desert. Red Rock Canyon is an obvious place to go, but would people recommend a drive to Valley of Fire State Park as well? Could people recommend an easy hike -- done in sneakers as I don't want to haul hiking boots -- in Red Rock Canyon?

The Canadian dollar took a nosedive over the last number of months such that $1 US is $1.42 Canadian. Yikes. I hope the Canadian dollar recovers somewhat before I buy my US dollars. Regardless we'll be curtailing our shopping in the US. On the flip-side, if my wife hits her first royal flush on that $0.50 JoB at TI then we'll be sitting pretty with the exchange.

Seven weeks still feels far away, but with the Super Bowl, Chinese New Year, and Family Day in February hopefully that month will fly by.

Move recommendations: Vegas Vacation, Con Air, Honeymoon in Vegas (there sure are a lot of Nicholas Cage + Las Vegas movies).

What is "Family Day"?

edit: The NCAA basketball tournament is around that time of year. Expect a crowd.

I stopped reading when you said you never seen casino. You are banned from thus forum until you watch that movie. It is an all time classic. Make sure you watch it unrated as it had the record for f bombs in a movie until wolf of wall street.

I don't know, but I can't wait for the new Bourne movie. Shooting of that has caused lots of problems on the Strip past couple weeks.

I totally agree with GWAE, casino is one of the best movies of all time in any genre.

Can we get a Mod to enforce a temp suspension for Spock until he watches casino?

You might want to look for promos that give you an incentive to exchange at the casino.

I forgot about 'Con Air' and 'Honeymoon in Vegas'. I've never been a big Chevy Chase fan, but we'll probably check out 'Vegas Vacation'.

Family Day is a statutory holiday in Ontario, but not all provinces/territories have instituted the holiday. Ontario has only had it since 2008. I think we were jealous that the U.S. had President's Day. 8-)

Looks like Nevada and Arizona have it too: Wikipedia's Family Day article

We just manage to avoid the crowds as we're there March 13-17. We should be in the air on the way home by the time things are getting really crazy.
