I assume football will probably get the most votes since it's the most popular sport in the US, but I'm curious to see which of the less popular sports people watch.
I'm finding it hard to even watch NASCAR anymore especially now that Montoya's gone, and the only one I did watch all last year was in person. I'm still pumped for the 24 Heures du Le Mans, and might take a peek at some of the ALMS runnings, but it's losing its lustre. Le Mans is the only thing all year I'm actively looking forward to.
I finally watched a whole game of football this year, and couldn't believe I actually enjoyed that stuff at one point. Its "boring level" is approaching that of baseball.
Number 1 Olympic Track and Field
Number 2 all other Olympic sports involving true amatuers going for the gold simply for country and the love of their chosen sport.
Number 3 Womens college basketball. Amatuers that are true student/athletes. Its shocking that on the Mens side, alot cant even read.
Quote: terapinedAll those sports are nice to watch but are not even close to what I consider my favorite viewing sport.

All of hockey, freestyle skiing, and snowboarding are pros. Not sure if you didn't know, or just don't like these sports.
Which is fine, I love curling, too =)
Oh yeah, lots of curling soon.

I love Olympic hockey. You fight, you get thrown out. I never watch NHL due to the goons.
Bigger rinks mean skill skaters more valuable then goons.
Alot of pros in the Olympics but also alot of true amatuers.
Untill you watch the Olympics, Dont know where the great stories will come from.
That USA girl that won gold in Tak won do(probabbly spelled wrong) overcame molestation by an old coach to win gold.
Amazing story. Competed for love of sport and country , won gold, true amatuer. I love these sports stories.
There are so many when it comes to the Olympics.

Quote: Zcore13I voted Boxing/MMA, but by linking them together I think you are doing MMA an injustice. Almost all former boxing fans are disgusted with the history of fixing fights, corrupt promoters, tomato can match ups, etc, etc, etc. MMA (UFC specifically) is way more popular and relevant than boxing these days.

I have more faith in honest results from the WWE than MMA !

Quote: ontariodealerhorseracing.....as for olympic hockey, I'd rather stick a fork in my eye and have frank stanton over to my house than watch this soccer on ice.
Ah, you must be a real Canadian =)
I, too, much prefer North American hockey over European and Olympic hockey. Anyone who doesn't "get" fighting in hockey, why enforcers are a critical part of the game, are missing out on one of the most beautiful aspects in modern day sports.
That being said, I can still appreciate Olympic hockey. Even though I hate the open ice and all the dancing, fancy players it produces (See: All European players), I can respect it for what it is - a showcase of talent. It's sort of like watching the old IROC series racing; it's not "right", but it's still pretty cool. It also interests me to see how one plays defense when one can't...well, play defense.
Of course, I also watch figure skating, so there's that =p

That is one of the least factual and ridiculous articles I've ever seen on MMA. The writer is a complete moron.

Quote: 1arrowheaddrThe problem with the Olympics is that many events are shown on tape delay in the US.
The problem with watching the Olympics is the damn network broadcasts.
They get so wrapped around the axle with giving you the life history of an athlete, that they end up showing 20 seconds of the freaking event.
All networks bidding on the Olympics should be required to provide an Event Only channel, where they are not allowed to do any bullshit. Just shown the stinking events.

Totally agree, I don't give a crap about some figure skater's whole life story. All the women I know eat that stuff up though. They love the personal profiles for the athletes and get all enthralled with their lives. I could never understand that.

Why watch the Olympic network broadcast?
There is tons shown live on the internet, No stories, just great competition. All live.
I watched a ton of live events on the internet.

I like t watch hockey on TV but in person it leaves alot ot be desired. In football I can have fond images of a long run for a touchdown, a long arching pass downfield, in basketball I can sit in the stands and appreciate a long arcing 3 pointer from the corner to win a game, In baseball I can sit in the stands and view a majestic homerun or someone running the bases to score and avoid a tag. But I have sat in the arenas watching hockey where everything happens so fast, the only way I know there is a score is that I see a goalie looking behind him, a bunch of players raising their arms, and a siren going off. In fact I am convinced that fighting is so popular in hockey because its the onlything that is slow enough to take in. It looks like its in slow motion compared to the game.
On tv its a great sport to watch. Especially if u get to see the score in slow motion..because even on tv you can easily miss it the first time.
In the survey I picked hockey....but that is for tv viewing.

And yet the facts speak for themselves.
I like Olympic Hockey better than the NHL version because the bigger rink opens it up more. I can't watch NHL unless I am with a group watching it.
Baseball? Sorry, can't "watch" it but enjoy having it on in a bar or otherwise in the background.
I actually like women's curling. Really.
And I like Olympic sports that are not in the mainstream that you might not otherwise watch.
Coming from an African country I love both cricket and rugby equally as TV viewing sports but I must say I'm much more of a Track and Field kinda guy. Golf is up there especially the majors or any tournament my friend Louis Oosthuizen is competing in.
I'm looking forward to the Winter Olympics as just the sheer competitive spirit of people makes me want to watch in awe and wonder!

I totally agree. A lot of these sports I only follow once every 4 years. But once every 4 years, My eyes are glued to Track and field, swimming races, wrestling, judo, volleyball, fencing, handball, table tennis, water polo, skiing, bobsled, speed skating ect.
I only follow these sports during the Olympics.
I've also watched Olympic curling, a lot of strategy.
A lot of great sports drama at the Olympics.
For many athletes, there is no next year, its a once in a lifetime opportunity for many athletes.

The average person may laugh at table tennis, but once you watch Olympic-caliber players, you really start to appreciate how much skill & athleticism is involved.

Where do you often sit?
The absolute BEST seat in the house is center ice, all the way up by the roof. Since the arena is so small, you can never get too far away, and being up there gives the best angle for viewing. Sitting in the 100's is only good for trying to get your drunken mug on TV. The glass, other drunks, bench/penalty box, all block everything out.
I don't think playing it for so long gives me any advantage, but I never have problems following the action. Even when I stream from a sketchy source and the pic is grainy, knowing what's going on is never an issue.
Do you actually watch the football, or do you watch the players? Same concept. Stop trying to focus on the little black dot ;)

I agree. Ariel Hsing rocks. She almost beat China's eventual gold medal winner Li Xiaoxia in the Olympics. Incredible match. China would have totally freaked if their best player in table tennis lost to an American teenager. A young teen at that. Bill Gates flew to London just to watch that match.
Quote: FaceLove that the number two spot is held by hockey. Proof that this is indeed the most well educated forum on the intertron.
But then again, Bigotball is in 4th place ahead of basketball. lol
She is a national treasure. Being friends with both Bill Gates and Warren Buffet doesn't hurt, either.Quote: terapined

Over the last 10 years I have gone to 3 Sharks games each year. I sit all over the place, whereever I can get tix as the place is sold out all the time and I go with friends that like to get liquored up and watch the game while I dont drink at all. A great designated driver I am.
I like to go for the general experience, but it does leave me wanting as shifts change ever 30 seconds, I have no idea who is on the ice at any given time, have no clue who scored the goal till they announce it. I am not interested in fighting, in that if 2 players fight, and both go off the ice....one team is going to have an advantage. Rarely are the 2 players exactly equal. And I think the game be decided by play on the ice...and not fighting. In fact the league could get rid of fighting easy....Dont send the players off the ice....just fine them20k. This way one lesser player trying to goad a better player into a fight will be hurt where it counts...in the pocketbook. They already do something similar for blatant injury inflicting penalties where suspensions and loss of income occur. If someonbe gets a clean punch they can break someones jaw.....I am waiting for someone to get hurt like that and claim "assault" Because there is no team sport that allows one player to haul off and punch someone in the face while the game is stopped.
Anyway, I would rather watch hockey on TV
He has retired from Championship play, but is known to hustle games in Las Vegas.
He is also an ETTA Level 3 coach.
And NO, his name is not Mickey !

I watched Ann Wolfe as much as I could. I honestly believe if she fought the right man she would have won. She was scary.
