Quote: KonbuI'm in. Please confirm time is still 10am?
I think that post confuses the thread. You're in for Spring Fling on Saturday or for a hike on Sunday? The times are different.
So I believe I will be playing after lunch. Glad there are several interested.
My father passed at 7:20 PM today at home and peacefully. He had a good life and was ready to go when he did.
The impact of all this will still take a while to sink in. I think I'll go for a walk, in the rain.
Have a good time tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you at noon and wish I could be there.
Life is short. Live it well.
If you need to talk, you know how to find me.
I'm glad you were there with him the last several days.
I've lost both of my parents.
Its tough at first but time does heal these kind of things.
Hang in there.
Life is short, yes, live it well.
Hmm, time to book my next Vegas trip.
I hope you guys had a good time today. I'm eager to hear more about it.
I'm hoping to return home Tuesday morning, after my brother in Michigan comes down. If there are any stragglers who would be up for a mid-week lunch let me know. Maybe to check out the new casino where the Barbary Coast used to be.
Turn right onto calico basin road. Its before the entrance to red rock canyon. Don't go into the first parking lot that's paved but instead turn right. Then take a left at the next road. Then take a right at the next road. And when you get to the end you will see a gravel parking lot. Pull in there.
We opened the lunch with a toast by SooPoo to the memory of Mike's Dad and missing friends, then discussion ranged from jobs to gambling to hiking to funny stories. After lunch, I conducted the trivia contest; pens were at a premium but a couple of people were kind enough to share, so we managed. However, lots of blank answers; this year's trivia was much harder than the September contest, all agreed. The winner was Aces&Eights, with 8 correct; tiebreaker was not needed. My tablet software does not permit paste that I've found, so perhaps Mike will post the Q and A 's for the forum's amusement, or once I'm home Friday I will put it up in the thread.
We then went looking for craps. SooPoo and A&8 found a quick PGP table while the rest of us sorted it out; turned out the 2 very full craps tables were it for the afternoon; the third would not be opened until that evening. However, they invited us to step next door to the California, where they had 8 craps tables running. We lost a couple of folks to other commitments but the rest made the trip, where we found 7 1/2 very full craps tables. Turns out this is the weekend for the legendary Golden Arm tournament (taking place today) so everyone was in town warming up for it.
We took over the mostly vacant end of the last tub, a 10 dollar table. And, after a slow but promising start, proceeded to make a run for the ages. Konbu had a 29 hand, followed by SooPoo with a 29 hand, and rdw with a 14 hand. Doc had previously had a hand around 15 also, Mr. V shot well; Aces did not have any great runs but was there for the money runs. Nareed and I did not shoot. Everybody that was shooting walked away with hundreds more than they came in for. Literally. I made 300, and I was the least bettor of all of us; it was fantastic dice!
We had a happy trails parting around 4, with possible plans to meet back up today at the Rio for PGP or craps again; we'll see how that plays out. Great to meet everybody. We missed you, Mike; thanks for setting up the event, and our thoughts were with you; we gave your dad credit for the good runs.

Missing friends? Did I miss something?
Mike, my condolences.
Whaaat?!! I swear to God I am the curse for craps at all WoV gatherings. But then again, we did go on a nice run at Meadows in Pittsburgh, so maybe things are turning around...? Congrats!Quote: beachbumbabs

Nareed had plans to meet NicksGamingStuff (whom we haven't heard from around here in a very long time), for dinner and invited us to join them. My wife, rdw4potus, and I accepted, and Konbu hung with us for the afternoon, though he had other commitments for dinner.
We walked Fremont St. and eventually made our way over to the Downtown Grand, where everyone but my wife and I needed to collect a souvenir chip.
My wife played the Avatar slots, the other three played Pai Gow poker, and I played some more craps for a second (though much smaller) winning session for the day.
Konbu departed the group, then the rest of us walked to the Plaza to meet Nick and have dinner at the Hash House. Food was good, and portions were huge -- my wife and I shared an entree, and neither of us could finish our half.
After dinner we again searched for a craps table with some room. No luck at the Plaza or Golden Gate, but they did have room for us at the Golden Nugget. Nareed watched while rdw4potus and I played. We were up pretty good for a while, then took a downspin, stopping while still slightly positive -- my third of the day.
After that, there were more splits, and my wife and I headed back to the Rio. I played one more craps session before bed, coming out a whopping $15 ahead. Four winning sessions in a day is something I could grow to like. That makes 11 out of 14 for the trip!
Looking forward to seeing folks again today.
Quote: rudeboyoiReached the summit of kraft mountain. Konbu, acesandeights, and my roommate and his dog are here. We headed up the face. And made an entry in the journal at the top to honor mikes dad.
Way to go, reaching the summit! Apparently the real SooPoo didn't make it as planned. Unfortunate.
At lunch on Saturday, I planned to take a group photo to post. I forgot about it until the group was breaking up. Ahigh and his son Tony had already left, and everyone else was standing and ready to head out the door. I snapped a couple of quick shots -- don't think they will be very good, but I will post them when I get home.

You may want to make sure everyone in the photo want it posted. I know some people are a little over sensitive about that stuff.
Glad to hear all had a good lunch and especially a winning session at craps!
You truly don't know how great your city is until you haven't been around for a while!
Rudeboi, we are on for a hike and some golf when I get back!!!

I'm down! Except maybe for the golf part. I have no idea how to even swing a club lol.

Forget about the golf....let's go hiking!!! :)

Yep, I am probably paranoid given my relatively mid-level stakes, but I tend to chronicle a bit too much of my gambling habits on this forum, so I'd rather not have a face associated with my handle.
Quote: rudeboyoiSo Saturday I spent 10hrs moving 5.5 truckloads of heavy heavy furniture for a friends family into a new house. And the two days before that, me and my roommates moved our stuff from one apartment to another. I was aching horribly all over today but still managed to summit kraft mountain!
Thanks so much for offering to lead the hike despite the sore legs! I had a great time escaping the madness of the strip for a few hours to enjoy nature and get some exercise. Also, in a not-that-crazy coincidence, rudeboyoi's roommate grew up in the same area where I live now and was familiar with a lot of the casinos I frequent at home (I think he worked at one of them, although I don't remember for sure).
Made it home this morning and am typing this from my desk at work where I am catching up on email and returning to reality. I had a great trip all around; had my biggest winning trip to Vegas in 9 tries! I won way, way, waaaaaayyy over expectation for my paltry 7 hours of green chip counting, but I "had it coming" given that my last 4 sessions at home were all disastrous (I know I don't actually "have anything coming," but it's nice for the swings to even out in the positive direction). Also won at craps yet again (thanks to the meetup session and a big roll I made for myself at the Cromwell), so my lifetime win is getting safer and safer! Especially since I actually controlled myself fairly well this time and kept my craps bets low, and my -EV pretty small compared to my +EV at blackjack.
Always good to catch up with everyone - I may write up a detailed trip report in a blog post, although I still have my notes from WoVCon /// that I never converted into a full trip report...

I think it was SOOPOO who said "Imagine how much Teddy would have won if he had been here..." Although, the Cal only offers full double odds (2.5 on the 6/8), which SUCKS! I think it was the first time in my life I had played at a craps table with worse than 3-4-5x odds. With the big rolls we had, we all would have raked in even more at MSS or any reasonable craps table...but, at least we found a spot for all of us.
I would not want to be posting my Pic up on a forum. Its not like I'm trying to hide, like some guys, guys who no one ever actually meets in person, because they hide at home behind their monitors.Quote: AcesAndEightsYep, I am probably paranoid given my relatively mid-level stakes, but I tend to chronicle a bit too much of my gambling habits on this forum, so I'd rather not have a face associated with my handle.
Its one thing meeting up with someone in person or attend an event. At least your now on the same playing field, you see them, they see you. But randomly posting your picture online where people are always arguing and acting bat sh*t crazy seems not smart. Probably not a good idea people knowing who you are, but you not knowing who they are.
Please accept my belated condolences. I had not checked this thread in a while. I lost my father 10 months ago too. He had cancer but they were calling for 6 to 12 months. He took a down turn and was gone within a week. It is hard to lose them so fast, but in the end, it is a much more humane passing, and I am grateful it happened as it did for our family.
My wish is that you too may also find peace in your loss.
