Can anyone who has worked on a slot floor elaborate on what happens when a slot attendant is short at the end of a shift? Say they overpay a handpay a couple hundred thanks to those new, sticky 100s? :) but :(

The cashier probably made a mistake paying the attendant, so probably responsibility goes back to the cashier.

The slot attendant gets hand pays already madeup by the cashier.

No opportunity for cheating, certainly not on a regular basis.

It was a really weird hand pay because she had money left in her hand when she finished counting it out to me.

As long as it doesn't come out of her check I'm fine with it.

I'm not 100% sure it really is the case (but I'm pretty sure) so I'll just accept it as part of the ebb and flow of mistakes in both directions.

I am not familiar with labor law in all 50 states, but everywhere that I am familiar with it, it is illegal to take out money from an employee's paycheck for a mistake. This means breaking something, or being short on your cash drawer, or your table running out of the restaurant without paying the bill. None of that "comes out of her check."

I'm confused, did she count the money out and still give you extra you weren't supposed to get?

I would be surprised by that. If she didn't, she probably gives the excess back to the cashier who may have to count down the drawer for screwing up.

Otherwise...

Most likely the attendant went to the cashier with the paperwork for the handpay. The cashier paid the attendant the amount. If the attendant paid the customer and money was left over then the cashier probably overpaid the attendant. This would create a shortage for the cashier.

If the attendant stood there with the extra money in hand she most likely took it back to the cashier. Maybe even called surveillance and asked for a review to check to see if too much money was paid out. It would all get settled there.

If the attendant kept the extra money then the cashier would be short. Some places give points to cashiers based on how much they are over/under. Once they get to so many points they get a few days off without pay or termed.

If she had extra money why would they take it out of her check? What am I missing? are you thinking the cashier over payed the slot attendant and the attendant pocketed the money?

This make me think back years ago when I worked for a casino. A trusted long time employee, She was a older, well kept change person( 60'ish) She was liked by most of the management. She had been there the longest, defiantly over 10 years. She had the best shift, best days off and even some clout. She was a bit territorial and a stickler on rules(she annoyed me). I felt she was a bit of a hustler, but most of the women were in that department.

One day she just disappeared during her lunch break, no one knew where she was. Eventually management went and checked her bank and it was cleaned out 3k-5k at most. There was robbery and kidnapping talk flying around.

She returned to work the next morning. The police showed up and took her out in handcuffs.

Turns out, she said her son was in trouble and needed a large sum of cash, so she took all the money in her change bank and went to the Stardust. Her plan was to win the money she needed for her son, during her lunch break, then return the money she "borrowed" from her change bank.

In some places the slot attendants have wallets, so they don't go to the cashier to get the money.
