As an AP, I look forward to some of the big event weekends here in Vegas....big fight weekends, super bowl weekend, holiday weekends. Many more players betting big, provides cover and allows us counters to not stand out as much. Most of these weekend, while obviously very crowded have a good feel to them, a festive feel. But this weekend has a very different feel to me. I just get a bad vibe. Feels like a powder keg ready to explode.

Between the big fight, with a Mexican participant and Mexican independence day, there is an extremely large Mexican heritage population, as expected. I hope my feelings aren't based in racial bias, but having been out on the strip for 9 hours Friday night, I really have an uneasy feeling. I plan to put in a long day today, but give up some of the benefits of the big night by exiting the strip area about the time the fight begins.

All you can do is be vigilant and stay as safe as possible. I can understand your feelings, though, if Mayweather wins in a very controversial way, a riot wouldn't shock me. Maybe even a riot if Alvarez wins in any way at all, truly devoted fans can do some crazy stuff!

Maybe keep an eye on that, and that could be a gauge of how careful you have to be. If Mayweather wins by unanimous decision with the scores not even close, KO or TKO, you probably have nothing to worry about. If Mayweather wins a controversial decision, or Alvarez wins at all, move with caution.

Be safe but most people do not want a riot or nonsensical behavior - hopefully the few that 'get off' on causing a ruckus will be overwhelmed by civilized patrons.

This isn't the first time fighters of different ethnic backgrounds have met.

What in particular gives you a "bad vibe?"

So far as a possible "riot:" were emotions to flare, it would be at the MGM Grand Garden Arena; just stay away from MGM if you are afraid.

Ain't no powderkeg, just another prize fight.

I don't know that I would use the word 'afraid'. My partner and I carry a decent sum of money on us and while we always try to be careful and minimize risk and injury. These 'big event' weekends provide extra opportunities, but that also comes with increased risk. Larger bets means you need more funds. These periods are also prime time for the thrives and scammers. So, I try to be extra careful and minimize risk. As un-scientific as it may be, part of that is just gut feeling and as I said, being out and playing 9 hours last night, I just get a different vibe than other big event weekend. My best opportunities always occur before and after the 'prime time' of just after the fight, so going with my gut feeling and avoiding that 'prime time' works for me. :-)

Sure, this fight will attract a lot of non-gambling riff-raff, the type that might opportunistically try to scam or rob, but not on the casino floor.

Any "risk" would be elsewhere, e.g. in a parking garage, isolated sidewalk, or even a rest room.

But yeah, I sometimes get a gut feeling, and I've learned not to ignore it.

Maybe something weird will happen.

I live far away from the strip, but when I went out for a run this morning, I kept about an extra pace clear of the landscapers.

I didn't get that feeling at all last night. In fact, I played at the same table as a group of Mexicans (who were big Alvarez supporters), and they had me laughing all night.

BUT...I also agree that if you do have a gut feeling in regards to this weekend, it's best not to ignore it. I get that feeling myself sometimes, and I never ignore it.

That was going to be my advice. Also, to quote Malory Archer, "All Hispanics look roguish."

I am just hoping for a great fight: in the ring.

As a long time fan of The Sweet Science, I can only bemoan the sorry state of professional boxing today.

Bah.

So, Floyd won.

Was there a riot going on?

We'll see, but I doubt it. The only controversial thing about that decision was one judge scoring it as a tie. There was no doubt that Mayweather was the better technical fighter, by a huge stretch. Every fight went to decision last night, I always like to look at fights and try to imagine who would have won if they'd have went until someone got KO'd, and I think Mayweather still would have won...but it would have been interesting.

I also think Matthysse (sp) would have won if that fight would have continued until someone was knocked out, I don't care if his left eye was swollen shut, he was throwing devastating punches right until the last. I know he got knocked down in the 11th, but he still looked like he was throwing harder punches in the end.

I saw that a commentator, Teddy Atlas, was dumbfounded that one judge scored it as a tie.

He was shocked, and livid.

Teddy felt that this sort of bad, incompetent judging was what was wrong with the fight game today.

While he's right, there's a lot more wrong than just incompetent, likely corrupt judges.

Having watched the local news this morning (Sunday), I didn't see mention of any specific problems related to the fight. (Just the normal Saturday night issues...lol).

The fight was apparently pretty lopsided, with a just decision. Trouble was more likely with a controversial decision in which one side felt it was stolen from them.

My partner and I spent most of the afternoon and evening on the strip taking advantage of fight night conditions, where many folks are betting bigger. This was actually the first time my max bet was over $1000. I placed that max bet probably 80 times throughout the day. :-). We also were able to do some other partner related things that we don't normally do, because they draw heat. The day resulted in strong EV, but unfortunately, that didn't translate into dollars, as we are ahead a combined $220 for the two days this weekend. I am hoping for one more day of the cover of these bigger bettors, today. Probably not quite as good, but we will see.
