I have a question about blackjack math.

If the dealer has an ace and you know that hole card is a 10 (and thus buy insurance), what impact would that have on blackjack game's house edge? (assume a standard-ish multi-deck game with a normal HE of around 0.5%)

Thanks in advance.

I will feed into this. How would you 'know' the hole card is a face or a pip 10?? If you can see through cards, I would like to hang out with you in a casino.

If you can always buy insurance correctly it gives you about 2.3%

Theoretical-assume you have a marked decks that tell you either 'ten' or 'no-ten' for the hole card while insurance is still available.

The house edge would be decreased by about 2.4%, which for a 6-deck game is (0.5)(2)(24/312)(96/311). For example, for a blackjack game with a 0.5% house edge, using the hole card information just for the insurance bet would make the player's edge 1.9%.

Does one have to wear special colored lenses on the sunglasses to read those marked decks??

If you have a sloppy dealer you can catch the hole card. I've always been on the lookout for such an opportunity, but haven't been able to find one.

Does winning an occasional hand like this really matter in a game that it is so easy to lose 20-30 hands?? Unlike Baccarat you have to play every BJ hand or you are out. I can understand in the case of A of S because when he plays BJ the dealer makes like 25 blackjacks in a shoe, but otherwise I can't see the difference.

If one can tell the hole card is a 10 (pip or face) when the dealer has an ace, it stands to reason you can tell the same thing no matter what the dealer is showing up, thus changing basic strategy and greatly increasing the player edge.

Okay now apply it and make a fortune. I am sure it's never been done. A of S, please take note! Your missing the boat, this is really an ez game!!! I guess I never really saw the possibilities of this before.

Lots and lots and lots of dealers mis-handle their cards and expose the bottom card...

If the dealer gets 25 blackjacks in a six deck shoe I'm asking for my money back. You do not have to play every hand, not even in NMSE.

It really is an easy game, Makes card counting seem like a waste of time. The hard part is finding the opportunity. Hole carding has been done before, and the game gets milked until the opportunity is burned out.

It's like taking candy from a baby. Revel had a couple of weak dealers who I did very well against. Ridiculous hole card opportunities. Sorry Kevin, if I had only known that you were in such dire straits I would have gone easier on you. :-)

Reminds me of older days in the late 80's and 90's in AC. Dealers I knew from the floor would say that a lot.

I was playing at a place that had a machine call BJs (black mark on the corner of Ts) and the dealer checked before asking if we wanted insurance. The light went on, he paused, realized he didn't ask, and offered it. All of us, with the exception of one, took it. He pointed at his cards and asked if he was sure, because it's a really good bet, and the rest of us took it too, so there's probably some merit to it. The holdout basically called us all cowards and suckers. Fun ensues after the card is flipped open. =D
