He told you he was giving you a warning. Yet you did this:
"I explained to him that I was merely getting out of his way and I wasn't close to cutting the truck off."
So you have drug evidence and cash in the vehicle,
and you decide to talk him out of a fricking WARNING?
And you don't see what's wrong here?
Unreal.

I think the point here Bob is that he had NO CAUSE to search the damn vehicle in the first place.

No problem, no Suspension because I didn't think offensiveness was the intent. We have a very high Google rating, so I just don't want us to be one of the top hits in a search for that term.

This was a rental car, it could have been there from anybody. Do you figure that Treetop is some sort of Drug Lord? OMG, Treetop is a bigger baddie than Walter White!

I've left things (sunglasses, etc) in rental cars before. Imagine the feeling of realizing that you'd left your $30k in the car when you turned it in!

Rentals are always cleaned thoroughly to avoid just this
kind of thing. You're also expected to check the thing
before you take it out.

Yep, you believe the dude making minimum wage cleaning the vehicle did a thorough job. You believe that the cop was well within the bounds of the law.
Hey, I have a bridge to sell you.
Quote: treetopbuddyhe was simply looking for a reason to pull me over.
You keep repeating this, yet you keep leaving out the part about the cope letting you off with a warning. *headshake*
You never responded to my previous post either.

I've found garbage, change, receipts, sunglasses (yay! to replace the ones I left! see above), etc. in many cars that I've rented. And that's just in the cab. I'd bet just about anything that $30k under the tire in the spare tire compartment would make it the lifecycle of the rental without being found by the cleaners.
Are you sure you weren't giving off that peculiar odor
that less than truthful people sometimes give off?

Cool. He has a defense, the money and drugs weren't his.
I bet they never heard that before.. He's sure to get the
money if he claims it wasn't his in the first place.
Quote: treetopbuddyLook Rush he never intended to let me off with a warning. .
Then why did he say it? You don't make sense.

How would you know? You were too busy trying to explain "that I was merely getting out of his way and I wasn't close to cutting the truck off".
I still say that there's a bunch of stuff you've left out of this story.
She misses curfew by a few minutes. I make a short comment about her being late.
She can say "Yes dad, I'm sorry." -or- she can choose to argue.
When she argues, things end badly for her.

I agree, the way it's told it makes no sense. Who tries
to talk their way out of a warning? Who talks to a cop
at all with that kind stuff in the vehicle? Never mess
with somebody when they doing they're job. Don't
tell a bartender how to make drinks, don't tell a baker
how to make bread, and don't talk to a cop ever, unless
they ask you a question.
How not to get your ass kicked by the police! (I love 2:03...lol)
Anybody that thinks a cop needs a reason to pull you over, has never been pulled over for a DWB.
I used to work 4 to Mid in Denver. Almost every night on way home on West Colfax, I would see cars pulled over. Usually because they just left a bar and forgot to turn the lights on. One night Josie and I had been to a rock concert and were driving home at about 1 AM. This cop car dropped in behind Josie in right hand lane. I told her not to get nervous but expect to get pulled over.
Josie drove carefully for 5 blocks. Then when she made a right hand turn onto Kipling, the lights came on and she was pulled over. Cop checked license and registration, shine flashlight inside car, went back to cop car to run info. Then came up and told Josie he pulled her over because she made a wide turn, but he was not going to give her a ticket. Wide turn, MY ASS.
4 lanes on Kipling and a 2 feet wide cobble stone gutter, next to the intersection. Just an average turn and less wide than 95% of drivers.
Hope you can stand $35K loss. If you file a claim that envelope might come back with traces of cocaine. Or the $100 bills might come
back honestly with traces of coke.
Quote: PuckerbuttYou emphasize that he pulled up beside you and took a look at you before flashing his lights. Do you think you have a "look" that increased the probability that he would pull you over?
The look was so the cop could testify on the stand that you looked nervous, or pretended not to notice him, or whatever story that particular judge liked to hera, Cops testify so much, they have it down to a science. He didn't react like a person would, he seemed to be overacting to me, his demeanor was not like most people in that circumstance, whatever !

OMG! My side hurts from laughing..
1) you did nothing to brake the law nor cause suspicion therefore why the search?
2) Rental vehicle. Piss on that you can claim you knew nothing about the container smelling of Marijuana. Do not claim that container what ever you do!!
3) I am sure you have valid records as to where the 35k came from as proof that is your $$$, the container was already in the car when you rented it you just happened to choose to store the 35k in there . It is America we can do that.
You done nothing wrong. You are an American citizen, fight the hell out of this & make the courts pay you 35k + for illegal search & causing you tremendous grief resulting in you having to seek medical attention for the stress & anxiety as a result of this incident as well as causing you to miss an event of a lifetime of your nephew being born, something you can put no cost on .
But 35K or a felony ?

Yeah, that's one of his best skits. :D
what he saw?
The story has a ring of truth about it to me.
And the reason the cop suspected drugs was ? ? ?
Single male, rental car, middle of nowhere ( Kansas ), what the hell, I might get lucky !
Your lucky it was Kansas and some of the highway revenue collector's still have some decency.
You are lucky to be alive.
With the militarization of the police, we are now the enemy.
Any rights we may have had prior to the NDAA are now suspended.
I know they have remote readers in the airport that can instantly tell them how much cash you are carrying by reading the magnetic strips in the bills but not sure what the range is on them. Just like the credit card readers thieves use to read what's in your wallet. Maybe that is why you were pulled over?
Before a retort here, shoot the message not the messenger.
Quote: BuzzardOh sure, I would admit the drugs were mine. LOL

The trick is denying the drugs while claiming the money:-)
Quote: rdw4potusThe trick is denying the drugs while claiming the money:-)
Classic illegal search and seizure. Cops usually don't do that if they think their fingers will be slapped.
I repeat " 35K or a felony ". Tough call.
Isn't it nice that if you are arrested and case is thrown out of court as totally bullshit, you have to sue to get your arrest record cleared.
And some states you can not even do that !
Quote: rdw4potusThe trick is denying the drugs while claiming the money:-)
Sure, that's not drug profit money officer. That was my payment for being a hitman. Problem solved. Now let him find the persons you murdered. That's harder to prove than just pinning drug money on you. : )
Difficult but not that hard, as DNA results are showing. Usually a jail house snitch is all that's needed.
Quote: BuzzardHey, this is Kansas, but still. They have unsolved murders just waiting to be solved.

this has to be a record. He has yet to explain why
he had drug paraphernalia and a large amount
of cash in the car. Whatever the reason, there's
a -0 chance of ever getting the money back.
They gave the info to the DEA for sure, so this
ride ain't over yet. Lawyer up is my advice.
Gee, what a surprise !

That's usually true, why would the cop think differently.
He'll have his chance to prove it's not true if it goes to
court.
