I collect player's club cards. One day about two years ago I felt obligated to go into the Dotty's down near the M Resort and collect a club card. It was nearly empty. I filled out the paper work but the guy behind the counter (who looked surprised to have a customer who wanted a club card) told me that I would have to wait for headquarters to approve and then I would get a temporary card. After 20 minutes or so, they gave me my temporary card. In the mean time, I was playing Caveman Keno for a quarter. Around 15 minutes into the wait, I hit six out of seven numbers and won something like $70 or $80 and I had only put in a $20. So after I received my temporary card, I left and got the real one in the mail about a week or so later.

I've never been there since.

It's a very nice and sparkly card. I should start a daily club card thread.

I like that idea. Seriously, you should start a thread like that. I never sign up for cards anymore since I'm too lazy to carry them all around, yet I'm always curious about what each card looks like.

The best I found was 9/5 JOB but you have to play 100 coins to get FP royal. If you like keno they have high paytables on their U1 machines that display the payout. Dotty's has some unique promotions and decent bouncebacks but the VP is not.

They allow smoking, as no food (kitchens) are on premises. Just booze and slots. They compete with Rum Runner, "the office" slot parlors, PJ's, Village Pub, etc. Even the 7-11's and Speedy marts with slots. In this town I'm relieved we don't have slot parlors at children's day care centers and Urgent Care waiting rooms.

see This is Dotty's site, seriously.

They could allow smoking even if they had kitchens, which it appears they will be forced to do at some point. Also, not all Dotty's are smoking friendly. At minimum, their shared locations like Kmart are non smoking.

They have 16-10 deuces wild (99.73%). At the one closest to me on Sahara and Fort Apache they have it in a 10-play All Star game. At every other Dotty's I've seen it is just single-line. Points are worth 0.1% (0.15% from midnight to 6 AM). However, the main benefit is the mailers.

The smoke level in Dotty's is just awful. I should bring a respirator. I have to beg people to accept my autograph anywhere.

Smokers are there primary patrons. They are clearly not designed around any sort of social interaction. It is a solitary place where you to indulge in your addiction. To this extent, I think they are a good business. Nicotine is still legal, and harassing these people to no end is not fair to them.

Some of the Dotty's are pretty smoke free. The one at Blue Diamond and Decatur (that I used to go to) was pretty much smoke free. And if someone was smoking, you could always hide behind a barrier of plants. The Wizard is right, they do have 99.73% Deuces Wild at $0.50 and higher, with good mailers and benefits. Their drink selection is just about the best of any casino, with any high end liquor and lots of premium bottled drinks like Frappucino, Red Bull, etc. comped.

A smoker friend of mine says Dotty's has the cheapest prices on cigarettes in town. A lot of people come in only to buy them, and usually several packs at the same time. The Dotty's in the K-Mart by Buffalo and the Summerlin Pkwy is also smoke free, I would imagine in any K-Mart.

On their crappy web site, the locations are color-coded: red push-pins for smoking, purple for non-smoking. Counting roughly on the Vegas-area map, I see about 50 to 20 in favor of smoking. (The non-smoking locations are at Kmarts and Food 4 Less.)

That's a much more substantial commitment to smoke-free gaming than you'll find at any of the major casinos.

I thought that Cypriot Banking "Administrative Adjustment" to Account Balances only applied to accounts with more than 100,000 Euros on deposit and thus was not too different a category than our FDIC protections of a decade or so ago.

One thing not often mentioned is that its not unheard of for a Dotty's to open up a cash register, take out a twenty dollar bill, and just give it to someone whose known to be down on their luck. You don't get that elsewhere.

So the Dotty's place offers a good bargain to those in the area, its just for those who want their bargains in a "more solitary than sociable environment". Someone who wants to smoke and/or wants to gamble can go to Dottys and get fine stuff without the intrusive "social life" aspects of music and camaraderie of a pub or bar or locals casino.

That sounds so depressing though. :( If I am in Vegas, I still would rather play NSUD elsewhere. Are any of the other video poker games playable there Wiz? I'm fairly sure it's a similar environment in many Illinois bars/restaurants that bothered to get "video gaming terminals", except they are all non-smoking. :D But the one restaurant I tried in Illinois did offer 7/5 Super Aces with a 2000 for 5 coin royal (97.92%), better than I expected.

Yes. It sounds depressing to you ... and to many others. You and those others are the ones who would be going to bars, pubs and locals casinos, bumming cigarettes from gorgeous blondes, listening to the music, chatting up the cocktail waitress, chatting about the machine with the person at a neighboring machine, etc. That is the essence of niche marketing. To recognize the existence of a niche ... gamblers who want to gamble and mind their own business, buy and smoke their own cigarettes without comments from non-smokers OR other smokers, gamblers who are not there for music, broads or anything but their own amusement. It is a market segment that to you sounds depressing but if you happened to own a joint like that would you be depressed every time you went to the bank?

Probably because Dotty's are "restricted gaming" locations like bars and convenience stores.

I did play at Dotty's for a few months but the only way to make it competitive with the other casinos where I was playing was to get a lot of W2-G's to be entered in their special drawings.

I finally walked in to one of these places, and it exceeded my expectations. It was the Dotty's mentioned by Wizard, on West Sahara at Fort Apache.

Roughly 10 of the 15 seats were occupied, and everyone was either smoking, or preparing to resume smoking. The patrons looked no lower than middle-class, but at the vacant machines, the ashtrays were filled with butts smoked all the way down to the filter. So I don't know, maybe they have a forced busing program with a trailer park on Boulder Highway.

As for suggestions, it's close to perfect as is. Possibly they could enhance the atmosphere by keeping a small trash fire burning, but they'd need to monitor content to avoid disrupting the delicate staleness of the cigarette smoke.

Can you imagine renting a unit in a strip mall for your respectable business, and it's a former Dotty's? I don't think Lysol makes a product strong enough to clean that.

But there aren't many Dotty's closures. In fact they're adding an unrestricted casino, the Hacienda near Boulder City, and they've created a sophisticated new web site to promote the acquisition:

http://dottyshotelandcasino.com/index.html

I'm excited.
