I forget exactly which large vacant tract of land is the unborn ghost of the Echelon. Is it the one at the corner of Sahara Ave.? If so, it's completely surrounded by largely nothing and the dead ghost of the Sahara... Curiously that's not so bad, if the Sahara can be reborn as the SLS, or even as itself.
IMO, this could be the rebirth of the North end of the Strip, or a spectacular failure. Either way it should be interesting to watch.
Quote: kewljIt is the north end of the strip, but not Sahara. It is between fashion show mall and Circus Circus on the west side.
They key will be whether this will be enough of an incentive to create decent foot traffic on the strip North of the WynnCore. That kind of has been the unnofficial north end of the strip since about 2006 or 2007 now. How long will it take people to change their behavior?

The SDX stops at the Fashion Show Mall. Adding a stop just before makes no sense for an express bus. So if Fashion Show keeps the stop, the new hotel will scream like a damned soul, and viceversa. The Deuce could add a stop easily.
Crossing the street from the Wynncore wouldn't be any trouble. Expect most tourists to do so. If the new place is up to the quality standards of the Wynncore, then I'd expect some mutual foot traffic like there is between Caesars and Bellagio.

Building Wynn in 2005 cost $2.7 billion, and Genting plans to spend $4 billion building Resorts World. (Some estimates put the price tag at $7 billion.) I'm guessing it will be a lovely hotel.
To put that in perspective, converting old Sahara into opulent SLS Las Vegas cost $415 million and Ceasars plans to spend $223 million remodeling The Quad's crappy rooms.

I don't expect this hotel is one that really wants the bus stop.
Now he will again find himself slap bang in the middle of the revitalized northern end of the strip. It will certainly be good for him and mutually so for RWLV. I still wonder about SLSLV though. How will they make out. They are much closer to the Strat than what they are to the Wynn and proposed RWLV. I wonder if they will survive in a big way? I hope they do but I'm not sure. Also how will these new hotels spread the goodwill to the ailing Riviera (which I eblieve should either be closed or redone) and LVH?
Interesting times ahead.
Quote: tringlomane$223M for the Quad rooms? I'm surprised they are spending that much, they probably should have dropped a bit more on the casino; although, I like the new Quad overall. Bye Bye, my favorite cheap mid strip option. :(
Based on the reviews I've seen the Quad rooms desperately need it. Seriously go check out Expedia or one of them. I don't think I've ever seen so many 1 star reviews in my life.

I've stayed at the Quad 5 times. They do need it overall, but I just request the room I have deemed acceptable now, and usually get it. It's completely satisfactory for peanuts vs. other hotels.

The million dollar questions is whether Fountainbleu be a vacant disaster forever and ever, or will someone eventually buy it?
I agree with your skepticism of SLS. The expectation is that SLS will charge outlandishly high room rates, but surely the kind of people willing to blow $300 on a room will opt for a nicer neighborhood: Cosmopolitan, Nubo, Bellagio, et cetera. I know I would.

I just don't see it with the SLS either. If I was dropping 300 a night for a room I'd be staying with Steve.

I think Fontainbleccchhhh will be baught at some point as Ichan isn't in the business of holding on to gaming properties forever and a day. It will have to be a stellar deal to whomever considers it (like the Revel deal could never hope to be) and the economy would have to sufficiently have recovered that Vegas can handle another glut of hotel rooms.
I think a lot of that discussion will happen and depend on the glory of RWLV and to a lesser extent, SLS.

I've stayed in the Quad once. It reminded me of one of those rooms in the movies where guys snort coke and then commit suicide.
