Making the plans for the flight home to Windsor for the holidays again. Flying the week before Christmas from Alberta to eastern Canada you need to have hit a royal or two to pay for it. Same goes for the return flight back west before New Years eve. Basically its about $1300 round trip at this time of year on AIR CANADA

So last year I refused to pay the insane rates and figured how to get my flight home cheaper

Calgary to Vegas ( short stay there ) Vegas into Detroit

Same way this year BUT last years trip has opened up some very nice doors

Hotel is comp at Paris where I stayed last year... plus enough gambling bucks from them to cover the airfare there and my car rental . Add to that the offer from PALMS and is a bonus of $150 in gambling and $50 in meals

I always book with DOLLAR car rental at the airport ( I have account)<< that's a must as you bypass the normal line to get your car... head right out to pickup area and all is waiting for you in the EXPRESS LANE... last year it was like 5 minutes to be in my car and heading for the exit

Today I looked to book a car for the three days there and the rates were a little higher than last year UNTIL I looked to the very bottom of the listed cars where the price is usually around $100 a day .... special on MUSTANG CONVERTIBLES $27 a day!!!

Now all we can hope for is warmer weather than last years trip

I paid $34 for a 15 day bus pass. A tad inconvenient but can't beat the price. Best of all, I sold it at the airport for $8 before coming home.

What hours do they run?

On the 'Stang, are they all sticks or do they have automatics? I can't drive a stick.

they are all AUTOMATIC

I also carry a rider on my car insurance at a cost of $25 a year so I do not need the insurance of $25 a day ..also many credit cards cover that insurance too

Anybody here used "Firefly," Hertz's new economy car rental product? Just booked it for Vegas. Am curious.

It was still good for a full week. Well worth $8 to someone.

I would have happily paid $8 bucks for it.
