I will occasionally pick up a scratch-off lottery ticket when going into the gas station, and I always scratch off the "results" areas of each line first to see if there are any winners. And if any line IS a winner, I'll then go back and scratch off the "prize" section to see what was won.
My infrequent ticket purchases have typically resulted in winning nothing, with an occasional ticket having a single line winner with maybe a $2 prize (or a free ticket).
However, the ticket I picked up last night actually has all 8 lines being winners (see pic below), which was a pleasant surprise and is a first for me. Ever the optimist, I'd like to think that surely a ticket with all winning lines would almost certainly have a correspondingly robust prize to go along with it!
I'm somewhat reluctant to go ahead and scratch off and reveal the "prize" sections, since I have a suspicion that I like the feeling of holding a ticket with a POTENTIAL value of $25,000 versus holding a ticket with an ACTUAL value of much less.
The minimum potential value of this ticket is $8, and the maximum potential value is $25,000. So I can average those two numbers and expect to win $12,504. That's how it works, right? ;)
I guess I'll ultimately find out.
So, each line has a prize and they can be different. Say, 6 @ $2, 1 @ $10 and 1 @ $25,000? Good luck.
Tell ya what. If you haven't scratched it yet, I'll by it from you for $100. ;)
I think the minimum would be $16. At least in NJ the minimum prize per line is the purchase price. Anything less is kinda douchey. And I'm not sure if simple averaging is the correct EV.Quote: blount2000The minimum potential value of this ticket is $8, and the maximum potential value is $25,000. Quote: 1BBI don't know much about lottery tickets but I'm wondering if this one would need some $ symbols for a top prize. I hope not for your sake.
this is what I was thinking as well
I have a $50 bid from the gentleman in the corner.
Do I hear $75? 75, 75?
$100!
I have $100 bid from the teddy bear in the front row.
Do I hear $150? Who will give me $150.
Come on folks, we know this is a winning ticket.
Who's going to be the lucky owner of this ticket?
$150? Am I bid $150?

I think the $ sign would be under the parts that have not been uncovered yet.
So 3 or $3
When you do decide to reveal the prizes, let us play along.
Scratch off one row, and post the pic.
Heck, this could even become a Deal or No Deal contest.
You could get new bids on the ticket after each prize row is revealed.
Surely your offers would change as each prize is revealed.

$25,000 | 3 |
$500 | 172 |
$100 | 3,927 |
"Count your chickens before your baskets" or something like that.

"Count your chickens before your baskets" or something like that.
I would guarantee that it is not 25k. The 25k would probably be on 1 line. Being that there are 8 winners they are most likely each $2, $5, or $10. I would guess $2 but would not be surprised if they are $5.
I don't think your thinking of a 12k average works since the prizes are weighted. Your line of thinking would be the same that if you walk up to a 25k top prize slot machine that you should project a win of 12k.

I'll definitely be happy to reveal the prizes one at a time and post the pics! Although I'm assuming folks are just joking about wanting to buy the ticket.
Miplet, the back of the card doesn't have a list or anything of what all prize amounts could be won.

I was serious about buying the ticket for $50 although redeeming it could be quite an expense if I have to go to Tennessee to collect.
I would gladly offer you $25 to split the ticket 50/50 and you handle redeeming it.

$25, $25 to be a co-owner.
Do I hear $50 ?
fiddy, fiddy, fiddy. Do I hear fiddy?
The first reveal could drive the cost up by 10x. Get in while you can.
Quote: blount2000Did I win $25,000? Doubtful, but I don't know yet since the prize has not been revealed.

Around here, there are self-service "check for winners" terminals... I scratch off the barcode area and scan it to see if it won.
One of my ex'es enjoyed the act of scratching off the obscuring layer far more than I do.

I don't know if this is applicable everywhere, but the scratch-offs here have three letter codes on them that will "spell" out the winning amount. Like FIV (5), TWF (25), FTY (50). Losers usually contain some combination of P, D, B, and Z. They are scattered around but usually down near the bar code.
Quote: onenickelmiracleMost likely you won $8. At least in Ohio, all total prizes are listed on the back, so you're almost guaranteed to win something divisible by 8 and guaranteed to not win $25000.
I doubt the lottery is going to waste eight $2 winners on one ticket. They would get more mileage out of eight scratch-offs winning $2 each.
My bet is there is at least one line worth >$100.
Quote: AxiomOfChoiceBets on the total value? O/U $39.50?
I think that's a fair line. I like the under, but just barely, not enough to wager on it.
If that's the case, I'm predicting a value of $22. Six $2 prizes, and two $5 prizes for good measure. I hope for the OP that it's more though, because that's a very remarkable ticket. If it was less than $30, I'd almost rather keep the ticket.

I like the idea of $25 to split the ticket 50/50, so that sounds good to me.
Please make a confirmation post if you are still willing to do that. If you've changed your mind and don't want to, no problem!
Also, I assume you are ok with the plan for me to reveal the prizes on here one at a time? If not, be sure to let me know.

I confirm that I will give you $25 to split the ticket 50/50. Just PM me your Paypal info or another method to pay you.
Feel free to unveil any way you would like.
Under!!!!Quote: AxiomOfChoiceBets on the total value? O/U $39.50?
I'll bet $30 on the under. Maybe we settle with an unscratched $30 lotto ticket.Quote: onenickelmiracleUnder!!!!
Quote: strictlyAPill book any amount up to 500 that its under 30 dollars
Are you taking the under or offering the under?
its a 30 dollar ticket
the 100 amounts and 500 are within one prize group of awards
meaning there are no 150 200 or amounts
you would never see a 100 win with a 2500 award as well
Is there a play there?
Quote: strictlyAPmy best guess is an absolute max of 100 at 4 20s and 4 5's but ive never even seen that
I have probably bought only two or three scratch off tickets in my life. Is it relatively common to have a ticket where each row is a winner?
Quote: strictlyAPill book any amount up to 500 that its under 30 dollars
I will take $30 or over for $30. Confirmed?
