To give you an idea of what I am talking about, this month, my primary mailer amount is $50 per week, or $200 for the month. In addition they have secondary mailer promos consisting of pulltabs on Fridays and Saturdays and a scratch card on Wednesdays. Obviously this is designed to get you into the casino 4 different times during the week and my partners and I oblige.
So, it is this pulltab promo that I want to share with you. The pulltab piece must be brought to the casino and the girls at the players club will open it. You can't open ahead of time. To give you an example of what we are talking about, my first three pulltab prizes last Friday and Saturday and yesterday were, $25 free play, $25 food credit and 12000 points, which is equivalent to $30 cash or free play.
So today when the girl opened my pulltab, I saw a sparkle in her eye and an immediate sly little smile. She showed it to the supervisor at the next counter spot and then said "congratulation, you have won $5000". I was pretty surprised. It has been a while since I won a prize or drawing of that value not associated with a gaming win. To be honest, I didn't even realize the prizes went that high.
As I was waiting to receive the check, it occurred to me that this is a strange way to do a pulltab. I mean the contestant, me, should have the joy and surprise of pulling the tab and seeing that prize, not some employee. I don't mean to complain. I'll take the money...lol. I have two partners, so all winnings go into the company pool, but I can't help feeling just a little cheated out of that 'winning moment' because the girl at the players club got to pull my tab.

While I understand your point, I would not mind feeling cheated in that regard one bit. Nice win, by the way!!!
Quote: kewljOne of my favorite local casinos is on the eastside of town (eastside <- that should give you a big hint...lol). This particular place is among the top two or three casinos in Vegas as far as mailers go (and one of the better kept secrets, so your welcome for that tidbit). In addition to their primary mailer listing you weekly free play amounts and food credits, they usually have 1 or 2 supplementary mailer promotions, which all told, usually more than double your primary mailer amount.

Well, as a fellow adrenalin junkie, I feel for you on that one, but only a smidgen. FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! WOOOHOOOO! NICE HIT!! ON A FRICKIN' FREE PLAY!!!
Did that help? lol...
I would guess it's a validation issue. Really good printers out there these days. And the thing came in the mail, so they don't know where it's been between you receiving it and bringing it in. Yeah, without seeing it, I guess they could validate it without opening it, then hand it back and watch you. But, hey...
FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!! etc.
Congrats! I hope you tipped Ms. Twinkle for her superlative ripping skills. lol

OMG, ya know what...I didn't. I did not even think of it. I do tip hand pay jackpots, although I kind of don't like the idea, but I go along, but I never even gave tipping the players club girl a thought. I probably will now tip her next visit. I'll have to give it some thought. (and please guys....let's not turn this into a tipping thread).
Or was that a non-gambling type of win, similar to a "hot seat" drawing?
Congratulations!
Quote: ten2winDid the win require the generation of a W-2G form?
1099-misc casino form.
Quote: geoffI'm not sure what you're complaining about. Usually getting a girl to pull my tab costs $5,000. Going the other way is a nice surprise.
Lol. Funny stuff, Geoff.

Well played indeed.
Quote: OzzyOsbourneNice hit Kewlj!!! Did you even appear excited or cheer or anything? I won a 2k the other day at VP and was like oh sweet and just played the next machine while the hand pay came and the people looked at my like I was a degenerate/trust fund baby. Every time I get a 4k royal I usually don't react either but I almost feel like I should so the people don't think I'm a weirdo. The other customers are always like AWESOME HIT!!! and it just feels weird to not react because the money is basically meaningless to my bankroll but that is huge money to some people.
I didn't react much to this because, I didn't see or participate in the win. Someone just said you won. My partner handles my machine play now, so I don't actually play, but in the past, I was excited to hit a Royal. I mean you hold 3 or 4 to a Royal and push the button and actually see the winning cards hit. You have participated in it. That was my point of this post. While I am happy to win, I feel like they took that excitement away from the player. I do understand in this day and age, with counterfeiting, but they could still let the customer open the pulltab in front of them, so the customer gets to experience that excitement. I am not really talking about myself here, as these things are somewhat routine for me, but I think the way they are doing it, they are denying the customer that 'excitement' factor and that is why most patrons visit the casino. Maybe I am wrong though. Maybe it is just about the money. ??
Plus, they want to bring people into the casino to see if they won. Most of the scratches are pretty worthless (I'd imagine). I wasn't able to make it to the store to let them scratch it for me, so I scratched it myself [since either way, I wouldn't be able to win]. I won something stupid like a free buffet on one and a free 1,000 points on the other! If it was the case where you scratch it at home then bring it to the casino to get your reward, I sure as hell wouldn't go there just for a free buffet or a free 1K points!
Anyway, nice hit!

I think that this is exactly it. You won't show up just for a crappy prize, but you will show up for a shot at a good prize, and, either way, while you are there, you will probably play a bit.
