Scam at walmart and other retailers/supermarkets

In the SF news on TV they talked about a scam in busy retail parking lots,

in this case it was a middle age woman with an older woman who wait for a car to back out of a parking space.

The younger of the 2 bangs the side of the car, and the older one lays on the ground

O my god you hit my grandma

I have to bring her to the hospital.....I need money...if you dont have it...go to the ATM.

They target older people who can be intimidated....usually older people who travel alone

When someone stands up to them and says they are calling the police...they leave and go to the next parking lot in town.

my advice....just be aware

Like I said before other then a sale or good deal. NOTHING good ever happens at Walmart

I'd go get the money if they were interested in 35 MPH. The second they want cash you know something is wrong and can confidently just walk away.

since it also happened at safeway, target, Best Buy, Kohls, Albertsons,...i would guess you stay at home and rock back and forth paralyzed knowing you need to stay away from big parking lots....not just walmart

This con has been around for 75 years, what's old
is new again.

You are way off base if this is directed at me. If you read the I love Walmart thread, you will see I go to Walmart all the time, I like Walmart for its value. I am an extrovert so people or things like this don't scare me. I might even play along and stall them till the cops arrive. I see people scamming there all the time. Most of the time its the, I just ran out of gas scam. I will even listen to someones speech for a second, because I will often get people asking me to buy their Walmart cards for 50% off, I say, yes please, can you get me more?

fair enough...but if you can extrapolate to walmart from this scam...that "nothing good" ever happens there////I am saying that the same could be extrapolated to safeway, best buy, target etc.

The Walmart gift cards became huge when Walmart quit giving cash for returns without receipts. There are actually crews running Walmart shoplifting scams and they are paying the shoplifters about 20% of retail for shoplifted items.

I would have told them:

"Hold on, let me finish off Grandma..."
