Just a heads up that you can get 80 percent off at Restaurant.com with the code FUN. I just bought 85 bucks worth of certificates and paid only $7.80. These are good for at least a year and they're a way to sample locally owned places. I can't say enough about the site.

I've been on their mailing list for a couple of years. They are ALWAYS offering a promotion, as soon as one ends the next day you get an email about another one starting. They are usually anywhere from 40-80% off. I've never seen it when you had to actually play the full $10 price for a $25 certificate.

I've found even with the certificates I end us with a decent bill for places, due to the requirements that are placed on your ordering. A $25 certficate typically requires purchase of 2 dinner entrees. A $50 certificate often requires spending $100. Still a great site though.

These are good. I buy these every time I come to Vegas. My favorite one was for McCormick & Schmicks, where we got a full meal for two including shark and seafood risotto for less than $10 all/in including the cost of the certificate. Unfortunately, I don't think they offer that anymore. Other good buys are the restaurants at the Station casinos like Cabo, Guadalajara and the Broiler. They used to have Court Cafe at Joker's Wild and the cafe at El Dorado in Henderson which was good for cheap eats. Recently they have offered all the restaurants in Mandalay Bay. I bought StripSteak last time and it was good, but the price was still expensive even with the discount.

That IS a funny statement. Except nobody suggested anything about scrounging. And that statement implies finding and cutting coupons for things like 10¢ off milk.

That sort of thing is probably not worth the time it takes to scrounge for the coupon.

What is being suggested it a very manly thing. Surfing the internet, finding a restaurant to try, and whipping out a credit card to purchase the meal ahead of time at a bargain price.

I'm on board. And I'll remember to tip my server on the full price if I get good service.

I can't figure out how to get the super deal with the code FUN though

After you get to the checkout page, there is a box in the upper right where you enter the code.

So, that promo code works with the purchase of restaurant.com gift certificates. Can I then also use that code when I redeem the certificates?

as soon as I put in the code without upper case [g] it leaps into action and gave the discount upon purchase [at least I think I settled on why it didnt do it the first time]. You know instantly you did it right.

The best values seem to be $25 off a min. purchase of $35. Check retailmenot.com to get the latest discount code. The highest I've seen is 80% off.

My gf and I went to Village Pub (Ellis Island company) and both ordered steaks, but we still had to get dessert and a meal to go to hit 35. The total bill, including the 18% mandatory tip, was less than $20. I'm still finishing the leftovers. I won 20 bucks playing video blackjack at the bar, making the whole thing free.

You redeem the certificates at the restaurant...the code is only for purchasing them. The offers vary by the restaurant with some being better deals than others. However, as long as you meet the restaurant's purchase requirement, you will get $25 off the bill...for only $2.

I should have taken the time to re-read what I wrote. Wow, was that ever not clear. What I was trying to get at is that the "fun" discount works to buy gift cards for the website itself (click on the "give a gift" tab). So, I can get a Restaurant.com gift card for 80% off. (I did that this afternoon. Paid $3 for a $25 gift certificate to the website itself) When that card comes, can I use the "fun" code again and get 80% off of the restaurant-specific gift cards that I buy with my gift certificate to the website?

Let me run this through:

I paid $3 for a $25 gift card toward a future purchase at restaurant.com
I can now spend $25 at the website in the future
If I can re-use the promo code when I redeem my gift card, I can buy 8 $25 cards for $3 each with my gift certificate
I will have paid $3 for $200 worth of discount coupons.

Wrong.

The gift card gives you $25 of certificate value.

Overall I have been disappointed with restaurant.com, the selection of restaurants is pretty lousy in the SF Bay area, and like someone else said even with the $25 off the check still ends up being pricy with the requirements set forth. Auerole @ mandalay bay treated my restaurant.com $50 credit like a regular gift certificate, they did not add in any tip or take the certificate at time of ordering like most places do.

We've also used restaurant.com and when a restaurant THAT YOU LIKE offers $ 25 off $ 35, it's a very good deal. I think a lot of restaurants participate for a while and then drop out. I get my discount codes from a website that is called Workingadvantage.com, but I think your company has to sign up for it.

Also, does anyone have recommendations for RESTAURANT.COM
locations in Las Vegas ? There are lots on their website.

My criteria would be good food, an appropriate environment
for the family, and reasonable prices. We'll have a rental
car when we come out, so as long as it isn't way too far from
the Strip ( or Red Rock Canyon ), we could get there.

We're also thinking about going down to PRIMM for the outlet
mall there one day, and will be making a side trip up to Utah.

THANKS !

I don't know how old your kids are and what you consider good prices, but I like all of these places available on Restaurant.com. All are family-friendly.

NEAR STRIP

Hash House A Go Go (awesome)

Pasta Shop Ristorante (where the Michelin restaurants on Strip get their fresh pasta)

Florida Cafe

Tillerman

NEAR RED ROCK:

Chicago Brewing Company

Rampart Buffet (great value w/ or w/out coupon)

Osaka Japanese

King and I Thai

NYU:

Thanks for the suggestions. I may also try the following place,
it sounds interesting:

"Cafe Bleu at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Las
Vegas is a fine dining, student run restaurant that offers a
bistro style lunch menu and an a la carte dinner menu"..

It looks like is also out near the Red Rock area in Summerlin.
