Was given a host for the first time

I am going to call the host for the first time in regards to a trip I booked myself and want to make one request in regards to the reservation on a comped room. Every trip I ask for a smoking room, sometimes I get it, sometimes they give me a room with a balcony. I want to ask my newly appointed host to ensure that I receive a smoking room. If my host is able to deliver on my request, what would be a good gift to give to her on a first meet? All ideas are welcome......

Cigars?

She might really like that if...... Nevermind, I forgot to think to ask her if she smoked.

Something from your hometown that not everyone could give her.

That is a great idea. Guess I need to start looking around for something that is good about central California.

Front desk is usually in charge of someone getting a non-smoking/smoking room, one king bed, 2 doubles, etc. Of course the host will take credit for "hooking you up". I think the only thing the hosts can override are room upgrades, and leaving fancy snacks in your room when you check in.

What I would do (I'm not completely sure of your play, but try it anyway) is to ask the host for a dinner comp. Don't have a place in mind, just ask for a comp and see what type of restaurant they write you a comp for. Based on that you can determine whether or not this host is willing to go to bat for you, or is just adding you to their client list.

IMO -- something unique/different. Not cigars or wine or a gift card or whatever. I like the idea of getting something from where you're from. Or lingerie. Women love that as a gift!

lingerie? I seriously hope you're joking. Definitely not an appropriate gift for a host or anybody you are not dating.
