What do you drink while gambling?

I usually go with Johnnie Walker Black with one ice cube because I know I can get it anywhere. I've had a few glasses of Macallan 12 but not all casinos serve it. Sometimes if it's late I'll order Spanish coffee with no whipped cream, and recently I've been into Bourbon so I might the casino's version of an Old-Fashioned when I'm in Vegas for G2E.

Beer or whiskey sour, depends on the mood I am in. Beer must be draft as I cannot do bottles.

Otherwise, water if feeling a bit dehydrated in the desert air, or not feeling the need to drink.

I won't have more than one-two while actively gambling, and typically have none at all.

If I do have a drink, though, Bombay Sapphire, neat.

I don't drink when I'm working, er, gambling. It saves the casinos a lot money because I can knock the bottom out of it when I get started. It's not because I mess the gambling up when I'm drinking. It's because once booze touches my lips I'm off work. At that point it's to hell with work. I'm headed to the bar where I can jawjack with the other ten fools on the stools, play the internet jukebox (classic rock & classic country), and see if there are any sweet young things around I can sexually harass, er, make a pass at.

The girl on the stool next to me at closing time:

"No I'm not going home with you."
"That's not a bad move, sweetheart, since I'm not the best performer when I got 4 beers and 23 shots in me."

I walked into That Bar, my home bar in downtown Great Falls, Montana. Kelly the day bartender/manager was about two minutes from having her shift completed.

"Kelly, give me a bottle of water before I have a drink. I need to rehydrate."

She grabbed a bottle of water, set it in front of me and said:

"Here you go Mr. 27 shots of V.O."
"What? You guys counted me down last night?"
"I have to count down all the drinks that were served the night before. You're the only customer that drinks V.O."

Tom, the night bartender walked behind the bar to take over.

"Kelly, I didn't drink all those shots. I bought some shots for other people."
"Oh, No!" Tom said. "You drank everyone one."
"Dammit, Tom. Now she's gonna think I'm a drunk."
"She already knows you're a drunk. Everyone one knows you're a drunk. You're the biggest damn drunk we've ever seen in these parts."
"Thanks for the tip, Tom."

I eventually broke my record. Now it's 35 shots.

I didn't know that non-alcoholic beverages count.

Black coffee at a casino with self-service.

Cappuccino in the parlors, usually French Vanilla, sometimes English Toffee.

When gambling, I usually start with a beer and then rum & cokes. Never order wine by the glass at the tables. You'll get some vinegar-tasting swill that was opened three months ago. As far as which beer, the selection is usually pretty meager. Sierra Nevada is a good one some of the classier places will have. Otherwise, I'll probably settle on Corona, which is the WORST Mexican beer.

I didn't know NA counted either. I'm a coffee junkie. If you see me on a machine you'll also see a cup of coffee sitting there. But all this talk about drinking is causing me to have a powerful hankering for a shot and a beer. I'm in Missoula so I guess I'm just gonna have to head up to the Ox (Oxford). It's a hard core alky bar. I don't like drinking in a mamby pamby bar. They try to cut you off after a few shots. Oxford here I come.

Dammit! I'm gonna have a hangover tomorrow. You guys are a bad influence.

I arrive at the casino well hydrated. That's the trick. On the rare occasion that I'm there long enough to need a beverage it is water. I tip the servers if they are attentive whether I order anything or not.

And what is a Martini but a cold glass of gin? I think Churchill said that.

I graduated to it, it used to be Bombay Sapphire on the rocks with a squeeze of lime, then it was just on the rocks and finally it was neat. I think that it was my regular drink for so long that the lime and ice just became noise.

At the blackjack table I drink nothing. Alcohol + card counting = too many errors for someone stupid like me.

Occasionally I will play low limit craps and drink Mic Ultra's.

If gambling at home, I opt for The Macallan 15-yr, or Beefeater & tonic.

Gambling on the golf course, it's always Bud Light- I can drink a thousand of those things.

The answer is a red bull vodka, for two reasons:

1. Keeps you up at night.

2. Not much better in life than waking up and having nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, and serotonin/dopamine mixing around in your brain. On most gambling trips, I spend the first hour waking up in front of quarter VP with a cigarette and vodka/red bull. I don't smoke on a regular basis so I get a full nicotine buzz.

White wine if I'm in the mood for something a bit lighter.
Black coffee with a shot of whiskey if I'm feeling a bit tired (besides, it's the only way their coffee is drinkable).

Usually if its after about noon I will go to beer, usually bud light or bud light lime, since its always available and easy to drink. I have, at other times partaken in a shot or 2 at the table (usually only if I am continually adding to my stack) or a redbull and vodka or something to that effect. In vegas, in the mornings I will usually lead off with a couple screwdrivers to ward off the hangover from the night before.

I love the IPA's and double IPA's. I am only a few hours outside Philly and the craft beer scene here is great. Almost every bar has the 90 minute on tap. Can you get any of the Weyerbacher or Yards beers out West? They are some of my go to beers here and in my opinion a must try brewery.

I can't stand the lager/light lager beer fare at most Vegas casinos, so I'll order Jack and Coke while playing. I'm right there with tringlomane, give me an IPA any day. I have gotten to the point where I'll just go buy a Sin City IPA for 5 or 6 bucks.

LOL, Blithering Idiot. It's what beer would taste like if it were whiskey. I'm not usually a fan of the very strong stuff, but there are a few I like, and that is one of them.

The craft beer explosion is amazing for us beer lovers. Even if you pick a "bad" one, it's really good, just "bad" compared to what you might have chosen instead, or simply not to your taste. SJY, for the Philly brews I'm partial to Victory. Noble Pils, Storm King, Hop Devil, each one of my favorites in that style. The Dogfish Head brews, I either love it or it's a drainpour. The IPAs are beautiful. Burton Baton might be my favorite beer. Chicory Stout, Indian Brown, excellent. But stuff like Midas Touch and Tweason'ale, the experiments... yuck.

Midas touch is delicious. Please send here instead of the drain next time.

My onpy complaint about craft brews is tye slow increase in strength. I like drinking a ordinary bitter 4% at times, but never seen such 'weak stuff' over here with same flavour as a good English ale. Maybe I have selective memory...
