We all see them on the table. You see 50-1. 40-1. 35-1. And think, boy I think I could hit that. But you know its a bad bet. And you still do it anyways. Maybe not always.
I guess that is why they call it gambling.
So then...
What is your favorite, just can't pass it up, side bet that you play?
Have you won anything big?
Did you have one before that you gave up on?

My favorite that I have played the most consistently is probably the "Match the Dealer" bet in Spanish 21.
I throw a buck on it, I have had good sessions, I have had bad sessions. I have had that single bet keep me in the game.

FireBet in craps is the only side bet I regularly bet. If you can't put up one lousy buck for the duration of the shooter...

I like to bet $2 as a two-way hard 8, 6 or the points (if it's 4 or 10) as soon as a point is established. It's a modest risk and most dealers really warm up to me when I do it. I repeat later in the session once or twice more. If neither hits, I still tip them something.

When playing PGP I'll make a $1 dealer wager on one of the side bets, betting $5 myself. I get similar results win or lose.

I ALWAYS in poker put the extra dollar in when I'm small blind, after everyone limped 6 handed, with 45 suited ;)

I like to bet on Buster Douglass when he's a huge 45-1 long shot in heavyweight title bouts. It's worked out ok so far.

I've never played a traditional side bet. Not ever.

The one side bet I've contemplated was on Pai Gow. I saw the huge odds, and thought "It's only a buck. What's the harm?" Of course, I had to continue thinking... "But it won't just be a buck. You won't do it once. You'll lose and want to try again. And then you'll lose that and want to try again. You'll almost certainly stop after $4 or $5, but you will spend $4 or $5. So, you could toss that $5 on a 1,000 : 1 shot, which you know you're gonna lose, or you could spend $5 and definitely have another cold, frosty beer".

Beer > most things. Thanks beer, for keeping me a smart gambler ;)

And it's not technically a side bet, but long odds on NASCAR races when they're at a SuperSpeedway. At 15:1 to 30:1 odds, it's sort of like a side bet. But I think there's value in these bets (says the guy with no math skills whatsoever)

I can usually stay away from the sucker bets. I will occasionally throw some money on the hardways, usually for the crew. But I have been known to throw in a green chip, all the hardways, 2-way on the point. Yeesh. I always forget how high the edge is on those bets until I look it up again!

Even when I'm in this reckless mode, I usually don't keep the bets up there roll after roll after roll like some people. I really need to stop betting them at all.

I'm a sucker for the PGP Fortune bet. Won't play a hand without it. And on Tuesday, after 21 years of playing this game, I FINALLY got a Royal Flush at 150:1. Not just any royal, either. A Natural royal. With a pair. Best hand ever. And they wouldn't let me take a picture of it. <sniff> :)
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I wont play Pai Gow Poker without the Fortune bet either. I have been playing for 20+ years also, and have hit the royal at least 10 or 12 times. I guess I put more hours in than you. About a year and a half ago I finally hit 5 aces. Have yet to hit the 7 card straight flush, but I have seen it hit twice, once with joker and once without.

7 card straight flush progressive in Arizona is currently at like 400k. 5 aces pays 10% of that. I just want to hit it once.

at our site that means it never happened [j/k]

not counting bets I make for dealers, I more and more often end my Craps session with a $1 bet on the Yo, intending to parlay if it hits.

Big deal, eh? well, if it wasn't for that kind of stuff, I would be saying the same thing Face did - sucker bets a "never"

Two bets I always have on the craps layout. A $3 fire bet and a $1 hard way bet which has to be parlayed twice before I even think of collecting!

I have won a $750 payout on the fire once and I managed to parlay a hard 6 twice without any success on hitting the 3rd time :)
