I play for the game now. Years ago, we played to gamble and win--had to win, money grabbed from other designations. It was all wrong, no matter if we won or lost. If we lost it was disastrous and we had to grab other money or borrow to cover what the original money was for. If we won, naturally it was never enough. We were in AC/CT or Vegas every weekend and maybe a one night during the week trip also. It wasn't just us, it was everyone around us in the resultant business, adult industry as well as many other professions ancillary to those. Advertising people, attorney's, credit card processors, etc.

Since moving from the NY/NJ metro area in early 2002, I made trips back to AC as well as Vegas of course. The gambling slowed down and there was absolutely no desire to go to the local places where we lived. Now I go a few times a year or perhaps none (like 2014), doesn't bother me a bit. Sure I miss the action at times but don't jump on a plane or drive at a whim. I learned how to earmark the money for the bankroll and if it gone/lost, that is all good. If I win, it is spent or gets put away.

When I sit down, its great. I let loose, I enjoy and splurge. Doesn't matter where I am at, I play the game and soak it all in, doesn't matter if its a couple of hours or all night. I never felt this way before when I lived in NJ or NYC and frequenting the properties every week. All it meant was going to win, try to make some money. I always made very good money in NYC or North Jersey, it just that going to the casinos at the major venues was too much to resist.

I don't just gamble. I don't go alone and no desire to. My wife is always there and sometimes the kids. (we have the 2 and half year old as well as an 8 and a 9 you guys didn't see in the pictures from the trip to CP for Asian New Years) We do other things and enjoy many other things outside the casinos. Last trip to Disney in Florida cost us an easy $10k. The last trip to Vegas (although only with the baby) cost us only the airfare which was comp'd/awarded anyways with a Total Rewards gift card from Southwest Airlines, and we won money to boot. The baby had a blast at The Mirage Secret Garden, Mandalay Bay Shark Reef, Rides, seeing all the photo characters on the sidewalks and a whole bunch of other stuff.

When we go to the Tropicana in April, we will have a blast with the pool, spa, eating, drinking and splurging around town. We will do many other things and as well gamble. Good or bad, win or lose, we will have a great time and cherish it.

Like I said, even if we lose we still enjoy and do many other things. I can envision if we just went to gamble without doing anything else and lost, we would be miserable.

I am glad to hear from someone who has tasted the excesses of gambling and struck a balance for continued enjoyment. Many do not.

Sounds like you have a very mature gambling mindset, learned from years of experience.

Don't get me wrong, it is not easy to get up if I/we lost and there is that tempt to go pull more money. But we don't. My wife has not gambled as long as me but she is Asian (gambling blood and gambling know it all--coupled with supposedly happy wife happy life and women are never wrong) but I have been there and done that, too many times. If the BR is gone, it is gone. That is it, next time. And we reset, don't recoup or don't add up past trips. Receipts, expenses or gambling. Period, doesn't work for me or anyone I know. If it was a profession, maybe, but its not. I do well when I win and when I lose, I lost it. I seldom break even or win less than my BR. I did last time in Vegas but it was so busy with Asian New Year and the casinos so crowded coupled with problems with the baby not wanting to go to day care after the second night, I lax'd up on playing. Didn't bother me a bit. Still had fun.

Great narrative with a lot of perspective; thanks.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Thanks, I am working on the theme for the Tropicana outing in April. Going to cook a burger and get on it in a few.
