Look at how many CLE credits lawyers can get in Asset Forfeiture Law.

A Texas Monthly journalist just did a rough audit of an asset forfeiture log, most of what they gave him was blacked out or buried in abbreviations.

The money is NOT kept by local agencies, it is returned to them as a bounty after processing but the amounts are substantial and clearly affects why there are so many local speeders passing a cop car that is following a vehicle with out of state plates. Cops know its harder for out of state drivers to fight a seizure and a consent will be easier to obtain.

Try carrying cash through an airport and you have a very likely chance of being harassed.

I've made quite a few flights from PDX to LAS, and each and every time I have a lot of cash in a bank envelope in my carry on. Never been hassled at all.

As if somebody going to or from Las Vegas wouldn't have a plausible excuse for packing cash with them.

I carry bottles and never get asked. Must
be something about the way you look. No
cop in my life has ever asked me anything
about anything.

So theres no need for you to hide it in a pill bottle then, it's probably a pain in the ass to get out. If someone looks old and disabled they probably don't suspect a dam thing. There are specific laws and harsher punishments when dealing with crimes against the elderly or vulnerable. Perhaps the cops know they should avoid making problems for seniors since it would get more attention and shame.

Never mind the cops, thieves target pill bottles. I posted a bunch of articles regarding this last time you suggested this bad Idea. You're among the few "special" people who think it's a good Idea.

I had my car searched against my will going to Niagara Falls Canada and coming back about 6-7 years ago. I admitted to having $400 in my wallet and $50 in the console. No reason for any of it. If you point a finger arbitrarily you'll be right sometimes and failed assumptions are free. Getting hassled isn't fun, wastes lots of time, and puts you at risk for nothing and no gain.

I always just let them search if they ask In my experience, if they don't find anything (I don't have anything to hide) they tend not to give you a ticket for the original reason they pulled you over.

Carry some cash on you in case of a hold up, never ever fight back.

American bicyclist in South America got cut off by a motorcyclist who flashed an automatic. The American knew the Spanish word for friend and so he kept saying Amigo because he couldn't comprehend why the hold-up man kept saying mustache in Spanish, he soon learned that the Spanish for Back Pack sounds like Little Mustache to an American.

I suppose I should've known there would be a site somewhere calling itself "fear.com" but I'm not seeing how the link to them documents a case of someone having to "prove otherwise" that it wasn't drug money. In fact, in ordering return of the money, the court seemed to have implicitly granted that the $200k in cash in her backpack at the airport very well may have been drug money being supposedly carried by her from NY to her enterprise at "Mike's Import and Export" in Miami, but even so:

The January 23 decision ordered return of the cash seized...

Quote: The 11th Circuit Court of the United States (as quoted by FEAR)

under the law, a claimant is under no duty to show that "the property derived from a legitimate source" until the Government first can establish probable cause of a substantial connection to a controlled-substance transaction.2 Allowing the Government to base probable cause on the failure to identify a legitimate source of the currency unlawfully reverses this burden. Stanfordís failure to identify the people who gave her the currency and to provide receipts is relevant to her ability to show a legitimate source or innocent ownership, but she is not required to make this showing until the Government establishes probable cause.

<SNIP>

Given the weakness of the elements presented, and the complete lack of evidence connecting the seized money directly to illegal narcotics, the Governmentís case falls short of the probable-cause line. This citizen can keep her property.

Not the door panels that's the first place they look after the pill bottles.
