Does anybody have any bad experiences to share about crime in Vegas? I've been there countless times since '85 and have never had a problem. I'm always hearing horror stories about robberies in parking garages and elevators and even hotel corridors. I always feel very safe there, am I being naive? There are so many homeless people (we used to call them bums and drug addicts and winos) on the outskirts of the Strip and Downtown, crime must be an ongoing problem. Maybe I keep my head in the sand because I don't want to know..

Last year in a Downtown casino, I was shooting the breeze with a uniformed and armed casino security guard. I joked about what an easy job he had and he said I was supposed to think that. He said customers have no idea what goes on behind the scenes and how busy they really are. When they arrest somebody on the property, they don't cuff him and perp walk him thru the casino and down Fremont St. Their job is to do it so the customers have no idea whats happening. He wouldn't give any details, he said they're always busy and its a very stressful job.

Think for a minute...
Think of the famed statement by Willie Sutton: Because That's Where The Money Is.
Think now also of the massive influx of visitors, transient populations, transient victims ...
Would it not be a mecca for crime on that alone?
Now add in the massive prostitution and drug use situation. Page after page of "entertainers" who are "not an agency".
And then take a look at how whenever there is in fact a shooting in a casino the headlines soon fail to identify the casino by name and indeed the news story soon fails to name the casino at all.
Vegas has been described as Los Angeles with Casinos.
Gangs, drugs, prostitution. There is too much money floating about for there not to be a high crime rate.
